Brother

Before Diana left, Gabe would go into his mother's room while she was sleeping and watch her. Sometimes, if he knew she had had a hard day or if he was feeling particularly caring, he'd curl up next to her, running his hands through her hair and whispering comforting words to her.

Now Diana's gone. But Gabe isn't. Gabe lurks around the empty hallways until one day he decides to sneak into Natalie's room.

His sister is so much like Diana when she sleeps that it's incredible. They both toss and turn uncontrollably, obviously in distress. The similarities make his eyes widen and his head start spinning.

He's never liked Natalie, but suddenly, he needs to be closer to her. He has this idea that…that maybe being closer to her will bring him closer to Diana.

So he walks to the edge of the bed and squeezes in next to her, just like he used to do with his mother. Natalie instantly calms down.

Gabe is so shocked with this that he starts mumbling into her ear, just like he used to with Diana. "It's all right. You're okay. I…I l-love you."

Still asleep, Natalie unknowingly scoots herself closer to her brother, rests her head on his chest. She whispers a single word.

"Gabe."
