Afraid of the Light
Cezille07
A/N: This started out as a sonnet (complete with iambic pentameter, so you'll notice 10 or 11 syllables per line), but their dialogues, just in my opinion, became too sweet to compress into just 14 lines. :D NOT SLASH, though. ;)
Disclaimer: Perry and Doofenshmirtz do not belong to me. I wish they were mine, though. I mean, really mine. WAHAHAHA! ;D
Perry:
What fleeting thump hast crossed thy wretched heart?
And sings of worthy praise this morning bright?
'Ere sits a lazy chance for me to start
To break the fragile workings of your plight.
Yet how can I begin if now I see
A pain that tears behind your dark blue eyes
This one time shalt I listen without me
Holding back on reason for your demise.
Doofenshmirtz:
What shame this time can merit sympathy?
Which by the way from you I don't expect
Let's make this clear, I was a boy of three
And darkness is just one fear I reflect.
Under the coldest and bleakest of stars
My hungered soul prayed, depending if loved
Or hated was I during course of the war
Between parent and child, the unwanted and shoved,
That light came sooner or never at all.
How subtly this magic betrayed all truth
When every next morning the sunshine still falls
Beholding the punishment for my youth.
Then Father was up, for sure earlier, hours
Before he could notice my slumber yet
And the whip, and the words, left deeper scars
Than anything I deserved to regret.
Don't you understand? It's this morning I curse!
It's morning foreboding tomorrow will hurt
The morning unclothes every weakness of verse
In a shield of clarity too alert.
And so I have created...the Sunlight
Away-inator! To end the cycle
Of night and day, or of fright and dismay
And to calm me for this eternal night.
Perry:
A silly whim, I once think, and again
And I think, too much, you won't understand,
Much less let go of this unhealthy plan
That spells for the sun its untimely end.
But how can the sweetest of children admire
an evil to wound its most wounded years?
How can that from which Earth draws life inspire
A true reason to admit why I'm here...?
Light, color, and life, beauty, faith in display
Sight to feel, not just see, light of energy strong;
Light of rainbows, promises that won't fade
Binds prism-thin wonders where we all belong.
Light? Why ever be afraid of the light?
Doofenshmirtz:
We...can belong?
Perry:
Yes.
Doofenshmirtz:
Then I am not strong.
Light means—
Perry:
Me! I am light, and my light, then, is you!
Forget that the past that only disowned you
Remembers not much of worth to enfold you.
Our light means darkness isn't real to you.
Doofenshmirtz:
...Then the scream of a nightmare lies.
In guarded peace then shall I rest tonight.
And I know when I look into your eyes
I never need be afraid of the light.
