Summary: Rin is a little nobody that doesn't get a second glance from anyone. She spends most of her time reading a manga about demons. When she wishes demons were real, she gets more than she bargained for.

Name of Chapter: Izayoi

Rin looked at Sesshomaru with a confused expression.

"Wait, if InuYasha's mom was human and your dad a demon; that means…" Rin trailed off.

"Yes, a half demon," Sesshomaru finished for her.

"So, you're only half-brothers?" Rin asked and Sesshomaru nodded. "Hm, never would have guessed with how well you two look like."

Rin shivered, suddenly feeling cold in the room and an irritated look was in Sesshomaru's golden eyes. She resumed her spot on the couch, bringing her legs to her chest and wrapping her arms around her knees. She frowned, seeing a grass stain on her favorite jeans.

"Izayoi was a strong woman who could hold her own with demons. Those who knew her feared her, and not only because she was my father's mate. She was kind and fair, but could have full fledge demons frightened when angered." Sesshomaru stared at the white wall as he spoke, his golden eyes showing sadness.

"What happened?" Rin asked.

"A member of the Oni was causing trouble with a couple of humans. Izayoi was passing by when she noticed." Sesshomaru said, his voice monotone. "This happened before we migrated our Headquarters to Tokyo. When we still gathered in Chiba."

(Present/Past)

"Someone help me, please!" A voice yelled as a woman was walking past an alley way. She stopped and looked. She saw a tall figure standing over two other smaller figures.

"No one will come for you, humans," the figure laughed. The figured raised its arms and the woman could see pointed finger tips that she knew to be claws. The woman went closer, not fearing the figure.

"Step away!" The woman yelled. The three figures turned and looked at the woman. The woman had coffee colored eyes and straight black hair fell to her waist. She wore a salmon colored blouse with black slacks and heels. A diamond necklace hung from her neck with matching earrings and a ring.

"She was meeting my father for lunch."

"Says who?" One of the figures yelled back. The woman saw the figure more clearly. He had piercing red eyes, tailbone length black hair that was in an Indian braid, and fangs protruding from his menacing smile. His pointed ears had diamond studs. Black jeans and a navy t-shirt adorned his muscular body and black boots. The woman instantly recognized him and knew his name to be Hiten.

"Izayoi," the woman yelled, her fists clenched. She looked past the man towards the frightened humans. They appeared to be not injured.

Hiten laughed, "Well, isn't it Missus Leader? Where is your Mister Leader?"

"Release the humans, Hiten," Izayoi commanded, ignoring Hitens questions. She couldn't let them know she was without InuTaisho.

"My father had business to attend before meeting my step mother. Izayoi was by herself."

"Or else what," Hiten said.

"If you release the humans, I will make sure InuTaisho spares your life." Izayoi glared at the man. InuTaisho's name alone was enough to cause fear to those that have crossed paths with him before. Izayoi was hoping that would be true for Hiten.

However, Izayoi knew InuTaisho would not hesitate to kill Hiten for terrorizing humans.

"How kind of you, Izayoi." Hiten said, smirking. "But I am just merely having some fun with these humans."

"They are frightened. What makes you think they are having fun?"

Hiten laughed again, "I didn't mean their fun."

"I'm going to ask you again to leave and InuTaisho will spare your life." Izayoi fixed her best menacing look on her face. She needed to protect these humans at all cost.

Hiten smirked, a devious look in his crimson eyes. Izayoi got a horrible feeling in the pit of her stomach.

"My father sensed something was amiss and left the meeting."

"Tell you what, Missus Leader," Hiten began, "I will give up these two humans for...you."

Izayoi gasped and her eyes widened. In truth, she wasn't really surprised to hear that. She was the wife and mate of the Shakai leader after all. No one hated InuTaisho more than the Oni. However, she has never been without InuTaisho since they met all those years ago.

"Let the humans go free," Izayoi commanded. She had to do this. She couldn't live with herself if something happened to the two innocent humans that were most likely in the wrong place at the wrong time. "And you will have me."

"Excellent." Before she had time to process what was happening, Hiten pulled out a pistol from his back pocket. He pointed it at the humans. A scream was heard before there was a bang, then there was silence. Hiten pointed it at Izayoi's heart and pulled the trigger.

There was silence after Sesshomaru stopped talking. Rin had tears running down her cheeks. He didn't have to continue to know what happened.

"My father heard the shots. He was just down the street." Sesshomaru continued, and Rin could hear the sadness in his voice.

"But he was too late," Rin finished. Sesshomaru nodded somberly.

InuTaisho stopped as he watched his mate fall to the concrete ground. He yelled her name as he ran to her.

"My love," he cried as he cradled her lifeless body in his muscular arms. Red pooled on her salmon colored blouse. "I am so sorry."

Hiten laughed menacingly. "At last, the great leader has lost what he values most." He smiled, seeing InuTaisho with his face in the crook of Izayoi's neck with tears flowing down his cheeks. "Closer than ever for the Oni to rule."

"Forgive me, my love," InuTaisho said, pushing back her straight black hair from her pale face. He laid his lips on her forehead. "I will avenge you."

Gently, he placed Izayoi on the ground and stood up to face Hiten. His golden eyes flashed red.

"As if you can kill me," Hiten mocked as InuTaisho cracked his knuckles.

"Did your father…." Rin swallowed past the lump in her throat. "Kill him?"

Sesshomaru nodded.

"I feel so sorry for InuYasha," Rin said as she wiped away her tears. She sniffed and Sesshomaru handed her a tissue. "I couldn't imagine losing my mother."

They were silent. Rin thought about her own mother. No matter how much Mai had lied to Rin about her father or spent all hours of the day working, Rin could never imagine her life without her mother.

"How come you guys are in Tokyo now?" Rin asked, breaking the silence.

"The Oni relocated to here three years ago." Sesshomaru replied, standing up and gazing out the window as Rin had done. "Naturally, we followed them."

"That explains where came from," Rin sighed. "The whole time I have known him, he never spoke about his past or anything related to him."

Sesshomaru nodded, watching Rin. She had stopped crying but her eyes were still rimmed with red. She adjusted herself on his couch to get in a more comfortable position. She was sitting crossed legged and had her hands resting in the center.

"Wait, you guys have been here for three years now. Why now? Is something happening with Oni?" Rin asked, fearful.

"Haru is gaining strength," Sesshomaru said, his fist against the window frame. "More quickly than we have anticipated."

"Do you know why that is? Something must have changed in the last year or so."

"Our sources have informed us that Haru has formed an alliance with a powerful demon called Hisao."

"That doesn't sound too good," Rin said facetiously. Rin chuckled, of course nothing sounded good about this clan. Why would an eviler demon change that?

"Thank you for walking me home, Sesshomaru," Rin said as they walked up to her house. It was evening and Sesshomaru insisted on walking her home.

Sesshomaru nodded, his cold exterior returned since his house.

"And thank for saving me from Haru." Rin touched her bandaged neck. It didn't hurt much anymore, just bruised feeling.

"I promised to protect you, did I not?" Sesshomaru replied, looking at her curiously.

"Yes, but still." Rin smiled at him. Rin reached up, brushing a strand of his silver hair from his eyes. She was surprised to find a stray hair from his perfect in place hair. She blushed, seeing Sesshomaru look at her, and quickly brought her hand down.

There was silence. Crickets chirped in the distance. Rin cleared her throat and started to open the door.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight, Sesshomaru." She said and was just about to go in but Sesshomaru's voice stopped her.

"Do not tell InuYasha what I told you." Rin looked at Sesshomaru, and nodded. Rin gave him one last look and entered her home.

The next day at school, Rin spotted InuYasha talking to Kagome before class. A pang struck Rin's heart, knowing he was motherless. She walked to him without thinking, tears in her eyes.

"InuYasha," Rin said and hugged him before he could say anything. "I am so sorry."

"Wha…?" InuYasha began and then it clicked. "I'm going to kill Sesshomaru!"
