Hanna Marin checked her reflection in the refrigerator door that stood in the kitchen. She smiled proudly. Perfect, like always. She focused her attention on the figure that was standing behind her. She scrubbed the reflection off with her finger, hoping that it was just a stain, but no luck. The "stain" was real. A hand reached for the handle, pulling out the door.
"You know, people don't usually march around in the kitchen draped in only a towel," Hanna remarked, stepping back to look at the man. It was Darren Wilden, the sheriff of Rosewood police and the man who also happened to be Hanna's mom's boyfriend. Or rather, friend with benefits.
"They do when they have abs like this," Darren scoffed, rummaging through the fridge. He took a coup of eggs and a bottle of mayonnaise before setting them down on the counter. Hanna licked her glossy lips. She always felt uncomfortable when Darren talked to her like a friend or anything other than an officer.
"Please. I've seen better abs than that. Don't flatter yourself, Wilden," Hanna shot back, still observing his body.
"Oh, is that why you keep staring at me?" Darren teased, giving her a wink. Hanna scoffed, shaking her head. She always felt as if Darren was, God forbid, flirting with her. But then she remembered that he was just a cop who was trying to get information out of her for his investigation.
"Please. I've seen better. Much better. Like Sean's." Hanna smirked, pleased with her comeback. She hoped that he didn't take it as flirting back.
"Sean's? no offense, but he has as much of abs as I do a jellyroll," Darren huskily laughed, taking a swig of orange juice straight from the carton.
"Well, Sean has me. And we all know how much of an honor that is,:" Hanna joked, throwing her hair over her shoulder.
"Isn't it?" he murmured softly, running a finger through her hair. His expression grew soft and pleading.
She grabbed his hand and he twisted their fingers together. She looked up at him longingly, her eyes hungry. He stared down at her with a gentle expression, both of them breathless. They stared at each other for a moment with locked eyes before Hanna stepped forward, giving a small mischievous smile.
"Well, you know, officer-" Hanna began before they both heard a door slam. Their fingers slipped apart from each other quicker than time. Hanna readjusted her hair as Wilden retired his towel.
"Hey honey, hey Darren. I forgot my keys at home," Ashley Marin, Hanna's mom, explained, grabbing the chain of keys off the counter. She looked at them strangely as they stood, awkwardly silent.
"Hanna and I were just talking about breakfast. Want some?" Darren finally spoke, glancing over at a still quiet Hanna.
"No, I'm fine. I've got to run. Bye, sweetie." Ashley gave Darren a quick kiss as Hanna made her way up the stairs. She looked down at them, staring at Darren.
Nothing happened, she thought.
Absolutely nothing.
