I love getting into character's heads, especially Glinda's. Sorry for not writing in a while...I have many excuses that are very good, but I won't waist your time with. So instead...enjoy:
Masquerade!
Seething Shadows,
Breathing Lies...
Masquerade!
-Masquerade, Phantom of the Opera
Her life was a masquerade. The perfect world she lived in, her endless smiles and cheer, it all was a shallow mask that covered her true thoughts and emotions.
None of the wealthy, snobby people that she dined and danced so often with could ever guess that beneath this mask of lies was a girl who felt like she was going to scream at the falseness of it all. For Oz sakes, people were starving to death, Animals were being oppressed and her best friend was being blamed for every bad thing that happened in Oz!
Yet, the citizens kept on believing and fearing the Wizard. They couldn't see through the masquerade masks of all the politicians and followed the dance blindly, allowing powerless people like the Wizard to lead.
Only one person seemed to understand how Glinda felt. Fiyero was equally, if not even more tired of the unjustness and falseness of it all. Only, his mask had come a little lose, and he was in danger of losing it completely. He now occasionally showed his frustration with the government and the lies, along with his denial the the Witch of the West was wicked.
Both of them clung to the false cover and continued to dance despite their opinions. However, they slowly drew nearer to the end of the dance and the removal of all the masks. Soon, their true identity would be revealed, lies would be uncovered, and a different dance would start, leading them in separate directions.
For now though, the masquerade ball continued and the shallow masks stayed on.
Hope you liked it! Please review.
