Escape

All he wants is a mother.

All she wants is an escape.

It makes perfect sense in Gabe's head—she trades her life of sorrow and anger and people who don't understand her for a life of happiness and calmness and her son. And he gets his mom back.

But those people…they make it so hard for them! They can't accept that Diana would be happier with Gabe. They keep telling her to hold on, that things will get better. Gabe knows they won't, and he wants to scream it at them. Things won't get better. Things will never get better, not until he and Diana are completely reunited.

He thought Diana knew that same thing.

Until one day, he notices a gleam of hope in her eye—one that used to only appear when he was around her. But today, she's looking towards the future without him there.

Gabe can't believe it. They'd had the same dreams, and now his own mother is abandoning him.

He just doesn't understand.

All he wants is a mother.

All she wants is a future without him.
