The smell was nauseatingly sweet, and even though I stood at the top of the stairs, it burned the back of my throat like fire. I looked around the room once again, humans danced under the pulsing lights while the house shook with the bass.
Emmett was standing by the snack table scaring Mike Newton, Bella was being pulled from place to place, Rose stood near the window looking bored, but I could feel her excitement, and then my eyes fell upon my love. Alice sat on the couch talking very animatedly to Angela, they both giggled while staring at Eric tryng to dance.
I smiled at her, and almost immediately she looked up and smiled back, her her smile made the burning stop, even if only for a second.
Carlisle had come to stand next to me unnoticed, "You've done well tonight", he said.
"Thank you", I replied,"I just wish I could hold out longer", I looked back at Alice.
"It will come, in due time.", he said calmly.
Alice quickly turned toward the window, and then looked at me with wide eyes. Both Carlisle and I watched as a car pulled up in the drive way and three Quiluate boys hopped out.
"Here we go", I murmured.
I looked back up to find Alice, and she was gone. I panicked, racing down the stairs followed by Carlisle I felt for her emotions. A feeling of pure terror emanated from the kitchen, Alice stood holding onto the counter, with a familiar blank expression. She suddenly lost her grip, and before she was anywhere near hitting the floor, I swooped her up into my arms and took her farther back into the dinning room.
Without any warning, she jumped, "I knew it!", she yelled.
Carlisle and I just looked at her, surprised. I was expecting some feeling of triumph, but the only thing I got was fear.
"Ali, it's okay..." She then just stared at me, I pulled her closer, "Alice, what's wrong?"
Her emotions were a whirlwind, fear, panic, and then out of nowhere a burst of anger.
"Alice?"
She jumped out of my arms; "Dogs", she mumbled as she moved out of the room, leaving both Carlisle and I confused.
I moved slowly behind her, but Carlisle thought It would be better If I stayed he placed his hand on my shoulder.
I watched her scan the room for someone,
"Alice!",she started to make her way to Bella, who was standing behind Jacob.
My heart dropped, 'Alice, get away from him, get away from him, now', my mind yelled, 'Get her away from him, Jasper!'
I started to move to Jacob, "Jasper, wait",Carlisle called.
I listened.
"Bella, I need to speak with you", Alice smiled.
"Okay. Bye Jake!", Bella said, just a little to enthusiastic to leave.
Alice turned only to find Jacob throwing his arm up in front of her; her expression, incredulous. A fear rose inside of her, but she didn't show it.
My mind screamed at me, 'kill him!"
Before Carlisle could catch me, I was next to Jacob.
'kill him', it screamed again.
I was holding back my anger, my annoyance, the hostility I felt, I was trying not to hurt him.
Alice took a breath and nodded her head, 'Calm, Jasper, remember where you are.'
I exhaled, as Jacob slowly lowered his arm, Alice pulled Bella back to the dinning room.
I grabbed Jacob's shirt, and discretely pinned him against the door, "Get anywhere near her again, you will lose the arm", I growled, "understood?"
He nodded his head quickly, and I dropped him back on the ground.
