Chapter 26: Turning of the Tides

"Wow this is so cool!" Zakuro beamed excitedly, as her eyes scanned the large assortment of fish tanks.

"I figured you kids would love it." Takuma smiled as he led the way through the aquarium.

"How'd you get tickets to this late viewing?" Kano asked curiously.

"The owner happens to be an acquaintance of Sara-sama." Takuma answered honestly. "Despite him being human, the owner is aware of vampires and often has late night openings for vampires who prefer coming at night."

"That's quite nice of him." Kazuki replied as he watched a school of clown fish swim past his line of vision.

"He's a man that believes in the co-existence between humans and vampires."

"Is that why he so readily accepted Shirabuki-sama?" Senri questioned as he eyed Takuma from the corner of his eye.

"Well that and because Sara-sama is an important investor for this aquarium. This aquarium wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the help of Sara-sama."

"So he was bought by money?"

"Shiki!" Rima huffed annoyingly at the auburn-haired boy beside her.

Senri regarded Rima with a scowl. "Why reprimand me? I'm not wagging my tail to the enemy."

Rima couldn't get the chance to say any more as Senri stormed away toward the large aquatic animal zone.

"Please forgive him Takuma, he's just a bit under the weather." Rima tired to reason.

"Its okay Rima, you don't need to make excuses for him. I know why he's mad at me." Takuma admitted as sat down on a nearby bench in front a large tank full of fresh seawater fish. "He doesn't like me being with Sara-sama. He no doubt thinks I'm a traitor to Kaname."

"I don't think you are a traitor." Rima answered. "I'm sure you have your reasons as to why you are with her. None of us amongst Kaname's circle think any less of you for being with Shirabuki-sama. You are our friend and we trust you."

That made Takuma smile. "Thank you Rima-chan."

"You're welcome." Rima replied. "Now all we need is for that stubborn idiot to apologize and then we can go back to enjoying this lovely outing."

"Good luck with that." The young trio answered in unison.

"Don't worry, I can be very convincing when I need to be." Rima said with a mischievous smile.

"Don't be to hard on him." Takuma pleaded.

"Can't make any promises, you know how he can be."

"Well that's true."

Rima muffled a chuckle at Takuma's response before heading off in the direction the red-haired vampire ran off to.

Takuma stared off in the direction the two vampires disappeared to and sighed.

"Don't look so down uncle Takuma." Kano reassured. "Rima was right when she said no one thinks of you as a traitor."

"What makes you so sure?"

The trio looked at Takuma and answered. "We're from the future so we know."

"That's right…stupid question."

"Not only that, but nee-san can tell when a person is lying." Kazuki pointed out, his head nodding in Zakuro's direction.

"You can?" Takuma questioned surprisingly.

"Every pureblood is born with one special ability that differs from other purebloods. Mine just so happens to be lie detection. Kazuki can teleport and Kano can read minds."

"Lie detection, teleportation, and mind reading. Those are some interesting abilities there." Takuma said amazed. "But I thought all purebloods had the ability to read minds?"

"That's just what we want others to think." Zakuro admitted. "Aside from the one special power unique to different purebloods, all purebloods are born with the same powers."

"Immortality and resurrection. Familiar manipulation. Telekinesis. Regeneration/healing. Enhanced strength/speed. Power absorption. Mind control such as being able to control multiple vampires, erasing their memories, and possessing their bodies. The ability to turn vampires into humans and humans into vampires." Kazuki listed each ability one by one as he remembered them.

"If purebloods have basically all the same powers, why is it that there is only one that is different for each pureblood?"

The trio shrugged their shoulders at the question directed to them by the blonde noble.

"That's something even our father couldn't figure out." Kano responded matter of fact. "That's why purebloods tend to keep their special ability a secret from other purebloods. The reason most purebloods are killed by other purebloods is that they possess a power they want. Power absorption makes it easy for us to steal other pureblood powers."

"Then why tell me?" Takuma had to ask.

The trio looked at each other before looking at Takuma. "Because we trust you."

"That's why you shouldn't think such sad thoughts. If we trust you, then so does Senri-kun." Kazuki insisted with a smile.

"Then why do you think he is mad at me?"

Zakuro shook her head at Takuma's childish question. "He's just jealous."

Takuma raised a curious eyebrow at that. "Jealous?"

"He probably thinks you're with her because you love her or something."

"Why would he think that?"

"Because he likes you." The twins teased.

Takuma found himself blushing. "W-What!"

"Honestly I find it hard to believe you are Tamaki's father." Zakuro huffed annoyingly.

"Tamaki?"

Zakuro looked at Takuma before answering. "Yours and Senri's son…and my fiancé."

"WHAT!" Takuma screeched in surprise much to the enjoyment of the twins who were laughing between themselves. "H-How? We are both males!"

"Thank our dear father for that. He was able to alter the gender-switch spell he originally created for pureblood use only and made it possible to work for noble class vampires. Though unfortunately as of right now it can only be used for noble vampires who are direct descendants of purebloods."

"Meaning that Senri and Maria are so far the only noble vampires able to use it." The twins added with a smile.

"I-I see…" Takuma started then fell silent.

Did Senri really have those kinds of feelings for him? The idea seemed bizarre, but if what Zakuro said was true about him and Senri having a son together then is had to be true. Takuma found himself smiling. The blonde haired noble had bottled up this love he had for the auburn-haired vampire because he was convinced that Senri was in love with Rima. Watching the two had always been painful, yet Takuma never wanted to over step his bounds so he kept his feelings to himself as a means to keep the friendship he had with Senri. Yet now it was different, now he knew he didn't need to hold his feelings anymore because they were now mutual.

"Then go find him." Kano said startling Takuma from his thoughts. Kano smirked and pointed to his head. "I can read your thoughts?"

"Would you stop?" Kazuki said flicking his brother on the forehead. "You're embarrassing him."

"I think it's already too late for that." Kano said gesturing to Takuma whose blush had deepened.

Zakuro rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Please ignore this idiot and go find Senri and tell him how you feel. I'm sure he will be happy to know that you love him too."

Takuma opened his mouth to say something but decided against it. Because he knew without saying it that they were aware of what he wanted to say.

The trio watched in silence as Takuma headed in the direction Senri went.

"Do you think Hitoshi would be upset that we intervened again?" Kazuki asked his siblings nervously.

"Probably." Kano answered. "I mean if he knew we were slightly to blame for what happened at the night class party, he would ki-"

"Shh…" Zakuro hushed her brother by placing her hand over his mouth. Zakuro looked to her side toward the black spider beside her left foot. Removing her hand from her brother's mouth, Zakuro glared at the insect with utter hatred in her garnet colored eyes. "Excuse us Sara-sama, but this is a private conversation between siblings to which you are not welcomed."

With that, Zakuro crushed the spider with the heel of her shoe.

"I figured she would have one or two of her familiars on Takuma." Kano replied as he eyed the now dead spider.

"But I thought that's what we wanted." Kazuki spoke in a soft voice.

"Yes but there are some conversations she is not welcomed to hear." Zakuro snarled to no one in particular.

"Your just bitter because she out witted us." Kano retorted back at his sister.

Zakuro narrowed her eyes at her brother before speaking. "Are you not concerned in the slightest on how she was able to turn the tables on us?"

"Of course I'm concerned, but we still don't know what drug she put in his wine glass and why we can't detect its substance."

"Well whatever was put in his drink was able to utilize the inhibitor we injected him with. Yet even so, that doesn't explain what is preventing him from changing back."

"I agree with Zakuro. The inhibitor we used to weaken Zero's sense so his powers can remain controlled shouldn't have prevented him from changing back." Kazuki chimed in. "Zero doesn't know how strong he is yet. So with that amount of power seeping through could have endangered his life and those around him."

"But it seems our humanitarian act was able to provide the best opening for the enemy to strike and the frustrating part of it all is how she could've known."

"Maybe someone told her." Kano said after a moment.

"But who?" Zakuro asked. "It was something only the three of us was aware of."

"And that is what's the oddest thing of all." Kano admitted. "You would have detected any deceit between me or Kazuki and I would have been able to read if you had any secret plans hidden within your head."

"But we would never hurt mother Kano." Kazuki protested.

Kano smiled at his twin. "I know, I was just stating the obvious."

"Well someone had to have known. Why else would Sara-sama have the opportunity?" Zakuro retorted back, frustration clearly in her voice. "The drug she used was able to counter-act against the inhibitor. However, there is just no way Sara-sama has access to such advance research in this era."

"Maybe there was an uninvited guest at the party who provided it to her?"

Zakuro and Kano both turned to Kazuki at the same time. "What do you mean?"

"I didn't think much of it at the time since it only happened for a moment, but after the two of you went back inside the moon dorms, I remained outside for a little bit and while I sat on the steps I sensed for a moment the aura of another vampire."

"What the hell Kazuki!" Kano and Zakuro shouted at the same time. "How come you didn't say anything?"

"Because I wasn't sure of it at the time. Plus that vampire had the same aura as us." Kazuki answered meekly.

"Same aura as us?"

Kazuki nodded. "But like I said, it only showed up for a moment then it was gone. So I really can't be too sure if it really did have the same aura as us or not."

Kano looked from his brother Kazuki to his sister. "Who do you think that was? Do you think that was another pureblood?"

Zakuro shook her head slowly. "I don't know, but regardless if that was a vampire or a pureblood, what I'm afraid of is that we may have another player working behind the scenes and the scary part is that we have no idea what their plan is or what they are willing to do to accomplish it."

Kano sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Looks like this game just got more difficult."

"I couldn't agree more."
