Hey, everyone. I'm thinking about starting this story up again, except as a sequel. Therefore, this will be the last official chapter of Chuck vs. The Butterfly Effect, but I'll be posting a new story shortly. I didn't want to continue on with this same one because I started writing it four to five years ago when I was just beginning high school. I'm in college now and think a bit differently so I wanted to start from a fresher point. I'm going on from the same story, there will be some new story lines and such. I hope some will read it! Enjoy.

Castle
2:29 pm
Casey sat behind a computer monitor plugging away at some tedious paperwork that needed to be completed. Walker, being less of the procrastinator, already had all of her reports filed and sent in to the bosses, leaving her with more free time on her hands than her coworker. Granted, that didn't require she use her free time wisely. As she sat in one of the standard metal chairs that furnished much of the basement of Castle, she stared off into space. Using her foot to balance, she teetered the chair on its back two legs as she thought about what going to happen. Chuck was still sitting in a holding cell, and they hadn't received any further instructions from Beckman. Roberts and Barker were both on their way back from Mexico as they had already apprehended the men they were looking for.
Some things were beginning to fall back into place; the agents were back sleeping in their own beds, Casey was already falling behind on progress reports. The only thing that kept distracting Sarah was the visitor they had bunking down the hall. To avoid suspicion, they had minimal communication since Chuck was captured and brought into Castle. Also, Sarah was slightly afraid to see the look on Chuck's face – the defeated façade he'd been wearing just recently. She had made the call to his parents to help Chuck escape and his mother seemed eager to help, but there has been no indication that they took any action. Sarah was worried. She was worried that his parents no longer cared, but also that Chuck would be transferred elsewhere very soon and she would have no control over it.
Before she realized she had even fallen asleep, Sarah was awoken by the loud and high-pitched beep that emanated from the large television monitor on the wall. Her head shot up immediately from its resting place on the table, which left a noticeable red mark on her forehead, and pointed toward the monitor, awaiting some news. Beckman's face filled the screen as she shuffled around some papers and looked at each of the agents.
"Walker, Casey." The General addressed them and looked back down at a manila folder filled with various papers and pictures.
"Yes, General. D'you have a mission for us? Bomb threat? Arms deal?" Casey asked a little anxiously, hoping for some action.
"You're just sick of doing paperwork." Sarah teased, receiving a small smile from Beckman.
"Alright, I think I better just come out with this, though I'm sure neither of you will be pleased. You will be acquiring another team member, yet this one lacks formal training. He has other assets that will prove incredibly valuable, however. I would like you both to try and welcome Charles Carmichael, a human Intersect, onto the team. Any questions?" Beckman finished and awaiting the response from her audience, who – up until that point – had been very quiet.
"Why? Why is this happening? I don't understand?" Casey muttered, unimpressed. "Now you're expecting me to work with criminals? Perfect. I suppose now we'll start recruiting new spies from the local county jail?" His entire comment was dripping with sarcasm as he held back nothing from his superior.
"About done, Major?" Beckman held his gaze, awaiting an appropriate and controlled answer from him.
He gave the smallest of nods and a quick snort as a response, allowing Sarah to pose a few questions of her own.
"Did you say Intersect?" She asked, quizzically, even though she very well knew that Chuck had a copy of the Intersect 2.0. She also knew that it was malfunctioning to the point where it was overpowering his brain.
"Yes, which is why he will prove to be extremely useful to us. Major, would you go and unshackle your new partner?"
Casey visibly stiffened, but nodded at the General before turning on his heel and walking down the hall toward the holding cells. A minute passed before he returned with Chuck trailing closely behind, free of restraints of any sort. As Chuck approached the monitor with the General's face plastered on the screen, he rubbed his chafed wrists and said, "What is this? No handcuffs? Either you guys are getting sloppy, or you're letting me go."
"Not quite." Sarah whispered without making eye contact with Chuck. She was still shocked by this entire situation. Not only was Chuck not being sent away to a jail in some state thousands of miles away, but he would no longer be on the run. She was going to have him as a coworker, accomplice, friend..the possibilities were endless.
"Mr. Carmichael, or should I say, Agent Carmichael. Welcome to the team. We know that you have a copy of the Intersect and I'm sure we can put it to good use." The surprise was not hidden from Chuck's face as he listened to what the General was telling him. "The Intersect will become an incredibly valuable asset, but we also must ensure your safety and health as much as possible. We have secured three separate rooms at the Louise Hamilton Learning Academy in Virginia." She paused and took an exaggerated breathe before continuing, "In other words, I'm sending you all to spy school. Sarah and Casey, you will be Specialty Instructors, assisting all of the agents with their skills. Carmichael, you are there to hone your abilities and sharpen the skills you've already developed. I am also aware that the Intersect is not working entirely properly. That is why I am sending two doctors to help with reversing the negative side effects and figure out exactly what is going wrong. Hopefully, by the end of this six week training course, you'll be ready to join the team as a fully-fledged agent." Beckman explained the situation to the three people standing in front of her monitor. She knew that this news would be shocking to the team and hard to grasp, but having control of another human Intersect would be well worth it.
"If these two are going to be there to train me, why don't they just train me here?" Chuck questioned, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Castle is a good base, but it is nothing compared to what you'll be able to experience in Virginia. Also, have as minimal visible contact with each other as possible while there. We need to draw as little attention to the Intersect as possible, but keep him safe. Understood?" After she received nods from all three of her underlings, Beckman promptly severed the connection and her face disappeared from the screen.
Casey grumbled a few expletives under his breath as he stormed out of the secret base, leaving Sarah and Chuck alone. As soon as he disappeared from view, Chuck turned toward Sarah and asked, "What's going on here? Agent Carmichael? Is this a joke?"
Still a little perplexed herself, Sarah began to answer slowly, "I don't know, I'm guessing this is the work of your mother, but..wow. Just wow."
"And they know about the Intersect? And they're going to try and fix it? Why would my parents tell them about the Intersect? This doesn't make sense, Sarah" Chuck rambled on, attempting to find an answer to his many questions.
"Look, Chuck, we just need to act normally. Pretend that you had no knowledge that this would happen and live your life as you normally would." Sarah tried to placate him, to little avail.
"But there is no normal here. What is normal anymore? I was never an average kid. Never lived that happy, suburb-family lifestyle, but this? This is a little ridiculous. One minute I'm on the FBI's most wanted list, and next I'm first on their recruitment list?" He speculated, while pacing in circles around Castle's debriefing table.
"Well, first off, we're the CIA and NSA, not the FBI." This comment received a glare from Chuck, which Sarah ignored as she continued. "But that's not really important. What is important is that you calm down, stop pacing, and…" She trailed off as she closed the gap between the two of them, but he continued his incessant pacing around the dark room. "Chuck! Relax. Come here." She soothed as she took a few steps toward him and placed a hand gently on his cheek. "Please trust me. We'll get through this." She reassured with a small smile and a squeeze of his hand.
He slowly nodded his head and visibly attempted to calm himself. "Okay."

Burbank International Airport
Burbank, California
6:02 am
"So, Roberts and Barker are staying at home while we go off to Virginia?" Chuck questioned as he, Casey, and Sarah all walked through the large, crowded airport.
"Mmhmm." Sarah answered as she scoped out the entire area; there were business men droning monotonously on cellphones about the most recent stock market flux, mothers hopelessly attempting to herd their children toward the correct plane terminal before their approaching flight, and single women rushing frantically to their plane with mounds of luggage in tow.
"So you guys drew the lucky straw and get to go with me, huh?" He joked lightly, but was stopped immediately when Casey's large figure appeared directly in front of him.
With the look of a feral grizzly bear, the large agent got menacingly close to Chuck before speaking quietly, "Lucky would be me, sent out via a chopper, to take out Afghani warlords in an attempt to save the many citizens of our country. This? This is..a joke." The brick of a man grunted and stormed off ahead of the other two agents to board the plane alone.
"Y'know, I've found that the more I talk, the less he stays around." Chuck joked about Casey.
"It's true, he doesn't seem to like the sound of your voice. I can't say the same." She smiled slyly, turning her head just enough to make eye contact with Chuck for just a moment before looking away.
He smiled a large, and slightly goofy grin before speaking, "I still can't believe this is happening, Sarah." He looked forward and found Casey rounding a corner nearly fifteen feet ahead, almost entirely out of site. Without a second of hesitation, Chuck stopped in the middle of the swarm of people and grabbed hold of Sarah's wrist. With a light tug, he pulled her tightly against his body and embraced her in a heated kiss. What knew their time was limited and he made up for that with passion. He ended the kiss too soon, leaving her lips quivering with want.
"I don't know how your parents were able to pull this off, but I'm not going to complain." She smiled as they melded back into the ongoing flow of people walking to their appointed flight terminals. They spent the rest of their short travel in amiable silence to the loading docks, until Chuck froze at the sight of a young couple getting their passports checked by security. Sarah asked, concerned, "What's wrong, Chuck?" She placed a hand on his arm and rubbed lightly.
"There is no way." He stood, still gawking at the completely unaware couple.
"There is no way, what? Talk to me, here, Chuck."
"Beckman said she was sending two doctors to help with my…condition. Right?" He asked, recounting their earlier conversation with the General.
"Yes, but what does this-"
Chuck interjected more quietly than he had been speaking before, "I know one of the doctors being sent to help fix the Intersect. I'm guessing this was another one of my parents' schemes."
"What? How do you know? Did you flash?" Sarah questioned him rapidly, hoping to work some answers out of him.
"No. I uh-, d'you see that girl up there? Brown hair, standing next to the walking Ken doll." Chuck asked, pointing past the crowd of people in front of them.
"Oh, yeah, I see them"
"Well, the girl. She's uh..She's my sister."

Chuck and Sarah sat stiffly in their seats, waiting for Casey to fall asleep in the row diagonal from the two. After about ten minutes of thumb twiddling and foot shuffling, the two agents were able to relax as John Casey's breathing had appeared to have evened out. As soon as the eldest of the three agents had fallen asleep, the other two were sneaking glances at the doctors sitting a few rows ahead.
"You think your parents planned this?" Sarah asked as she tried to get a better glance at the brunette woman.
"There's no other way that this happened. Ellie isn't a famous brain surgeon or anything. She's just a doctor. Last time a checked, she has a degree in neurology, works in Burbank. By the way it looks, she's dating that blonde guy, but besides that…I don't know. I know that the government wouldn't have recruited her for a job, but…I guess I just don't know her that well anymore." Chuck trailed off, talking more to himself at that point than to Sarah.
"It's okay, Chuck. We'll figure this out." She grabbed his hand and squeezed gently before letting go, just in case the Major didn't stay asleep. To try and pass the time, Chuck closed his eyes and attempted to drift into a sleep thousands of feet above the ground.
Authors note: That was it for this story. I wanted to wrap it up and transition into another piece. This is sort of how I invisioned the ending. I had always planned on Chuck becoming an actual member of the team so I could experiment with that. Anyway, thanks for reading. Any ideas you have for the next story are needed, wanted, etc. Message, review, and thanks for playing.
