I am still working on the two stories I have promised to my dedicated readers. Writer's block is not fun. This little drabble came from a challenge I was doing where I had to write a paragraph about any name that was given to me. It was supposed to be made-up names, but for some reason, most of them were Harry Potter-related. I hope you enjoy reading, and please review.

Disclaimer: I do not own Hedwig, Eeylops Owl Emporium, or the odd black-haired, green-eyed boy.

Hedwig was hatched in Eeylops Owl Emporium. When she came out of her shell, no one knew she was going to grow up to be so incredibly beautiful. She wasn't white. Her feathers stuck together, and were a color one could only describe as grey. And not a pretty grey. An unappealing dusty grey. As the days passed, she grew bigger. Her feathers grew longer. She started to move her wings. The grey became splotched with a sort of pearl color. Soon she looked off-white. After a while, she was a beautiful snowy white, flecked with the grey she was hatched with. But even after she grew to full size and had better coloring, no one wanted her. She tried hooting as loud as she could when customers came in, so they would notice her. When that didn't work, she tried staying silent, so customers would notice how quiet she was compared to the other owls. Then she tried various other tricks, all designed to get the customers to want her. But no one ever asked about her. No one ever took her out of her cage. She wanted to fly. She wanted to learn the sky, to breathe fresh air. Most of all, though, she wanted a family. All the other owls got someone to love them, to take care of them. She didn't have anyone. Until that odd black-haired, green-eyed boy walked through the door. Maybe opposites attract, because that day, the darkest color and the lightest color joined forces. She got her family, and unknowingly, she gave one to him.
