"...Who is Zero?"
The last question caught all three by surprise, staring at the silver haired boy who stared back at them with genuinely confused lilac orbs. It took them a while to recover from the shock.
"What do you mean?" Yuki was the first to regain her voice, trying to stop herself from breaking down again as the sight of her crying seemed to scare Zero (something she never thought was possible) more, "You are Zero, of course"
"I am?" the young man looked troubled now, not to mention he looked...small. Not physically of course, but there was something about him right now that made him look so...vulnerable. It was rather unsettling for them, seeing the usual scornful vampire hunter so...helpless.
"Zero, what can you remember?" Cross placed a gentle hand on his shoulder in his fatherly disposition, trying to calm him and sensing the slow build of panic in the younger.
The silver haired boy looked at him then frowned, eyebrows knitted as if he was trying to think, then his eyes widened as those usually hatred filled orbs filled with fear before their very eyes. "I...I can't...I don't…" he gasped, clutching his head tightly. Tears then filled his eyes, leaving the three beside him at loss for words once more.
Yuki immediately hugged him, unable to take it anymore "It's okay Zero, please don't cry…" she said, trying to calm down the shaking boy in her arms "It's going to be alright"
Kaname Kuran could only stare at the scene in front of him, he wasn't used to seeing Kiryuu like this. The silver haired boy he knew was grumpy and stubborn, a pain in his side, arrogant and never gets tired to voice out his intention of getting rid of the pureblood. But this Kiryuu was crying, afraid...heck, he looked like a lost child. He didn't know the hunter was capable of showing such emotions and it just...struck him.
A strange feeling welled up inside him as he watched the two prefects. In hindsight he should be feeling jealous over Kiryuu right about now, having Yuki so close to him, but he couldn't find that emotion in his chest. All that was there was concern, pure worry he never knew he was able to feel towards the ex-human.
Zero was whispering, but Kaname heard it, thanks to his superior hearing...he could hear the tremble with each word that left the boy's lips… "I...I can't remember...anything…" with that, the boy's eyes slid out of focus...and the prefect lost consciousness once more.
Yuki felt the other go limp in her arms, brown eyes widening in alarm "Zero? Oh no! Wake up Zero! Wake up!" she sobbed in fear that she lost her younger brother completely this time. "Zero-"
"Yuki, calm down...he's alright. Zero just fainted is all" Kaien Cross told her kindly, hands on her back to calm down the brunette.
At that, she stared up at her father, who nodded decisively. That calmed down the prefect a bit, for the first time proud to say she was brought up by the Headmaster. Following his calm example, she took a deep breath. "He needs help. We need to-"
"Bring him to the infirmary so he can be properly checked and rest" the chairman finished her sentence, smiling kindly "Where you can take care of him until he wakes up, okay?"
The brunette nodded, eyes fixed on the unconscious silverette in her arms "Of course, I'm his 'nee-chan' after all!"

A few hours later, Zero had been tucked away into one of the comfy beds of Cross Academy's infirmary, sleeping deeply while Yuki, who had been watching over him since the nurse allowed, had also fallen asleep in her vigil of watching over the other, using her arm as pillow. Both children have been so fast asleep that none of them woke when the headmaster came in, draping a blanket over his sleeping daughter and fixing a worried gaze over his son. He bent down to give both a kiss on top of their heads before closing the lights and going back to his office.
But if that was the father figure of Kaien Cross he had morphed into the serious headmaster by the time he entered his quarters, where Kaname Kuran was waiting for him.
The pureblood turned as the man entered. "Will Kiryuu be alright?" he asked, before he could stop himself. Physically, he knew the boy was going to recover, his mental state however, was another question and he knew Kaien had the same thoughts.
Kaien sighed softly before staring at him "He's alive, and I have to thank you for that Kaname-kun...I am eternally grateful, and I am sure Yuki is too"
Kaname nodded simply, he wasn't sure why those words irritated him a bit. It sounded like he only saved Kiryuu for Yuki's sake. But he only did save the hunter for his precious girl, right? Then why did it almost struck a nerve in him? Forcing irrelevant thoughts to the back of his mind, he spoke again. "His memory loss, however…"
"Is probably the result of his fall...we might know more when Zero wakes up...right now I'm just grateful he's alive" he said softly, the weight of the earlier situation just getting to him. And despite how tall he looked just a few minutes ago, now he just looked tired.
The pureblood himself was exhausted, both of them wanted nothing more than to retire for the evening and rest, but they knew they couldn't as there was still the matter of finding out what had transpired earlier that caused their current situation.
"Chairman Cross-" the brunette began.
"I know Zero Kaname-kun" Cross said suddenly, cutting him off with a soft voice, his eyes spoke volumes. "He may act like he hates everything around him, but Yuki and I have spent years around him to know how he really feels. Despite the always angry look on his face, Zero is actually happy lately, I know he wouldn't do something like...that" he could not bring himself to say the words.
Kaname decided to listen to him, after all, he also believed that despite what the students might've seen, it was just so unlike Kiryuu to actually commit something as ridiculous as…suicide. He may not be that close to the hunter to actually believe he was anything other than furious, but if there was something he knew about Zero Kiryuu, it was that the boy wasn't a coward.
After all, he had the gall to actually try and stab the pureblood with a butter knife the very first time they met.
"I believe you Chairman" he replied without hesitation "Kiryuu-kun is not stupid, he may be stubborn but I believe he is rational. I also do not think he would do something so...unwise" it took him a second to realize he was actually complimenting his sworn enemy, yet Kaname didn't find the words foreign on his tongue, as if he always had those those about Kiryuu.
A genuine smiled dawned on the blond man's face, his shoulders visibly relaxing with the knowledge that the pureblood agrees with him on this matter. "Thank you, Kaname-kun…" the man paused "I will look into this personally, and make sure we get to the bottom of this"
"I understand headmaster. Seiren" he called out, knowing she was simply lurking in the shadows. A second later the violet eyed vampire appeared before them, bowing before her lord.
"Kaname-sama" she said, waiting for his order.
"I want you to help Headmaster Cross with his investigation, and tell me if you need additional assistance" the brunette ordered, looking directly at the silent girl.
"Yes, Kaname-sama"
"I appreciate your help Kaname-kun…"
"Of course, if there's anything else I can help with…"
"Well, there is still Zero…" Cross hesitated, after all it was for a fact that Kaname and Zero hated each other. Even if the pureblood helped him earlier, he had no actual obligation to continue helping the injured hunter.
"I'll help him in whatever way I can" the brunette found himself committing "After all, it'd be too much for Yuki to handle alone" he said, trying to convince himself of the same words.
The man stared at him for a while before smiling at the vampire "Thank you Kaname-kun…I entrust Zero to you…"

Why is it so dark?
It feels so...empty…
Has it always been so peaceful?
Why am I here?
Who...am I?

Lilac eyes opened slowly, taking a while to register his surroundings. He could see the sun's rays from the window close to his bed, telling him it was already morning. How long had he been sleeping? A slight throb had him reaching for his head, noticing the neatly placed bandage there. He looked down and realized he wasn't alone, the onee-chan from yesterday was there holding his other hand. He frowned, did she know him?...Why was she crying anyway? He couldn't tell… but he could only guess it was because of him.
Why? He had no idea either...he had woken up with everything in his mind a complete blank. And now matter how much he tried to think, he just couldn't remember anything. The feeling left him in a state of panic and dread, and it was the soft murmur of the girl beside him (What was her name again?) that calmed him down again, soothing, protective, like a kind older sister who would do anything to save him from the monsters under his bed. "It's okay Zero...Don't be scared...onee-chan's here…"
Zero...is that...me?...he stared at the brunette girl, she called him by that name earlier too so it was probably safe to say it was his name...but how come she knew it when he doesn't? He sighed, all the thinking was making his head hurt again.
He was about to lie back down to rest, but after a while, he couldn't go back to slumber and he decided to get up, stretching slightly and careful not to wake up the brunette girl fast asleep besides his bed. He could tell she was very tired and he didn't want to interrupt her sleep.
Slipping into the shoes he found besides his bed he walked out of the room, looking out the long corridor. There was no one around and he actually preferred it that way. Zero easily made his way through the maze-like structures of what he assumed was a large building. Weird, he didn't really remember this place, but maybe it was his instincts guiding him, that he was able to make it outside that easily.
His eyes wandered around for a while, staring at the beautiful green scenery before him, he had a feeling he had always loved them, but for some reason he was also expecting to see something that would irritate him…strange. He walked and walked until he saw a lake, jaw dropping slightly at the marvellously clear water, and absolutely delicious wind around the place, Zero believed he just found a special place.
Instantly relaxing at the serene view before him, the silver haired boy sat himself down by a nearby tree. He wasn't quite sure if he had been here before, but the way his body instantly loosen up told him it probably wasn't his first time in this place.
This place looks so peaceful...but a little lonely...did I spend a lot time here?
Zero had more questions, but the tranquil feel of the place was starting to lull him back to sleep.
With that, he closed his eyes, smiling softly.
How peaceful…

Kaname made his way down from the moon dorms early that morning, despite having gotten only a few hours of sleep he needed to go down to the Chairman's office to deliver some papers, which was supposed to be last evening but in the light of what has happened made him completely forgot, and he only finished them this morning.
Luckily for him it was already class hours for the Day class students, he didn't need worry about being seen by any human because he was feeling rather tired to use his vampiric speed. The man wasn't in his office, but he figured there was no harm leaving the documents on his desk. He was about to go back to his room to finally crash into bed when he saw something that made him stop.
Zero Kiryuu.
The boy was by the lake close to the moon dorms, leaning against a tree, he was still wearing his hospital gown and the rubber shoes he was wearing last night. He was sleeping, quite deeply he might add, or perhaps it was because of his current situation that he didn't even stir when the pureblood approached. He was sure if it was the usual Zero Kiryuu the prefect would've woken up in no time and would be wasting no time shoving the Bloody Rose in his face.
But this Kiryuu wasn't doing that, he was just…sleeping. And even more curious was, he was actually smiling. The pureblood almost couldn't believe it, but there it was, Kiryuu's smile… and he had to admit, it suited the hunter's gentle features.
Why haven't I seen him smiling like that before?
He wondered if he should wake the silver haired boy up, since judging by his state of clothes he most certainly didn't tell anyone where he was going, and would probably worry Yuki well out her mind if she wakes up and finds the male prefect missing, which is something he definitely didn't want.
But somehow, the brunette couldn't find it in himself to disturb the boy's slumber...because he didn't want that smile gone from the hunter's lips…
Wait...what did I just say?
Before Kaname could actually dwell on his thoughts, he found himself staring into familiar lilac orbs. A flash of recognition in them had his own brown-red eyes widening as the younger male spoke.
"You're-"
