He is laying down. When had that happened?

He blinks up at the dark sky, but sees nothing but blurry colors and blinding flashes accompanied with the harsh sounds of clashing metal and dying screams.

His whole body feels hot and throbbed. He tries to move his fingers, but he can't. He couldn't even feel his fingers.

He turns his head and blinks repeatedly in an attempt to clear his vision. There was nothing. A pool of blood where his arm was supposed to be. He turns the other way. Again. Nothing.

He tries to remember who… ah, it was Uchiha.

He swallows a moan when something blue and yellow blocks his view of the clouds. He hears choked whimpering from somewhere above him before a hand is placed on his chest and cool sensation churns his stomach.

"Shikamaru?"

It's Ino.

She's crying.

The world spins when he is hit with a sudden, unwanted realization.

He's going to die.

He opens his mouth, wanting to comfort Ino. He wants to tell her that it's okay. That he has wounds she won't be able to heal, but it's okay.

He can't.

A sob escapes his lips instead. He feels the very breath being stolen from his lungs as fear washes over him like a crushing wave. A dark force that knows no mercy.

He's going to die.

"No." The word is weak, but it is heard. Ino gasps and the hand on his chest grabs the fabric of his torn shirt. Her tears fall on his face.

He struggles with himself, fighting for air. He coughs and panics when he feels warm blood run down his chin.

Something lifts his head up. A larger hand than the one on his chest.

"Is he going to be alright? Please, tell me he's going to be alright!"

Chouji.

His head is rested on his best friend's lap, but he cannot calm down. The colors are beginning to fade along with the nauseatingly warm throbbing. He begins to feel cold.

He's going to die.

"I'm… not…. ready. I… don't…" He chokes. His eyes are searching for Ino. He tries to tell her to save him. Please, save him. He doesn't want to die.

She's saying somehing, but he can't make out the words. The sounds are disappearing until only the screams are left.

"No!" He chokes, coughing violently. And suddenly there is pain. His throat feels torn and all the things he wants to say are lost.

He's blind now. The screams have gone too. He hears his own pained gasps. His heartbeat hurts. It beats against bruised ribs. It'll stop soon.

He's going to die.

He will go to a place where there is no war. A place where violence will never belong. A place with green grass and clear rivers.

A place with no clouds.
