May I have this dance
May I lead you across the floor
May I take your hand
And spin you around and round once more
May I hold you close
Before this evening is through
May I have this dance with you
He approached her with outstretched hand, booted footfalls silent on the cold stone floor. His bearing was regal but touched with an inner humility that only served to set him apart from all other men, a true son of Westernesse.
"My Lady, may I have this dance?"
She turned at the sound of his voice, smiling, eyes dancing in the light of a hundred torches, her face lighting up with joy and love which quite took his breath away, unaware that the same emotions were reflected on his own face. She did not respond with words but held out a slender hand which he took, leading her out onto the floor as the orchestra began playing its first strains. They stood close, mindful of propriety yet thrilling at the warmth and closeness of the other. He leaned down to whisper an observation in her ear, she laughed, her voice for a moment joining in the melody of the music. They danced as one, grace and strength combined in equal measure, one soul in two bodies.
Do you hear the music
Do you like the way they play our song
Do you know how much I love you?
Baby, I could hold you all night long
So close to heaven
My dreams have already come true
I'll treasure this moment
'Cause I'm making a memory with you
The music changed, they slowed to a stop, hands still clasped, breathing slightly strained. "The song," she whispered. "That we first danced to after you pledged yourself to me," he finished. They began dancing again, feeling that their love had just been strengthened by the mutual realization that in each other their greatest hopes and dreams were coming to pass. They exchanged no words, disclosing nothing, sharing everything. They would treasure this moment forever.
A/N
The idea for this "story" came while I was working on a project and "May I Have this Dance" came up on my playlist. I dropped everything and this is what came of it.
I imagined this scene to be at the celebration of their troth-plighting in Edoras. I assume there would be dances in the celebrations after the fall of Sauron so Faramir is referring to their first dance at the celebration in Minas Tirith after the victory at Cormallen.
