When the portal closed, it closed forever. She knew it was true. About this, at least, he wouldn't lie; it was too important.
His image had just faded, and now there was only cold, wind-swept beach. His last, unsaid words hung in the air like smoke. She reached out; closed her fingers around the emptiness.
She felt desolate, like the Bay. Scoured raw by wind and sea and time. The pounding of her heart matched the waves' rhythmic beat; both sounds were impossibly lonely.
Her mother was there. Her father. Mickey.
But the Doctor was gone, and Rose was alone.
