"You got this Percy"
I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you - Taylor Swift
Percy Jackson sat on the beach at camp half blood, skipping rocks onto his Father's realm. He was replaying one of his not so heroic moments in his mind…
It was twilight, his favorite time of day, and him and Annabeth were walking together in the woods. Trying to get away from some of the craziness that was taking place at the camp. She had been talking about her latest architectural project, but he didn't really care about what she was saying. Or if she said anything at all for that matter; her being there was enough for him.
"Kelp blocking your brain again?" she said, looking at him funny.
"What?" he said, clearly missing something.
"Why do you keep doing that?" she asked, not believing his confusion.
"Doing what?"
"Hitting your hand against mine?"
"I—I … I" Come on Percy, this is it. Be charming, you got this. "I—I wanna hold your hand." He blurted, his cheeks going red as Apollo's chariot. Good one, he thought. Annabeth just stood there, frowning. He lasted a solid three very tense seconds before bolting.
He'd been too embarrassed to see her since. Letting out a deep sigh, he skipped another rock. Why am I so AWKWARD! He thought, replaying the scene again. How could he ever face her?
"Hey Percy." He froze, debating which direction would be the fastest escape. He started to stand, "Please don't run away again." She said, sounding miraculously as nervous as he was. He stopped and turned toward her, blushing just a little.
"Hey." He said, staring intently into the sand.
"Percy?" She said softly.
"Yea?" Startled by the way she said his name, he looked up. Silence; instead she just grabbed his hand, interlocking her fingers with his. He grinned at her, leaning in for a hug.
"You're stupid seaweed brain, you know that? Real stupid." She said, matching his grin and hug. He just shrugged, still grinning like an idiot. A few moments passed, in which each enjoyed their own glory.
"You know what?" Percy smiled even wider.
"What?" she said through a giddy giggle.
"I like holding your hand."
"You brain really is made from coral," Annabeth sighed, fake disappointed. Percy frowned.
"What did I do now?"
"It's what you didn't do." She said, laying it on thick by turning around and letting out a long sigh.
"What?" he said worried and clearly fooled. She let go of hand and began to walk away, shaking her head. "Annabeth wait!" he said running after her. He put his hand on her shoulder and she turned, grinning. He leaned in and pressed his lips to hers, finally getting it.
"You really are great." He whispered.
"I know."
"Know it all." He muttered jokingly.
"For a hero you seem to know nothing at all." She remarked.
"Opposites do attract." He said, taking her hand again.
"Prove it." She said, leaning in for another kiss.
"Gladly." He began to lean toward her when suddenly someone yelled, making him jump back.
"PERCY AND ANNABETH, SITTING IN A TREE!" Clarisse yelled, snickering as a crowd gathered around them. "K-I-S-S-I-N-G!"
"You know what?" Percy whispered, looking at her devilishly.
"What?" She said, her eyes bright.
"Eff it." And he kissed her, in front of the whole camp, he kissed her. The crowd cheered, and Percy was yet again, victorious. But this time, on the battlefield of love.
