From the very beginning, my family objected strongly on me dating Alex. Saying that it's wrong, it has got to do with family background and that I will have to suffer for the rest of my life if I were to be with her.
Due to my family's pressure, Alex and I quarrel very often. Though I love her deeply, but I always ask her: "Alex how deep is your love for me?"
As Alex is not good with her words, this often cause me to be very upset. With that and my family's pressure, I often vent my anger on her. As for her, she only endures it in silence.
After a couple of years, Alex finally graduated & decided to further her studies in overseas. Before leaving, she proposed to me: "I'm not very good with words. But all I know is that I love you. If you allow me, I will take care of you for the rest of my life. As for your family, I'll try my best to talk them round. Mitchie, will you marry me?"
I agreed, and with Alex's determination, my family finally gave in and agreed to let us get married. So before she leaves, we got engaged.
I went out to the working society, whereas the Alex was overseas, continuing her studies. We sent our love through emails and phone calls. Though it's hard, but we never thought of giving up.
One day, while I was on my way to work, I was knocked down by a car that lost control. When I woke up, I saw my parents beside my bed. I realized that I was badly injured. Seeing my mom crying, I wanted to comfort her. But I realized that all that could come out of my mouth was just a sigh. I lost my voice...
The doctor says that the impact on my brain has caused me to lose my voice. Listening to my parents' comfort, but with nothing coming out from me, I broke down.
During the stay in hospital, besides silent cry… it's still just silent cry that companied me. Upon reaching home, everything seems to be the same, except for the ringing tone of my phone which pierced into my heart every time it rang. I don't want to let Alex know and not wanting to be a burden to her, I wrote a letter to her saying that I can't wait any longer.
With that, I sent the ring back to her. In return, Alex sent millions and millions of reply, and countless of phone calls… all I could do, besides crying, is still crying...
My parents decided to move away, hoping that I could eventually forget everything and be happy.
With a new environment, I learn sign language and started a new life, telling myself everyday that I must forget Alex. One day, my friend Tess came and told me that Alex is back. I asked Tess not to let Alex know what happened to me. Since then, there wasn't any more news of her.
A year has passed and Tess came again with an envelope, containing an invitation card for Alex's wedding. I was shattered. When I open the letter, I saw my name in it instead.
When I was about to ask Tess what's going on, I saw Alex standing in front of me. She used sign language telling me: "I've spent a year's time to learn sign language. Just to let you know that I've not forgotten our promise. Let me have the chance to be your voice. I Love You." With that, she slipped the ring back into my finger and I finally smiled.
