"Hey! How come he gets to sit down?" Hansel protested, spotting Ezra sitting in the shade, drinking a cool glass of Piper's sweet tea, and dangling his Stetson from a booted foot.

"Don't bother askin' him," Vin warned.

"I'm the Captain here!" Jack declared. "I'll find out what's going on!" He and Will put their lumber down and marched over to Ezra. "Why aren't ye helping us sort through an' clear th' debris from th' storm?" Jack demanded.

"Ah may be a Pirate," Ezra drawled smoothly, "but Ah do not engage in menial labor."

"Ye'll do what I tell ye to!"

"No, Ah shall not, sir, for you are not mah Captain."

"No," Salem said, joining the others with his tail swishing, "but I'm telling you, Ezra. Get off your duff and help somebody."

Ezra pouted. "Must Ah? Can we not play a game of chance ovah it?"

"No. Now get to work."

Ezra sighed, stood, and picked up a single stick. "Yes, sir."

Salem's eyebrows rose at the tiny twig. "You're on Logan's team, and you'll do what he says."

As the men burst out laughing and Wolverine stomped forward to take charge, Ezra stood with his mouth agape. He took one look at Logan's stern face and requested humbly, "Can we not talk about this?"

"No," Salem announced, "and next time don't make me tell you to get to work." He stalked off to see to the rest of his people.

"Ezra," Wolverine growled and grinned at the gambler's jump. "See that tree over there?"

Ezra gulped, nodded, and fought down the urge to point out that it was only the biggest tree in the area!

"I'm gonna chop it up, an' yer gonna haul the pieces 'round th' back o' th' house where th' bonfire's gonna be later."

Ezra sighed, wishing that he was anywhere but there.
