The Walk

Disclaimer: I don't own these characters. Property of Tite Kubo, blah blah blah you know the drill…,

A 'What if' after 406.

1.

By the time he came to, everyone was starting to recover from whatever injuries they received. He was sore and bruised; thankfully, nothing was broken and he would be fine. His main concern was for the body that was still unconscious and with weak reisatsu that laid upon the rocks closeby. He immediately flashed forward to where she laid.

The armor she wore was almost gone; her arm and leg looked intact, but he knew that she could be in the deepest agony and not tell him so he wouldn't fuss. As he picked up her arm, he noticed that it was too loose.

Not a good sign.

There was a pulse, but faint. He began to worry.

"Stay with me", he pleaded softly as he began to use kido to heal her, "Just hang on."

2.

She was dreaming.

She was ten again, playing with her brothers and sisters when she noticed the little blonde haired boy watching her. The kid just started showing up out of the blue one day. She had assumed that perhaps he was the child of a servant but no one knew where he had come from. She walked over.

"Hi" she gave a friendly smile. "do you want to play with us?"

He stared at her for a second.

"Oh" She felt guilty. Perhaps the boy was mute. "You can't speak huh?"

"I can speak" the boy spoke up.

"Wanna play?"

"I know a better place where we can play" the boy smiled. "are you a noble?"

She nodded.

"I'm Yoruichi" she introduced herself. "What's your name?"

The blonde boy blushed. "It's Kisuke."

And thus a friendship was born that day.

They were inseparable from the day on, from childhood to when they first became lovers right before she left the academy. She didn't like being tied to one place, but he was her home, her reason for always coming back. If one was hurt, the other always came immediately, like a beacon.

Then everything faded. She heard someone calling her….

And then the dream ended.

She woke up feeling like someone basically threw her against a rock. Which…is what happened. She sat up and winced; her left arm was broken and she felt a huge lump on the back of her head.

"I knew you'd be okay" he grinned.

"My arm's still broke. And I feel like shit."

"I'm fine, thanks" He laughed. She felt guilty for being snappish. She hugged him hard, as he embraced her in return.

"I guess we're both still alive." she smiled at him. "For a minute there, I thought this was it for me."

"We're both too stubborn to die, I suppose", He extended his arm, "Come on. I'll carry you bridal style if you'd like. Or would you like me to carry you on my back".

"Do it" She made a fist, "and Aizen will be the least of your problems."

They both got up, her solo.

"I'm sorry that you got hurt" He looked into her golden eyes. "I'm truly sorry that the armor wasn't good enough."

"Tch…" she shrugged. "We're both alive. That's what matters now. So what's the next step?"

"The dangai's broken" He explained. "The second seal should work. We just need Kurosaki, which I've already made arrangements for."

She nodded. "I'll see what I can do here."

He then leaned down and kissed her softly. She blushed.

"I'm truly grateful that you're alive." He touched her head to his. "If you were dead…I'd be lost."

"Kisuke…" she stammered. She turned away again, not wanting for him to see her sentimental. "Just go already. Now isn't exactly the time to get all romantic on me."

"All righty then. Here goes nothing."

And like that, he was gone.

Fini.

Another 'IF I was Kubo this would happen' thought turned to paper. I've been really getting into UraYoru lately too.
