Ken watched his younger brother and sister sleep, a tired smile on his face as he kept watch over them. Even in the safety of their own home, Ken was always keeping an eye on his siblings. He knew his mother, Toph, was perfectly capable of defending them as well as herself, but his father had promoted him to Man of the House while he was away, and he would act as such.

Toshi shifted slightly in her sleep and kicked Koda, making the nine-year-old grumble and kick back. Ken huffed in amusement, shaking his head at his siblings.

"Ken, come here!"

"Coming mom!" Ken said, rushing into the living room only to be slapped in the face by a piece of paper.

"Read that to me." Toph said, flopping onto a chair and looking expectant.

Ken pulled the paper from his face and looked at it, grinning when he recognized his father's handwriting. He opened his mouth, reading the letter's contents eagerly,

Toph,

I won't be too sappy, because there's no doubt that one of the kids is reading this to you. I just wanted to say that I'm doing pretty good. I haven't had much to do lately, so I've had some free time. Being chief is actually kind of fun, everyone listens to me for once! Because, you know, they have to. Haha.

Anyway, how are you guys doing? It's a lot of fun having everyone listen to me and all, but I miss you guys. I don't know when I'm getting out of here, but I hope it's soon. You guys should send me letters more often, I want to know what's going on. Tell Katara and Aang to send letters too, I haven't gotten anything. You guys forgot about me, didn't you?

I have to cut this short, a shipment just came in. I love you guys!

-Sokka

Ken finished reading the letter, the grin still attached to his face as he looked at Toph.

Toph smiled, shaking her head. Sokka certainly hadn't changed much, she thought. Still silly as ever. "He's such an idiot."

Ken laughed a little, rolling up the letter and putting it with the others that they'd gotten. "But he's our idiot."

"Yes he is. Now go to bed, it's late."

Ken pouted. "Okay. Night mom."

After a good night from Toph, the ten-year-old made his way back over to his siblings, crawling in beside them and getting under the covers. Until his father returned, he would keep watch over his family even in his sleep.

Tokka. Because I can.

I actually wanted to write something between Zuko and his son, but Sokka's letter popped into my head and I had to write it. So here you are.

Ken is 10, Koda is 9, and Toshi is 6. Just by the way.
