"See," Alfred was saying through a mouthful of hamburger, "I think that-"
"I don't care," Arthur interrupted. He just wanted that idiot American's voice out of his head! Why was he so obnoxious? Why couldn't he get his voice out of his head?
"H-hey Iggy, why don't you at least hear me out." Al reached out to touch his ex-father figure's shoulder. "Like I was about to-"
"I hate you." Even Arthur didn't expect it to actually come out, but it did. America looked surprised for a minute, but just smiled his goofy grin and lowered his hand.
"Oh Okay." The rest of the walk was in silence, and Iggy noticed the subtle tears rolling down the other nation's cheeks.
He watched them fall through his own clouded eyes.

Arthur sat on a bench in the park, a book on sorcery next to him. Alfred had gotten it for him, he remembered. Why did that idiot make him so mad? "Iggy! I was just-"
Arthur turned and saw the aforementioned American waving at him wildly, his perpetual smile still on his face. "Oh," England muttered, feeling the weird emotions bubbling up again. "It's you."
"Yeah," Alfred chirped. "Haha, you missed the meeting yesterday because you were out sick, so I came to-"
England felt mad. Why couldn't the bloody dolt tell?
"Stay away from me." Again, unintentional words came out.
"...Eh? Ahaha, nice joke, Iggy! Now-"
"Really. I mean it. Stay away from me. I hate you." Without once looking at his former colony, Arthur stood up and walked away.
He couldn't begin to ask himself why the tears dropping onto the pavement were his own.

That American was really getting on his nerves! Why didn't he just leave him alone? Those...those weird feelings that he got, the hatred whenever Alfred gave him that stupid grin! Arthur mentally growled as he sat in aforementioned nation's car, allowing himself to be picked up by the blasted ex-colony for the meeting that day.
"Hey, Iggy..." America trailed off, worried. At that moment, even having him curse him out with colorful British slang would have been a welcome relief from the quietness choking him.
As he sat there, Arthur grimaced. Why didn't the wanker just leave him alone, like he asked?
"Arthur...Arthur...Hey, Arthur!" There was a honk, and America looked from England back to the road, just in time to swerve to the right, narrowly avoiding a black mercedes-
-and crashing straight into a light pole. The sudden turn and impact sent England hurtling to his left. Had he had his seat belt on, he would have stayed in his seat. But the unfortunate country had failed to remember America's "click it or ticket" rule, and he went flying into the other nation's lap.
He groaned in pain as his head hit the steering wheel, and looked up, straight into his ex-colony's face. Instead of seeing a look of pain, America had a small grin on his face. "Hehe," he laughed quietly, "now I guess I have your attention, huh?"
As he helped the older man up, instead of helping him into his seat, he just hugged him. "I-I'm glad you're okay."
Arthur's cheeks burned, and the sensation in the pit of his stomach grew. Why couldn't Alfred tell before? Why hadn't the bloody idiot realized...
...that he wanted more than just a fake smile? More than just a 'hey, want to hear my awesome plan'? More attention than what he was given?
England hugged his former charge back a bit reluctantly. "I love you."
