Cain groaned as the simple tranquillity of Fenaqua was disturbed yet again.
He didn't know what the argument was about this time, and, quite frankly, he didn't care to know.
They were always arguing.
The smallest thing could set them off, and once they started it was best to just leave them to it. Any attempt to stop the fights, would instantly result in them ceasing their shouts at each other and instead cause them to turn on the interferer and start yelling at him/her; united in annoyance.
It was quite funny really.
There didn't seem to be anything they did agree on.
Cain glanced up as they stormed past on their way to the lake. Glitch caught his eye and grinned. The 'adults' were lounging on the grass, both doing paperwork and enjoying the sunshine.
Glitch had some sort of theory about why they were always arguing, but Cain never gave it credence, dismissing it as a 'glitch moment'.
A splash told him that they had got the boat out. That, at least, explained this fight. It had most likely been about who was going to row. This was one of their frequent arguments. Usually he would offer to do it, his reasoning being that she was a) a girl and b) a princess, and he was technically her servant what with him being her bodyguard. But she was not a normal princess and scoffed at his old fashioned opinion, declaring that she didn't need to be served and that he was being silly.
They were both too stubborn for words, and neither could see the other's point of view.
Cain fervently hoped that neither would end up in the water. Knowing his luck they would both get soaked. And generally this made them both very grumpy.
So much for a relaxing holiday.
Their shouts and splashes floated across to Cain. He glanced over at them and couldn't help chuckling.
They had each taken an oar.
Normally this wouldn't be an issue if they were sitting beside each other.
The blond was in the stern and the brunette was in the bow. And they were facing each other.
So much for compromising.
Result; the boat was circling and the rowers were getting more and more annoyed.
Yep, they were definitely going to capsize.
A conspicuous silence from the lake worried Cain. They'd been fighting, and then they suddenly stopped.
That didn't just happen. Not with them.
If there had been a big splash, he would have assumed they'd capsized the boat, and in the chaos they'd stop each other from drowning and become friends again. At least, temporarily.
But there hadn't been a splash. There had been a dull thud and a sudden silence, and when he glanced over at the boat it was still spinning slowly but it was empty.
Cain sat up quickly, prepared to swim out to the boat to investigate, but Glitch's hand on his shoulder stopped him.
"I wouldn't. I was watching them. They're all right."
"Yeah but where are they?"
"They're in the boat."
"I can't see them."
"Okay fine, get technical. They're in the bottom of the boat. Pent up frustration and all that."
"What?"
"Relax, tin man. I doubt their friendship has progressed past kissing yet."
"How is it you know all this?"
"I've seen them. They yell at each other for ages, then they'll stop suddenly, grab each other and start kissing passionately, at least when they think no one's looking. Passion does that to you sometimes."
"Experience speaking?"
"We're not talking about me."
"Fine, dodge if you want. But those two are getting an earful when they get back."
Glitch rolled his eyes as a distinct giggle floated towards them from the lake.
