Lin grumbled as she made her way through the dense forest. She knew where Kohaku's river was, on the spirit world side, but she could not believe how hard it was to get there.
"Ow!" She hissed with pain as she stumbled over a tree root. She couldn't believe she had agreed to this. All for what? Her freedom?
Resentment built up inside of her for Kalan. Sen was her friend, and although she was clumsy sometimes, Lin knew that turning her over to the owner of the bathhouse would only bring pain and misery. Not just to her, but to Kohaku as well.
"Sen?" She called, hoping her friend would hear her. If anything, she could warn her about Kalan's intentions. Her freedom wasn't worth turning her best friend over to the river spirit. She shuddered at the thought of him.
Receiving no response, Lin continued to stumble through the underbrush. Every now and then she would unintentionally whack herself with a branch, or she would trip, and with each injury, Lin grumbled more and more about Kalan.
Meanwhile, far above the forest and the river, Chihiro was holding onto Haku for dear life. Although she could fly herself, she hadn't had time to make the transition before he'd whisked her off into the sky.
"Where are we going?" She asked, gripping the fur on his neck tightly.
Haku merely let out a growl, and Chihiro sighed. Great. No answer. Well, she thought, it would definitely prove to be a surprise.
"Are we going to be back in time for me to make dinner?" She asked, unhappy that he was exerting himself. She worried that he would cause himself more injury, and she was not looking forward to nursing him back to health again, considering he hadn't been an easy patient.
This time he didn't answer her. Chihiro frowned. Wherever they were going, it seemed, he wasn't about to tell her. And she had no idea when they'd be back, either, which was less comforting.
