Her personal version of clean is no longer the same as it was ten years ago. When she was in middle school being clean was soaking in a hot bubble bath for hours if she had the time, and then rising from the cold water and soapy suds feeling cold, refreshed, and cleansed. These days, being clean means taking a shower to make sure that she looks and smells like she took that hour-long bubble bath in a matter of minutes. Clean now means scrubbing away at blood, brains, bones, and body oils in as little time as possible.

Being pretty ten years ago was drastically different from the present as well. It used to be thought as time well spent when she spent an hour before school in front of the mirror applying one cosmetic after the other in an attempt to look "better" in the eyes of society. Magazines and the multi-media had stated that one had to be thin and slathered in congealed pig fat and artificial black gunk to be beautiful. And she had listened. Haru doesn't have time for that now, so the best she can manage is to have eyeliner tattooed around her eyelids. Her eyes have never looked brighter and she never has to worry about it smudging or fading when she spends a night out on the roof tops waiting for the just the right angle to capture the most scandalous picture of the week and then rushing straight to a peace meeting between two families.

It's funny, because what she had always wanted to be was the most efficient of women. And isn't she now?

Isn't she?
