Adam sighed again as he ran a hand down the side of his face. He, along with Static and Gear, were again dealing with the meta breed. Static and Gear were dealing with the others, he was dealing with Ebon. Or at least he would if his brother wasn't running at the moment. The reformed gangster chased the elder male through the twists and turns of the back allies of the south side of town, getting annoyed at having to fight his only remaining family. Moments later, he heard Ebon curse in annoyance at a dead end, Adam getting there before his brother turned around.
"I don't want to do this Ivan." Adam said tiredly, facing his brother with a worn look. Ebon turned to face his younger brother, annoyed at the use of his real name. It was then he noticed Adams worn look, noticing in several other fights that Adam didn't really seem all that into fighting him.
"Well you don't really have a choice do you?" Ebon growled out, eyes narrowing in a light glare. Adam sighed again, mouth going into a sad frown, a question burning in his mind, the same question that had been with him for months.
"I gotta ask a question first." Adam said, getting into his own fighting position. Ebon got into his own position easily, noting that Adam seemed have gotten better at his defensive positioning.
"You can ask, I might have an answer," Ebon replied, secretly thrilled that his brother was even considering asking him anything. Adam hadn't really relied on Ebon for a few good years, ever since he got his life going for him. Adam nodded in thanks.
"Where did we go wrong Ivan? We use to be close, but every since mom died, we haven't been. Knowin' this, it hurts, your the only family I have left," Adam said, fists clenching loosely. Ebon looked at his brother in surprise, not really expecting that question, or those words. It was all true of course, but Ivan had tried not to dwell on it.
"I don't know Adam." Ivan said, his pose relaxing, Adam relaxed himself, a sorrowful expression on his face.
"I really wish it didn't turn out this way," Adam responded, shaking his head. Ivan felt his throat go dry, he had always looked at Adam as his responsibility, and when Adam grew up, it changed. Adam hadn't needed him anymore. It still hurt to think that his baby brother didn't need him anymore, he'd always needed him, even when their parents were alive.
"Me to," Ivan responded, equally tired about the situation.
"I still have faith in you." Adam said, arms crossing over his chest. Ivan's white eyes widened in surprise. He wouldn't ever admit it, but what Adam said, made him feel warm in the heart he thought he didn't have.
"I have faith in you too little brother, but we cant go back, not now." Ivan said, getting into his fighting stance once again. Adam didn't follow suit.
"Yeah we can. People can change Ivan, remember that. I'll always have faith that you can make yourself a better person, to prove this city wrong, to prove every one wrong. But I can't wait for that, I can't wait for your stubbornness to subside. I have a new life, and I'm happy, more then I've been since our parents died. I wish you could be happy to," Adam said. In a quick movement, Adam was behind Ebon and with a quick hit, Ebon was unconscious. His fading thoughts were that he failed at taking care of his brother, and it broke something inside of him that he had thought he had lost. His heart.
