When you've been best friends with a person for five years you start to know them better than their parents do. When you've been best friends with a person for over ten years, like they have been, you start to them better than they know themselves, and sometimes they don't even realize it. By now, Dave Karofsky is an open book to Azimio, he knows everything.
Azimio knows in the second grade that Dave wanted to be a firefighter like his father, in fact Dave wanted to be exactly like his father. He knows this is why they play hockey, and football. He knows that when Max Karofsky died when they were in the fifth grade Dave didn't come back to school for nearly two weeks because he kept refusing to eat and couldn't stop crying. He knows Dave never really got past that, so he took it out on the other kids at school.
Azimio know that something was up in the sixth grade during 'sex education' when Dave asks a seemingly innocent question about certain types of dreams. He knows that since the seventh grade Dave remains unaware that his best friend knows where he keeps the revealing magazines. He know why they started throwing Kurt Hummel into the trash. He know where the slushie facials started. He knows when Dave starts singling out the Hummel kid for all the insults. He knows when Dave bails on practice.
He has known Dave Karofsky for twelve years. He knows everything.
And he doesn't say anything. He doesn't do anything. Because Karofsky isn't a man of many words, because he would be dead in ten seconds tops if he did, because Dave's been there for him its the least he can do to let his best friend figure it out himself.
Well, that's what he tells himself.
Really, its because he doesn't know how to handle the fact his best friend is gay, he doesn't know how to handle the best friend who can't stand himself. He doesn't want to deal with it.
Still the side effects of being friends for twelve years works both ways, and he suspects that Dave knows his best friend knows something. Dave avoids him. He is slowly being forced to do something. So when he sees Karofsky pass him like he's not there he pushes the girl flirting with him away and follows towards the cement stairs leading down. He opens his mouth to say something, but stops completely where he's out when he sees that Dave's been stopped by Hummel and a boy who obviously doesn't belong. The words 'You kissed me' aren't very loud, but he hears them. When Dave walks off, nothing resolved, Azimio is well aware that Dave is going to skip lunch to go punch something. He knows that Dave is getting scared, because Dave sees the vision of making his father proud falling apart, and is nearly reaching a breaking point.
But all Azimio can feel right now is relief. That he's isn't the only one who knows, the only one who can do something.
Because when you know a person better than they know themselves, you know this could be the beginning of the end.
I should really be working on my 'Emmerdale' fic and posting it, but I've got Kurt/Karofsky stuck in my head. I have two more one-shots in my head then I will go back to 'Emmerdale' and work on "Every Other Day' while posting a Kurt/Karofsky multi chap I have in my head as well.
And I just wanted to thank everyone for the response on "Simple Question" I can't even begin to describe how happy I was that it was enjoyed. And I hope you enjoy this one as well.
I don't own Glee.
