Disclaimer: I do not own Star Wars or the lyrics for "So Close."

No air. She couldn't take a deep breath even as his breath tickled her face. He was so close and getting closer. She was trapped between the wall and him. "I happen to like nice men." If she was going to make her escape now was the time. But maybe, suddenly she did not want to leave.

"I'm a nice man." His arms captured her shoulders.

She was no longer staring into his eyes but at his descending lips, "No, you're not. you're-"

You're in my arms

And all the world is calm

The music playing on for only two

So close together

And when I'm with you

So close to feeling alive

Frightened, that's what he knew he should be feeling, but all he felt was bitter disappointment. Ignoring the hissing mechanics and the stormtroopers and even the Sith lord himself, he stared into those dark eyes, memorizing every inch of her face as if it were/ because it was the last time he might see it.

A life goes by

Romantic dreams must die

So I bid mine goodbye and never knew

So close was waiting, waiting here with you

And now forever-

"I love you!"

"I know."

-I know

All that I want is to hold you

So close

She peeked overtop of the brush at the back door that would give them access to the shield generator. Her pulse quickened in anticipation. They were so close to defeating the Empire. He was frowning, trying to plan the best approach for their attack. But when he glanced over, he gave her that lopsided grin. He grabbed her hand and squeezed it, "You ready?"

She grinned and unholstered her blaster, "You don't know how long I've been ready. Let's do this."

So close to reaching that famous happy ending

Almost believing this one's not pretend

So far, we are, so close

He didn't see the shot; he was looking at the wires in his hands. But above all the noise of blasters, Ewoks, Wookies, and droids, he heard her sharp intake of breath. He caught her before she struck the ground, but as he propped her up against the door, he saw the dark red stain seeping through her clothes. "How bad is it?" she asked through clenched teeth.

How could I face the faceless days

If I should lose you now?

"You'll be fine, Leia." His voice betrayed him.

She breathed in sharply and her body convulsed, "Haven't you learned by now that I can tell when you're lying?"

We're so close

To reaching that famous happy ending

The storm trooper yelled for him to put his hands up, but he ignored them. His hands were vainly trying to keep her lifeblood inside of her, but it pulsed out regardless. She was beginning to fade into unconsciousness. "Leia! Stay with me, Leia!" he commanded. He could no longer see clearly as tears blurred his eyes.

Almost believing this one's not pretend

Let's go on dreaming for we know we are

"I love you!" He choked out through a throat tighter than a Wookie's grip.

Her beautiful, brown, pain-filled eyes managed to find his, and she whispered, "I know."

So close

So close

Han kissed her with all the passion he could muster, and for a moment her lips pressed back with equal force. But then they were still.

And still-

"Leia?"

-so far
