Summary:Tyler had never seen his Captain's face.

Set during novel 7.

Written for 'Give me a sentence and I'll add five sentences to them'. I can totally count, heh.

I'm assuming the chains of darkness are transparent since Tyler did seem to be able to see through them.

Face Revealed

Tyler had never seen his Captain's face. Not like this.

He had thought... When Captain had taken off the broach and dropped his Hell Knight disguise, a tightness had eased from Tyler's stomach.

There had been rumours Captain was scarred underneath, the Storm Knight platoon taking bets on where exactly it was and what had caused it, and Tyler had made sure the Hell Knight platoon agreed to not confirm or deny any of the rumours they heard. Captain had trusted them with his face, even if it was to make sure no-one would trick them by pretending to be him.

He'd thought that was all there was to it. There were small things he'd noticed about his Captain, but what Knight-Captain didn't have quirks? Compared to the rest of them, Captain spending a long time in the toilet was nothing!

But now... Tied up as he was, Tyler could only stare at his Captain, not wearing his Hell Knight uniform, almost unrecognisable from the man Tyler had known. His skin was ashen in the way only a dead body could be, black marks twisted over it in stark contrast and making them stand out even more. The three wings flared out behind him made Captain look far larger than he used to be - he wasn't as bad as Knight-Captain Cloud, but he still tended to fade into the background when he was a crowd. Unless he was in the middle of a spar.

And there was nothing left of Captain's eyes, black flames wisping out from them instead.

But his voice was something Tyler could place anywhere, and Captain had recognised him too.

That was what mattered. Captain was still there, no matter what he looked like. He was still Tyler's Captain.

And once Knight-Captain Sun had done the ceremony, they could all go back to the Church of the God of Light.
