Wrote this in the last fifteen minutes. It is Now 12:00 here. Happy New Years everybody!

Matthew clutched his glass tightly and smiled. Family and friends were gathered around him in the cold dark night, the sky lit up with strobe lights and spotlights. He sipped at his glass and listened as the shouted conversations suddenly changed to cheers and then became synchronized as they counted down.

The crowd erupted into loud cheers as they welcomed the new year. Matthew smiled at the familiar antics of his loved ones. He could see Francis and Arthur spinning by in each other's arms. Alfred was jumping up and down with his arms held above his head. Denmark hugged Norway and the shorter man allowed it grudgingly. Off to the side Berwald and Tino shared a quiet kiss. Iceland and Hong Kong simply held each other's hand as they stared up at the fireworks lighting up the sky.

Netherlands and Cuba had their arms around each other's shoulders, both grinning. Antonio grabbed Lovino and spun him around while Feliciano was sitting on Ludwig's shoulders. Feliks threw himself at Toris and kissed the startled man on the lips. Seychelles pulled Elizabeta away from Roderich long enough to hug her around the waist before she went off to find someone else. Other representations of the nations were celebrating in their own individual ways. Matthew looked around and spotted a familiar head of silver hair weaving through the crowd towards him. Matthew greeted Gilbert with a smile as they other reached him.

"Hey Gil."

"Hey Matt. I brought you something." The albino took the now empty cup from Matthew's hand and handed him a mug of hot chocolate. Matthew smiled and sipped the warm beverage, his hands gladly wrapping around the cup.

"You put maple in it?" Matthew asked, licking his lips. Gilbert nodded, then leaned in and kissed him softly. When the two pulled away from each other a minute later, Gilbert licked his lips while Matthew blushed. Gilbert rested his forehead against Matthew's and looked into his eyes.

"Happy New Year, Matthew." Matthew put his arms around the other and held him tight.

'I'm sure it will be, as long as you're here to share it with me,' Matthew thought. He smiled and whispered into the other's ear.

"Happy New Year, Gilbert."
