„Can I have a blanket? I am freezing," Kagome asked hesitantly.

Sesshomaru stood up from the couch, grabbing the old woolen blanket from a nearby cabinet and kneeled down in front of the armchair his wife was sitting in. He carefully draped it around her small body. He then brushed a lock of silver-grey hair out of her face.

"I remember the day I bought this blanket. It was a sunny afternoon in autumn and I was pregnant with our first son," she explained. Her eyes were slightly unfocused, relishing the distant memory.

"This blanket was a small present from your brother, which he brought from his first trip to Peru," Sesshomaru replied calmly.

"It was?"

"Hn."

Kagome laughed at this, waving her left hand in a flippant way like she always did when her memory wasn't as accurate as his. Sesshomaru caressed her wrinkled skin with his fingers, retracing some of the deeper wrinkles.

"I've become old," her voice was filled with sadness.

"You have become beautiful, even more than before," he replied softly.

Tentatively her fingers touched the smooth skin of his face. Tears filled her eyes and she failed at suppressing a small sob. Sesshomaru rose a bit and brought himself to eyelevel with her. He pressed a short kiss on her lips and then started to kiss away the tears on her cheeks that were now falling openly.

It was not until Kagome had calmed down that he stood up and headed towards the kitchen door. Before he entered, he turned around gazing at his wife, who had indeed grown old. He knew what path lay ahead of them, but he was eternally thankful for all the wonderful years they had shared. Therefore, he would stay at her side until the very end.

"I love you."
