Jesse was cute, and sweet, and funny. He danced, he was a perfect gentleman; and she really liked him. But when Derek pulled her away it was expected. He was always going to pull her away. She was always going to wish she didn't like it. That was just the way it was.
When he pulled her away from Jesse, Casey wished she could say she was surprised; but she wasn't. She really wished she could say she was angry, or disappointed, or annoyed; but Casey couldn't lie to save her life.
Casey wished she could say she wasn't just a little bit giddy that he ditched his date for her. She would really like to say that the reason she wasn't taking that tour had nothing to do with the thought of not seeing Derek for an entire year. She really, really wished she could say that the afore mentioned thought didn't make her physically sick.
Casey wished she could say a lot of things when it came to Derek. If only some of them were true.
Roxy was hot, and cool, and she laughed at all his jokes. She was rich, she knew what she wanted; and he really liked her. But when the thought popped into his head to grab Casey, he forgot about his actual date completely. Casey was always going to make everyone else seem unimportant when compared to her. He was always going to compare people to her. That was just the way it was.
When he saw her kiss Jesse, Derek wished the feeling that surged through him was jealousy; but it wasn't. He really wished he could say it was brotherly, but that was a load of crap and everyone knew it.
Derek wished he could say he thought of Jesse as a threat, because that would make all of this much less serious. He really wished he hadn't constantly been laughing at that complete amateur because there was no way he would ever be able to handle her. He really, really wished that he didn't thank of her as his. But she was.
Derek wished he could say a lot of things when it came to Casey. If only some of them were believable.
Casey really liked Jesse and Derek really liked Roxy; but when the credits rolled it would always be Casey and Derek.
And they wouldn't ever wish for anything different.
