Naruto – The New Trainer
Scared of Ships
-x-
Naruto stared at his Pokedex as he took in the data that was before him on the small screen or more specifically the amount of Pokémon that he had caught so far as a Pokémon trainer, he wasn't sure what to make of it.

Rayquaza looked at the piece of paper that had all this information written onto it with a bored look, wondering just why Naruto had to waste his time with all of this.
"What are you doing?" Rayquaza asked the blond with a strange look over his features. Naruto just remained staring at the Pokedex, before he turned to the piece of paper that he had been writing on to make sure that the information that he had written down was correct.
"I'm busy thinking of ways to make my Pokémon stronger." Naruto confessed simply, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Thinking of strategies that I could use regarding anyone that I might end up having to face off against, I need to think of this to keep myself focused, otherwise I will just end up getting cocky and making a stupid mistake."
"Like the scouting ahead for Surge when we watched him take apart 3 trainers, including Ash?" Rayquaza knew what Naruto was implying, but was wondering just how seriously that the blond was taking this.
"Of course, but I need to know pretty much everything that I can find out about my Pokémon, what type of moves effect them in what way, what food can make them grow healthier better than others. It's not like I can learn this straight away." Naruto confessed his plans, causing Rayquaza to blink in surprise. He really had not been expecting such thoughts coming from Naruto, especially after his success that he had been enjoying. Still, it was nice to know that the blond was taking this more seriously than Ash was at times, not that he could blame the boy considering his age. Speaking of the boy...
"Are we not going to be heading towards the docks with the rest of the group?" Rayquaza asked Naruto, who twitched slightly when he heard the word docks.
"No." Naruto was nice and blunt about this, there was something about the idea of going towards the docks that made Rayquaza think that Naruto might actually have a... phobia of something to do with something in the docks.
"Any reason why?" Rayquaza asked the blond, who turned towards the Legendary Dragon Pokémon with a look of terror.
"We are not going anywhere near those ships. They are nothing more than death traps." Naruto told his companion. Now, considering that there were ships back when Naruto was still a shinobi during the 4th Great Ninja War, this may be a bit of a surprise that he had a fear of ships. However, it was merely due to the sheer size of the ships that scared the living daylights out of him, he saw them as nothing more than metal death-traps that he could be killed by, which was perfectly understandable when you consider what Naruto's career had been. Rayquaza took out a telescope, and sighed almost as soon as he looked towards the docks.
"The kids got tricked into going onto the St. Anne by Team Rocket. James happens to be a really good cross-dresser." Rayquaza told Naruto, who blinked, before taking the telescope for himself... and quite promptly paled at the sight of what ship that they group of three were going on.
"Fuck that, I'd rather get lost for weeks than go on that monstrosity." Naruto was nice and blunt when he announced this. Rayquaza couldn't help but nod in agreement with this.
"You're not worried about James cross-dressing like some humans would be?" Rayquaza asked the blond, who gave him a blank stare.
"No, I've cross-dressed and transformed into girls numerous times beforehand, so if I was worried about that kind of stuff, I would be a hypocrite." Naruto told Rayquaza calmly. After using his sexy jutsu so many times, he really didn't have room to talk about that kind of garbage anymore. Besides, cross-dressing was actually enjoyable from time to time, especially when you knew what buttons you need to press to get the right kind of reaction. Given the fact that Naruto could act the part of a common whore far better than a normal girl because he was a male and knew what men would have wanted to see in a girl of that kind, he could actually say he knew both sides of sex... as strange as it was to admit.
"So, since we're not going on the St. Anne, where are we going to next?" Rayquaza asked Naruto, who looked thoughtful of their next move. It wasn't like he knew too much about the situation at hand.
"Not too sure personally, but I'm sure that we'll find something to do." Naruto confessed, looking almost sheepish as he admitted his weakness. There were two things that he was currently doing, training his Pokémon and winning badges to enter the Pokémon League ... well, travelling around the world if you wanted to add a 3rd idea.
However, he needed to learn how to read a map. That much was clear.
-x-
Naruto later found himself in a small shop looking at maps. Seeing as he had been struggling for directions beforehand, especially since he now didn't even know where the hell the Elemental Nations were, he had found himself wondering the lands for years.
He needed to remember how old he was too, now that he thought about it. Even if he had been living for the last century ... or whatever, it really didn't mean too much when he couldn't remember shit all, did it now?
Still, learning how to read and buying a map was the important agenda at the moment, even if he couldn't remember shit all.
"How much for the best map you have?" Naruto asked the clerk at the desk, who looked ready for the question. "I've been travelling for a while now, but I always get lost... mostly due to the people that I've now split up with, I was never allowed to read the map." Surprisingly enough, Naruto was actually really good at map reading, it was just that he needed to know the area that he was travelling in to really put it to good use, like he was attempting to do around Kanto.
The female clerk told the blond the price of the maps that he wanted to get, causing him to look surprised, before looking over at the maps that the clerk had mentioned, noting the differences in the ratios and miles per cm.
"I'll take them both." Naruto agreed with the deal, handing over the necessary money to the clerk, before he was able to walk out of the store with his newly brought items. Rayquaza, who had been waiting outside of the shop, looked at the blond.
"I take it that the quest was successful?" The Legendary Dragon Pokémon asked the blond, who chuckled.
"Of course it was. How could it not be? I was the one taking care of the dealing, not you or the kids." Naruto pointed out smugly, causing Rayquaza to roll his eyes. "With the fact that I only really got lost because I had never been down in Kanto beforehand and then decided to follow the kids just for kicks, I don't have much to be embarrassed about."
"I thought that following a bunch of kids just for kicks would be the embarrassing part." Rayquaza confessed, causing Naruto to give him a stunned expression.
"Are you kidding me? That's the best part! After being a teacher myself, I can honestly say that watching some kids, new Pokémon trainers or newly graduated Genin make fools out of themselves over the smallest things can be the best entertainment ever. I can see why my teacher loved it at times. We even joked about it at times before he died." Naruto laughed, remembering the past fondly, a sad smile gracing his features as he thought back to the good old days. "Anyway, enough of the past, let's get going, I've heard of this holiday at Maiden's Peak that's supposed to be a major occasion."
-x-
It wasn't too long before Naruto found a clearing that was out of the eyes of all but the lost adventurers, not that Naruto would have minded at this point, especially with what he had planned for his Pokémon's training. He allowed all 6 of his Pokémon's Poke Balls to come out and suddenly his Dratini, Fearow, Nidoking, Oddish, Charmander and Abra were out in the open world, feeling the fresh air once again. Rayquaza watched quietly, wondering if he should be worried about the glint that he could see in Naruto's eyes.
"Alright guys, we're going to be doing some training!" Naruto announced gleefully, rubbing his hands together in anticipation.
"Do we have to? I haven't had my daily outdoors nap yet." Dratini sighed lazily. Naruto simply rolled his eyes in response.
"Dratini, you always sleep when you're out in the open, you never do anything productive." Naruto pointed out bluntly.
"That's not true, and you know it. I've never lost any of those Pokémon battles yet, doesn't that count for something?" Dratini complained lazily. It was almost as if Dratini was almost wondering just why they were having this argument.
"There is always someone that is stronger than you. You can never assume that you are the greatest in the world, for if you think this way, when you lose it will be that much harder for you to swallow your defeat, making it much harder to come back from." Naruto lectured Dratini, who seemed to be falling asleep. "Don't fall asleep on me now!"
"Why does he need to have an argument now?" Oddish asked Fearow and Nidoking, looking really uncertain regarding whether or not she should even be speaking up about this. "If we need to train to get stronger because Naruto says we're not strong enough, I'd want to get stronger to prove him wrong if I was Dratini." Oddish confessed to Fearow and Nidoking, who nodded in agreement.
"Be happy that you weren't with Naruto when he went through Viridian Forest, having to take on an entire hive of Beedrill with just Dratini was not fun." Fearow shuddered, remembering the encounter. It didn't help that Naruto take later helped take on the hive and blew them away to show his skills.
"When are we going to have ramen? I'm starving already!" Abra demanded suddenly, causing Dratini and Naruto to pause in mid-argument to stare at the Psychic Pokémon, who was watching them with an annoyed expression. "I've already been forced to go without the stuff for days and I can't take it anymore!" Abra held his face in horror, making it look like he had been tortured by not being able to have his most beloved food.
Naruto was not impressed.
"I had to stop you from stuffing your force with the food, I don't care if it's the food of gods, you can't just have that non-stop." Naruto pointed out bluntly, knowing just what his Abra was going through. Having been tied up to a chair by Jiraiya in order to have him try something other than ramen would make that work on anyone.
Though considering that Abra could just teleport before he was caught in such a predicament kind of killed off the option before it could even begin.
He still needed to get payback on the bastard for teleporting him in the sea as well, now that he thought about it. Cocky little shit.
But then again, he did have that Pokemorph ability that Arceus had talked about before, and he hadn't tried to use it yet, so if anything, he could have a very interesting reason to use it now. Hell, if he got to teach Dratini and Abra a lesson in reason, then it would be a win-win situation, right?
"Alright then, how about this, if you can beat me while I'm using my new ability, then I will give in to your claims. However, if you can't beat me, while I'm at my weakest point, then you will have to train without complaint, until I say you can stop, every single session we have for now on, got it?" Naruto conceded. Rayquaza realized almost instantly just what Naruto was planning on doing.
'So, he's finally going to do it, huh? Well, I guess I'll get a first hand view of just why Naruto was regarded so highly in both the human and Pokémon communities.' Rayquaza thought to himself as he made his way over to the other Pokémon that weren't going to be involved in this match. Charmander sighed in annoyance, huffing out some smoke as he did so. Not too bothered by the entire conflict, thinking that it was really a waste of time more than anything else. Nidoking and Fearow were merely looking on in interest, wondering what their trainer was going to do next. Oddish meanwhile looked on in worry, not sure whether or not she was afraid by the possibility of something major happening.
Suddenly, before their very eyes, Naruto started to shrink. He continued to shrink, before he started to shine brightly, causing almost everyone to cover their eyes to avoid being blinded. When the light faded, they found themselves looking at another Pokémon, though he was looking at himself with a look of confusion. He now looked like a black and blue, dog-like Pokémon, nearing two and a half feet in height. His legs and torso were black in colour, while his head, lower body and tail were blue. He had large, rounded bumps on the back of his forepaws. He also had a black 'mask' with two black appendages on either side, and had green eyes.
"What the fuck did I transform into?" Naruto asked out loud in human tongue, much to Rayquaza's surprise, who had clearly been expecting the blond to be speaking the tongue of the Pokémon. Naruto proceeded to look at his paws in confusion, trying his hardest to figure out what was going on with him.
'He has to be the very first human to still keep his human tongue after transforming. Fascinating,' Rayquaza mused with interest, wondering what was going to happen next. Naruto suddenly fell onto his face and promptly transformed back into a human.
Well, that was almost pointless.
"How annoying," Naruto sighed in disappointment, looking at Rayquaza. "How long was that transformation held for?"
"10 seconds." Rayquaza delivered the news.
"Fuck, I need to do better than that next time." Naruto looked at his Pokémon, glaring at Dratini and Abra, who were taking the time to mock him for his failures.
A sinister smirk found its way onto his features.
Oddish proceeded to faint in horror, while Fearow, Nidoking (carrying the now unconscious Oddish) and Charmander proceeded to quickly move away from Dratini and Abra, who looked at each other in horror.
"Hey Dratini..." Abra found himself asking.
"Yes Abra?" Dratini gulped nervously.
"We're going to suffer... aren't we?"
"Yes. Yes we are."
"Run you idiots! He'll skin you alive!" Fearow, Nidoking and Charmander shouted at their fellow Pokémon, causing Oddish, who had just gained consciousness, to lose it all over again.
Oh how fun it was for Naruto. However, for some reason, it made him feel like something was missing though.

Somewhere, in the middle of the ocean on St. Anne, Team Rocket shivered violently.
-x-
Perhaps he was having too much fun for what it's worth, trying to build up a good team of Pokémon and making sure that they were strong enough to take on the world that would try to take them down. Sure his Pokémon would claim that he was torturing them to the point that it was close to killing him, but Naruto went by the method of 'No Pain, No Gain', which showed when he had time to do some training of his own, he made sure to tell his Pokémon of his own training and all of the methods that he had been taught and witnessed his fellow Shinobi do in order to get stronger, like Kakashi, who climbed up an entire mountain with one hand tied behind his back.
Pretty much all of his Pokémon looked rather uncomfortable, while even Rayquaza looked rather stunned by the lengths that humans would go in order to get stronger. This was during Naruto's time period sure, but that didn't mean that even he could question things that happened in the past.
Naruto wasn't too bothered by their reactions, hell, he even expected considering what humans of this era were like. Science was still around, though that also meant that people were also prone to start experiments and take those way too far, something that pissed him off ever since he learnt of Orochimaru's inhumane experiments and how many deaths that they caused. While Naruto could acknowledge that science needed some experiments in order to either get proven or in order to make sure they that worked to the fullest.
Wait a minute… why was he thinking of such a depressing subject? He had a number of great things to look forward to, like future gym battles, meeting new trainers, meeting new rivals, annoying the three kids he had taken to travelling with.
Were they even okay to begin with? Bah, of course they are. It's not like the ship's sinking or anything, it'd have only proven him right as to not going at all if that was the case. He didn't have anything against ships, he used one to get to Kanto in the first place. It was just that he didn't see having a ship of that size as a great idea.
Either way, he preferred having the land under his feet and being able to train his Pokémon to get stronger, it gave him a motivation, a challenge, since he wasn't allow to fight himself unless he had no other choice. He had a feeling that there would be numerous occasions that he would need to intervene in proceedings, but that didn't upset him, if anything, it made him excited for the future.
"Do you have any plans for how you want to proceed with our journey?" Rayquaza questioned his travelling companion, who turned to the legendary Pokémon.
"So far, getting more badges would honestly have to take up the main priority for me, if I want to get signs of my achievement. However, if I need to do so, I'll have a look at the region of Kanto as a whole and see what is happening. Stop people being hurt pointlessly." Naruto gave an answer, after thinking it through. Sure it was slightly idealistic, but that didn't change the fact that there were people out there that were suffering, due to one reason or another. If he could go about and helping out people when he could, he would definitely benefit in the long run.
For one, allowing his Pokémon to get experience would get them stronger, something that he knew that training alone wouldn't be able to achieve, no matter how much he wished it wasn't the case.
Two, it would allow him to meet new people who might need his help, something that he couldn't help but want to do. Not only would he be able to discover new places, but he'd be able to build up his knowledge of Pokémon to the point that he could be considered an expert on the subject.
"At least you've got a goal in mind now. Before you were just following the kids with no goal in mind and just going with the flow." Rayquaza frowned. "Do you have a destination in mind?"
"Yeah." Naruto nodded, before he smirked at Rayquaza. "Let's go."
-x-
Well... this happened.
I'm going to be completely honest with you now. I absolutely hate writing this story and it's because of this that I'm going to cancel it.
To me, if I don't enjoy writing it then I can't write to the best of my abilities and looking back at this story, I can't help but feel that this is easily one of, if not the worst stories I've ever written. I think the worst I ever wrote was the original "A Vampire's Lover" or one of my other deleted stories "My Mum's A Keyblade Master!', and trust me, those were really bad.
So here I am, with this story in my hard drive, almost 4 years without an actual update, and I had this 'mini-chapter just sitting around, so I felt that I might as well try to finish that before I go ahead and say goodbye to this story for good. Yet why did I end up hating this story so much? What exactly went wrong with it?
For one, it's really, really badly written and planned out, I was following the anime for most part and I couldn't find the motivation to write the story to my own liking. I find the while the anime gives the continents of Pokémon a vast feel, showing just how big each continent is, I still can't help but feel that there is something missing in that. The Pokémon Adventures Manga keeps my interest a lot more, but at the same time I want to bring something new to the Pokemon and Naruto Crossovers and not restrict myself in a way that holds me back.
Two, I made Naruto immortal and gave him the ability of the Pokemorph, which just doesn't fit because he's already so strong already. I mean, really, Madara cursed him to be immortal, what kind of excuse was that? I feel that I also made Naruto too old to really fit the world of Pokémon and for me, trying to make him fit the Pokémon world was so difficult, because he was already too strong as it was, and he could have pretty much beaten anyone and anything as long as they weren't a Legendary Pokémon, and even then it wasn't like they were guaranteed to give Naruto a challenge.
Three, I made him travel already with Legendary Pokémon, which while on paper seems like it could work, actually making it work without some really stupid excuse, which would make no sense to me, and I was writing the damn thing! It felt forced and I couldn't make it feel like it would work.
Four, Naruto didn't have a rival that motivated him to become stronger overall. Yes, you could claim that he could be motivated by the idea of becoming the Pokémon champion and getting all of the badges, but he never had someone to truly push him into becoming that strong. I want to fix that in the next attempt of one of these stories I do.
Five, I messed up with Naruto's Pokémon team. If I ever make an amateur mistake like I did with Nidorino again I will be so annoyed with myself. Let's just say, I won't do something like that again any time soon. I also want to be the one that decides his Pokemon team for all of the regions that he's in. It's just something that I'd feel more comfortable about honestly.
Six, pairings. Another mistake was made there, and the moment with Cynthia in Cerulean City should never have happened, full stop. I've also decided that I should be the one that decides the pairings, if there even are any in any story that I do in the future.
Let's just say that I've made a lot of mistakes in writing this story and in the future, when I attempt to write another story in the future, I'll make sure to learn from my mistakes and try to avoid making them once again.
I will keep Dratini as Naruto's starter Pokémon, for that was one of the few things that I did like.
I hope that you understand this decision I've decided to make here, for it was either keep quiet about this or just be open about the current situation with this story.
Besides, I was either going to cancel the story, or just delete outright, but I feel that having this story here reminds of my past mistakes and what I will do to improve upon it.
Next time, I will plan out the story a lot better than I ever did with this one and ensure that I at least have an idea of where I want to go with this.
Until next time, goodbye and goodnight.
