Prologue
It started when I was four.
I was at the beach with my parents, Montauk. My parents had a rental cabin there, and we'd been going there ever since I was born, kind of a family tradition. Nothing unusual ever happened there, sure the water was usually too cold to swim in, and the cabin was a bit run down, but that was exactly the way I liked it.
It had happened at the beach. There I was, little four-year-old me, playing by myself with my little pink bucket and shovel on the beach, completely minding my own business when I heard a loud rumbling coming from the water and glanced up, only to witness something way out of my line of understanding. The water began to bubble, and a large, scaly head appeared out of the water, its eyes were red and menacing, its mouth full of sharp, carnivorous teeth that were aimed at me. My eyes widened, my mouth dropped open in shock.
"Mommy! A Dragon!" I called towards the beach house. Dragon was the only thing my 4 year-old mind was able to understand. But instead of a reply from my mom, all I got was a snarl from the dragon. I stood there, unable to move as the dragon loomed over me. I opened my mouth the scream, but a huge man, around 20 feet tall and wearing Greek armor (although I didn't know that at the time) carrying a huge trident simple appeared out of the waves. He stepped on the beach, pointing his trident at the sea dragon. Instinctively I closed my eyes and curled up in a ball, clutching my knees. There was a loud snarl, followed by a loud noise, and then it was quiet.
I peeked through my hands at the dragon, but it was gone, instead, the giant man was glancing down at me, watching me. I uncovered my hands and stared at him, but he turned without a word and simply disappeared back into the water.
I turned and raced towards the cabin. "Mommy! A huge man just came out of the water and beated the dragon!"
-0-
Ever since that morning on Montauk beach, I could see monsters. Dragons with multiple heads, giants with only one eye, creatures with huge teeth or scaly bodies or whatever. My parents hadn't believed me since that day I came running into that beach house babbling about giant men and dragons from the water. They would just smiled worriedly at my and say, "that's nice dear." But I knew I wasn't crazy, I knew those things were real.
When my parents died in a plane crash when I was five, I stopped talking about the monsters I saw. If my parents hadn't believed me, who else would?
I tried to forget about it, but the older I got the worse it got, at first the monsters were blurry, but as I reached high school they were so clear I wondered how I or anyone else had never noticed before. I saw them everywhere, but I got smarter too. I never told anyone else about what I saw. And so, it became my own personal little secret.
That is, until I met him. He changed everything, proved to me that I wasn't crazy, only special.
The first time I met him I was a simple little girl. The next time I met him, I was anything but a simple girl.
I've got plenty of this story written, it's just in pieces, i've got random parts from different chapters thrown all over so i have some organizing to do.
and yes, I am going to finish my other stories, I've just been busy. you'd be surprised how time consuming it is to go to work and work on college stuff.
please review =)
