Popcorn

Disclaimer: I don't own anything but the plot.

A/N: Hope you like my story of how popcorn brought 2 people together. LOL!

Lily Evans sat on the couch in the Heads Common Room, watching the flames of the fire, and eating her favorite snack, popcorn. It was almost midnight and Lily was almost sure her fellow Head, James Potter, was already in bed. Lily sighed and leaned back as the soft red couch engulfed her body. Lily soon realized that she was wrong.

No longer than five minutes later, James Potter walked through the portrait hole. 'Just stay still and he won't notice you.' Lily told herself as she tried to lean back farther into the couch. Little did she know that her plan would utterly fail.

"Hey Lily." James said from a few feet away. "Curfew was two hours ago. Where've you been?" Lily asked popping another piece of popcorn into her mouth. "Worried about me?" he asked surprised. "No, just wondering." Lily replied. James walked to the back of the couch and leaned on his arms. "I was just, um, out flying and, um, lost track of time." He said while his eyes darted around the room. "Liar." Lily said, still not taking her eyes from the fire.

"What? No it's not." James said defending his story. "Then why don't you have your broom?" Lily asked smiling, still staring into the orange flickering depths. "How did you…" James stuttered, "You aren't even looking at me." "I know a lot of things without looking, James." Lily said, finally turning he head around to meet his hazel eyes.

James smiled a small smile at Lily's answer and walked around the couch and sat down next to her. "What are you eating?" he asked her. "Popcorn, do you want some?" she asked holding the bowl toward him. "What's popcorn?" James asked looking at the bowl funny. "It's stuff Muggle's eat. It's really addictive actually. Try it." Lily said.

James took a few pieces from the bowl and put it in his mouth. "Mmm, that is good." He said after he swallowed it. "Told you." Lily said grinning widely. "So, are you going to tell me what you were really doing or what?" Lily asked him. "It was nothing really," James started hiding his face from Lily's view. "Sirius and I were just…out." "Oh really," Lily said looking at James, "planning pranks no doubt?"

Lily smiled even though she disapproved of James and Sirius' pranks. "Yeah." James whispered. "It's alright James," Lily said, resting her hand on his shoulder. James looked up into her emerald eyes. "I know how much it makes you happy to see the Slytherins with pink hair." Lily laughed at the thought of Severus Snape's greasy hair a hot pink color.

"Thanks for not screaming at me, Lily." James said wrapping his arms around Lily's frail body. "Why would I scream? I think it would be funny to see Snape's hair pink." Lily replied. James automatically let her go and bowed in front of her. "Well then," James said in a deep voice, "tomorrow, fair maiden, your request will be granted." "Why thank you." Lily replied.

After that, James and Lily sat on the couch joking around and eating popcorn for an hour. They even ended up having a popcorn fight. You can kind of imagine how that went. Him throwing popcorn at her, her throwing popcorn back, him eating popcorn out of her hair afterwards.

"Great now you've gone and gotten me addicted." James laughed after the bowl had become empty. He looked towards Lily who was sitting and smiling very widely. "You're going to make more, right?" he asked with a straight face. Lily laughed, stood up, and grabbed his hand. "Only if you'll help me." She said. "Of course," James said standing up. "But the least I can do is take you to the kitchen." He said picking her up into his arms and carrying her to the Heads Kitchen where they had stored many snacks at the beginning of the year.

And of course the cycle starts all over again, beginning with popcorn. Who'd have thought the delicious buttery snack could bring two people together?
