AN: Thanks for checking out my story!
DISCLAIMER: Lily and James are fictional characters created by J.K. Rowling herself. I do not own them.
James looked up in disbelief as he watched his transfiguration book sail across the room and land gently in her lap.
Lily's eyes danced playfully and she laughed lightly at James' expression.
"I didn't know how else to get your attention plus the look on your face is priceless, Potter" she explained before laughing harder.
A look of determination slowly replaced the look of shock on his face as he pushed himself up off the couch and made his way toward the red headed book thief.
"I'm going to need that back, you know," he told her cheekily as he closed the distance between them.
"Not before you hear me out about the prefect's schedule," she replied seriously as she gripped the book's worn binding in her left hand. "Besides, I doubt you even need this book, you're brilliant at Transfiguration," she stated smiling up at him.
He stopped and put his hands on the back of the desk chair that separated them. Lily sat perched on one of the desks in the Head's common room with her feet on the seat of the chair.
"Did you just pay me a compliment or are you buttering me up?" he inquired with a mischievous smirk.
Lily laughed, "Oh, you would know if I was buttering you up, I would have done far better than that." James chuckled at her reply.
"Sorry, Evans, your charms don't work on me, so any attempt at getting me to indulge your idea for the prefects' schedule will have to wait until after my Transfiguration essay is complete." He paused to smile pleasantly at her before streaching his hand out, palm up, "my book please."
"No can do!" she stated as she put the book behind her back, "…and what makes you think my plan was to charm you into listening to me, anyway?"
"It's not?" he inquired quirking his brow.
She playfully slapped his arm with her right hand and started to say his name when her breath caught in her throat. He had grabbed hold of her wrist with his left hand.
"I will restrain you in order to get my book," he said as he locked eyes with her and leaned forward, "if need be."
Several seconds passed and neither moved. She noticed when he looked from her eyes to her lips and back and she could feel butterflies erupt in her stomach as she watched him.
Lily smirked, "Is that a threat or a challenge?"
He quirked his brow and she watched his mischievous smirk spread across his face once more. She tried to twist her wrist out of his grasp but he would not relinquish his hold.
"Lily, Lily, Lily…" he tisked as he slowly began to move the chair, the only barrier between the two of them, out of his way.
"James…" she asked cautiously, "what are you doing?..."
Lily held the book tight in her left hand and kept her other arm straight out away from her body in an attempt to keep James away from her. James took a step closer brushing his thighs against her knees as he lowered her wrist and held it down on the desk next to her right thigh. He smiled at her, keeping eye contact as he slowly leaned forward so he could reach around her to retrieve his book.
Lily's breath caught in her throat as James leaned toward her and he stopped to give her a curious look when he heard. It was only then that he realized there were only a handful of inches separating them and he suddenly found his book of little interest.
They stared at one another for a moment before James asked in a whisper, "Am I too close?"
"No" she answered breathily, without thinking.
"Good" he replied softly as he eliminated the space between them and pressed his lips to hers.
Lily reciprocated the light kiss, closing her eyes to enjoy the feel of his lips on hers. When they broke apart, James rested his forehead against hers and smiled down at the blushing red head.
"Well…" She said grinning up at James, "This really changes things."
