Yellow
"Hey, Cloud!"
The blond soldier looked up at the wide grin of Zack Fair, and stifled a sigh. When his friend is in this kind of mood, there was no way to curb his enthusiasm and all you could do is to ride it out. "Yeah, Zack?"
"I finally figured out why you're my best friend in the whole wide world!"
Cloud sighed again. "Because I'm the only one stupid enough to bear with you?"
Zack gave a mock moan of pain before giving Cloud a noogie. "Aw, don't be like that! Come on! You know you want to know the answer!"
"Fine! Why, pray tell, am I your best friend?"
"Because my favorite color's yellow!" Zack announced triumphantly, and then looked at Cloud expectantly, as though waiting for a prize for his award-winning statement.
Instead, all he got was a stupefied look. "I beg pardon?"
"Seriously!" Zack gave Cloud a look, as though he was disappointed why his best friend couldn't connect a color with the state of their friendship. "I have this theory. Wanna hear it?"
"Do I have a choice?" Cloud groaned.
"Nope! Anyway, I think that people choose their best friends because of their hair colors! I asked Rude, and he said his favorite color's red, so that's why Reno is his best friend, and I asked Reno, and he said he doesn't have a favorite color, so that's why Rude's his best friend!"
"… So what you're saying is, Reno doesn't have a favorite color so he chose a bald guy to be his best friend."
"Yep!" Zack gave Cloud a big grin, proud that his friend was able to catch on his idea really quickly.
"I think you've been hit in the head too many times by Angeal."
"Oh, come on! You know my head's tougher than that!" Zack chirped, knocking on his head for emphasis. "I know! I'll prove my theory's correct! I've thought of a way to prove if my theory's correct."
A look of fear crossed Cloud's eyes. "No, Zack! I won't ask General Sephiroth what his favorite color is!"
Zack laughed. "Of course I'm not going to ask you to do that, squirt! Although I think your fear of Seph is a good blackmail material." Cloud tried to land a mock punch at him, which he evaded easily. He laughed again. "Relax! Anyway, proving it is simpler than letting Seph talk. What's your favorite color?"
"…"
"Come on, Cloud! Don't be a stick in the mud."
"Not telling."
"Pleeease?"
"Not even if you begged."
"What's in a color, anyway?" Zack wheedled. Seeing Cloud's set expression, he decided to change to a different tactic. "If you don't tell me, I'll tell the other guys you still sleep with a chocobo plush toy!"
"You wouldn't!"
"Try me."
Cloud sighed again. "Fine, you win."
Zack sighed too, but happily. "So what's your favorite color?"
"It's…"
"Yes?"
"… Black."
"I knew it!" Zack crowed. "My theory's right! Woohoo! Wait 'til I tell Angeal!"
As he danced away, Cloud shook his head. Maybe he should have said "purple" instead.
