Author's Note: This story was written in response to a challenge at trueblood_las on Livejournal. The challenge was "road trip."

Sookie had started her trip on her own. She knew it wasn't exactly wise to respond to the invitation the vampire queen of Louisiana had sent to her, at least not alone. She really should have brought some protection, but for all she knew, the protection she would normally call upon was just as dangerous as the Queen herself, maybe even more so.

So Sookie drove away from her house without a word to Bill or Eric. After all, if Sophie-Anne wanted her dead, she didn't have to summon her to New Orleans to get the job done. And driving with either vampire had seemed like a bad idea in too many ways to count.

Her feelings apparently weren't taken into account though, since Bill opened her door and climbed in about forty minutes into the drive. It was a pity she hadn't thought to lock her doors, but she was driving at sixty miles an hour when he did so. The lock probably wouldn't have given him much trouble anyway. He tried to talk her out of going, but she very pointedly ignored him. It wasn't like she could rescind his invitation to her car, but she sure wished she could.

She still hadn't spoken a word to him nearly half an hour later, when she pulled into the parking lot of a McDonald's so she could use their restroom. Bill hovered protectively all the way to the ladies room door, then waited just outside for her to emerge. It irritated her to no end, and she was really considering trying to find some silver chain so she could tie him up and leave him somewhere. Death at the hands of Sophie-Anne seemed kind in comparison to another four hours in a car with him.

When they returned to her little yellow car, Eric Northman was very casually sitting in the passenger seat, looking like he was trying very hard to belong there. He grinned at Sookie, who was now clutching her hands into fists and fuming that these damn vampires just couldn't seem to leave her alone.

Bill growled and attempted to haul Eric out of the front seat, but the viking would not be moved; he actually seemed amused at the younger vampire's attempt. Sookie completely ignored the scene they were making and walked around to the driver's side, starting the car and beginning to drive away. Bill had to scramble into the back seat just to stay with them.

Though she believed she had made it quite clear that she wasn't speaking to either one of them, both vampires were perfectly comfortable speaking to her and each other. More accurately, Bill was pleading with her, Eric was flirting with her, and they were bickering with each other.

"Eric, the least you could do is let me have the front seat. I was here first!" Bill said, trying his best to stretch out his legs in the tiny back seat.

"I would say age before beauty, Bill, but either way, I'd still be in the front," Eric replied, sending a toe-curling smile in Sookie's direction. "Wouldn't you agree, Sookie?"

She almost smiled, which at least told her that she was slightly more angry with Bill than she was with Eric. At least Eric never pretended to be anything he wasn't. But she still didn't answer.

"You're being ridiculous. Sookie loves me. Nothing you have can compete with that." He looked at her. "Sookie, would you please tell Eric that his presence isn't needed here?"

"Lorena loved you too. I'm sure you'd be welcome to ride in her car, were she not dead. In fact, I'm sure you'd still be more welcome there than here." Once again, he turned his attention to Sookie. "You know, if you'd let me remove him, we could find much more interesting uses for your back seat."

Sookie ground her teeth together and prayed for the sun to rise early. That way she wouldn't have to kill her passengers herself. The sun would do it for her.
