Adalet – Prologue
Harry barely held in his groan as he read over the potion that Snape was making them brew today. The potions that seemed like they should be easy almost never were. This one only listed five ingredients and took thirty to forty minutes to make. If he was lucky he wouldn't blow up his cauldron.
Heritage Potion
Prep time - 10-20 minutes
Brew time - 20 minutes
2 cups water
1 cup diced Bloodroot
1/4 cup slivered Wiggentree bark
3 teaspoons of powdered Unicorn horn
3 drops of blood
Bring your water to a boil and let it boil for ten minutes.
Add bloodroot stir clockwise five times.
Reduce heat to a simmer and add the Wiggentree bark. Stir counter-clockwise seven times.
Remove potion from heat and let cool for five minutes.
Once the potion is cool add the unicorn horn. Stir clockwise three times. Give one quick counter-clockwise stir.
When the potion is needed just add blood.
Before he started to do anything Harry cleaned his work area and casted a strong anti-tampering spell. Harry then reached forward and grabbed the Bloodroot and stared to slowly and carefully dice it; one wrong cut and his potion wouldn't brew correctly. When the Bloodroot was fully diced he placed it to the side and pulled the Wiggentree bark closer. The only thing Harry hated more than dicing something was cutting something into slivers; he often managed to nick a finger or two. At least Unicorn horn could be bought in powder form.
When the last sliver was cut Harry lit the fire under his cauldron and stared the water boiling. He set a timer for ten minutes and began cleaning up. As he cleaned he turned to Hermonie and asked, "Hey, what dose does this potion do?"
"It's a potion that when you add three drops of blood to it, it will tell you who your parents are. It's mostly used to determine who an orphan is if no one claims the child," Hermione replied, never taking her eyes off of what she was doing. "Oh, and Harry, if you don't start paying attention in class I'll box your ears again."
"I am paying attention. In fact, I'm almost done with my potion."
"Whatever. Now shut up and get to work," Hermonie said with a slight sneer.
'What the hell. I just told her that I'm almost done and she tells me to shut up and get to work. That's not something she would normally say. Maybe she's just. . .'
Harry's thoughts were interrupted by his timer going off. Turning back to his potion Harry focused on finishing it.
Harry had just finished bottling the potion when Snape stood and said, "Everyone who has finished their potion is to line up and wait to be called back after you write your name on a piece of paper and place it next to your potion. Those who didn't finish will all have detention from seven until ten tonight; with Filtch"
'What the hell, I've been waiting here for more than two hours and the last person left about half an hour ago. He's doing this to punish me for finishing my potion correctly the first time,' Harry thought as he paced back and forth in the corridor outside of Snape's classroom. 'I don't think he hates me. Why would he have saved me so many times if he hated me?'
'Why does Albus insist on having the students test this goddamed potion when he knows I can just tell if it was brewed correctly. I know why. He insists because he knows that it'll break my heart even more to see Lily's name next to James's over Harry's potion. Might as well get this over with.' Then with a heavy sigh, Severus called Harry into the room.
"Well, Potter, it would seem that you finally made a potion correctly the first time without Miss. Granger's help. What are you waiting for? You need to put three drops of blood into the potion. Let me know when you're done." Severus then went into his office, slamming the door behind him.
'Well, that was different.' Harry thought as he picked up the knife and pricked his finger. Letting three drops of blood fall into the potion Harry's jaw dropped when he saw the three names floating above his potion. Closing his eyes for a minute, Harry silently prayed for a different result as he opened his eyes. When he saw the same three names he decided he had made a mistake he called out, "Professor Snape, sir, I think I messed up when I made my potion!"
