Part 1 Epilogue:

"Where do I start?" Kal said with held back excitement; Bruce picking up on the tone, despite Kal's attempts to hide it.

"You start here. In the cave." Bruce began in a grizzly voice as he reached up and pulled his mask back over his face. "I have other things to take care of. Stay here, and don't do anything stupid. That's the first thing you can do to prove that I can trust you." Turning to Alfred after he spoke; Bruce cast his butler a worried look; telling Alfred with his eyes that revealing his true identity was a bad idea. "You can keep an eye on him." Bruce ordered with mild irritation as he stormed by Alfred and towards the Batmobile; grabbing a folder off of the computer table before leaping into the driver's seat. The engine burst to life as the rumble sound filled the chasm beneath Wayne Manor.

The Batmobile exploded out of the cave, leaving Kal and Alfred alone in the dark. The two cast each other awkward smiles as several bats began to screech in the chasms that were imbedded into the walls. Kal turned to Alfred, casting him a confused look. "Did I say something wrong?" Kal asked in a worried tone; to which Alfred responded with a cheerful smile.

"Try not to mind him; he has many tasks that require his attention; Batman is a full-time job after all." Alfred spoke with a comforting tone as he approached Kal, placing a friendly hand on his shoulder. "We have facilities should you wish to shower and shave." Kal felt at the stubble on his face; it had been a long time since he had a metal strong enough to cut his hairs. "We have a stockpile of food and water down here as well should you feel famished at all." Stopping near the table Kal had awoken on, Alfred pulled out a small medical kit. "I will stay here with you while we wait for Master Bruce to return."

There was a silence that seemed to hang in the air after that, as the two stood in the musky darkness that consumed the cave. Kal reached up to and brushed a hand through his hair awkwardly as he looked around the cave. "So;" Kal said as he tried to fill the silence. "Bruce Wayne is Batman. That's... wow." Kal said nervously as he smiled awkwardly towards Alfred, who returned a nervous smile to his guest. "I read in the paper not long ago that Bruce Wayne had adopted a Ward." Kal said as the nervous tension that was already present began to intensify as Alfred nodded, looking around the cave with nervous eyes. Alfred found that now, while alone with this man who could run across the city in seconds, who could withstand gunfire; he was more than slightly intimidated. The silence continued to hang in the air as Kal reached up and rubbed his throat. "You know; I think I could go for some of that water, actually."

Alfred smiled towards Kal, raising his arm and directing Kal towards the living quarters within the cave. "After you, young man."

Vicki Vale typed away at her desks computer; a look of utmost concentration was etched into her face. It was as if the apocalypse itself wouldn't wrest her gaze, or her attention.

"Vic!" The voice of Perry White called to her from down the hall; yet the words were lost to the cornucopia of voices and clicking keypads as Vicki Vale continued to work away at her next article. "Vale!" Perry tried again, this time the futility of his endeavour met him with a laughed. "I taught you well, kid." Perry chuckled to himself as he made his way to Vicki's desk.

"What do you want Perry? I'm on a deadline." Vicki said without tearing her eyes away from the screen, or stopping her fingers from typing.

"It's that Detective you spoke with from Metropolis; she arrived a few minutes ago." As Perry finished he caught a glimpse of Vicki clicking the save button on her document before spinning around on her chair.

"Why is it you felt the need to walk all the way up here to tell me, instead of just using the damn phone Perry?" Vicki said with mild agitation as she sprang from her chair, quickly scooping up a notepad and a pen.

"Hey, it's not my fault that she and I got into a heated discussion; one that actually lasted from the lobby that continued until we reached the interview room. I grew up in Metropolis you know." Perry said with pride as Vicki shut off her computer before turning to face him.

"You can be impossible sometimes. You're lucky you're the second best reporter in the pen." Vicki said with a grin as she raced past Perry and towards the interview room. Her excitement could barely be contained as she rounded another corner and came face to face with the door. She quickly straightened herself out as she didn't want to appear unprofessional with a Metropolis detective.

Her fingers reached out and began to twist at the doorknob; she gracefully entered the room. "Detective Essen; it's a pleasure to finally meet you in person." Vicki said in a cheerful tone as he closed the door behind her, approaching Detective Essen with an outstretched hand. Essen stood up and shook her hand with a smile.

"Please, call me Sarah. I'm happy to be here. You helped put us onto Schlotts trail. He's already been taken into custody. We're collaborating with the Star City Police to put a case together." Essen said as she leaned back in her chair, her long blonde hair and relaxed demeanour was not what Vale was expecting.

Vale and Essen began to discuss the Schott case; Essen had agreed to give her the exclusive if the evidence panned out; which it had. However, elsewhere in The Gotham Times building, Perry White was busy giving a lecture to interns about the importance of spell-check, when the Editor of the paper, Alexander Knox came up behind him with a look of great anger.

"White! In my office! NOW!" Perry rolled his eyes, causing many of the interns of have to force down a laugh. Perry grudgingly turned around and began to follow Knox into his office.

"What's this about boss?" Perry said with a mockingly cheerful tone; causing Knox to glare at him, which always meant that his upper brow would start to twitch. Perry always loved to see those eyebrows dance.

"Like you don't know? You're the most senior staff here and this bit of news got by you?" Knox said in a deep, low tone as Perry looked at him with distrust. "Sit down, and let me explain then." The tone in Knox's voice did not sway, and Perry knew that he was either in deep crap, or there was something wrong with the politics of running the paper that Knox needed his help on.

Sirens howled in the distance of the downtown Gotham area; and stashed away in one of the many back alleyways was a disgraced detective who was hell-bent on revealing the true nature of the man responsible for his badge being taken away. However, Harvey Bullock had both the unfortunate and fortuitous circumstance that he did live in Gotham; and these days, being a good Cop in Gotham meant you had one thing on your side that the competition couldn't seem to match.

"I have the files." The grizzly voice of the Batman called to Bullock as he remained hidden in the shadow; though Bullock took this opportunity to reveal himself, hoping that Batman would do the same. Bullock waited for a moment, and then the files were tossed lightly to the ground at his feet. Bullock looked around with distrust before kneeling over to pick them up.

"This is everything you have on 'Honest 'Ed'? Because I need something concrete to take that smug jerk down." As Bullock rested the files at his side, he took note of how hefty the files seemed to be; this may have been the break he needed.

"It's everything you'll need." The voice came from behind him this time, causing the detective to go stiff, trying his best not to reveal his fear. "He has ties to the Joker; so if you find the clown during your investigation, don't engage him on your own. Call Gordon." There was a swooshing noise, and Bullock swung his head around and up to see the cape of the Batman disappear over the roof.

Kal and Alfred sat in the bat-cave in silence; sitting at a table and drinking tea that Alfred had made. There were so many questions Kal had, so many things that he wanted to ask Alfred about Bruce, about Batman! Kal had been trying not to pry after how put off Alfred had been at the mention of Bruce Wayne's Ward, and didn't want to press his luck. And so the two sat in silence as they waited for Batman to return.

"What makes you believe that Batman can help you?" Alfred asked with a curious tone as Kal looked back to him with bewilderment. There was a silence that hung in the air as Kal tried to put his thoughts into proper words.

"Well; at first I thought he might be like me." Alfred's eyelids raised slightly when Kal said this. "I thought there might be something he could tell me about how to control my powers. But he's not like me; is he?" A look of longing was cast towards Alfred, and the butler almost felt bad when he shook his head to confirm what Kal had said. "Even still, he's just a regular man then. A man who can make himself appear to be supernatural. Maybe… maybe he can help a supernatural person be normal. Or at least help me learn to control myself properly… I just don't want to hurt anyone because of what I can do."

Kals face held the look of longing that made Alfred realize that this boy was more than just segregating himself from his own adopted family; he had been segregating himself from the rest of humanity. "You know," Alfred began; "Master Bruce is capable of many things; but I have seen what you are capable of. The feats you are capable of are beyond anything that Master Bruce has encountered. And your attack on the Jokers stronghold was something that Batman hope's to have you re-create for all of the scum of this city… I am sorry to say it Mister Kal; but I believe you may have come to the wrong person for help." Alfred took another sip of tea, and Kal stared down to his cup and he began to contemplate Alfred's words.

Johnny Frost came bursting gun first into an abandoned building on the outskirts of Gotham; it was a safe house that Joker had established years' prior, one of many that Joker and Johnny had been bouncing between since Kal had run amuck of their stronghold. "Area's clear!" Johnny shouted back through the door once he had done a proper sweep.

The door swung open violently as Joker came stomping in, his feet clapping loudly against the ground as he tried to show his displeasure at the current scenario he found himself in. "Months Johnny! MONTHS!" Joker kicked over a coffee table in frustration as he began to pace between several reclining sofa-chairs that were pointed at an old television set. "I've been planning this big hoo-haa for all of Gotham to enjoy; and then that leather jacket wearing, black haired, freak of nature ruined it all!" Joker reached down and picked up the table he had kicked over and threw it towards a nearby wall; one of the legs on the table broke off as it collided with the hard concrete. "I had it all worked out perfectly. It was gonna start with Gordon's house! I was gonna use my bazooka to blow it right up, everyone inside eating diner and then… BOOM!" The hands of the Joker were animating the scene as he spoke. "People would assume it was a gas-explosion because of the blue-prints you planted; I had it all worked out." A disappointed sigh escaped the Joker as he planted himself in one of the chairs and motioned Johnny to sit next to him.

"It sounds like it would'da been lots of fun boss." Johnny said in a comforting tone as he took a seat next to Joker, resting the shotgun beside his chair on the opposite side of Joker.

"Oh you don't know the half of it Johnny-Johnny! Once everyone is Gotham had settled with a new Commissioner I was gonna blow up their house too; but this time we would let them know what we did to Gordon. And that was still only phase 1! Phase 3 had us handing guns out to Nuns and Imams and telling them winner takes all!" Another disappointed sigh came out of Joker as he rested his face in his hands. "And Phase 2… Phase 2 would have been so much fun that I don't even want to talk about it."

"It's okay boss; I'm sure you'll figure something out. You always do." Johnny said as he reached out for the remote and handed it to Joker. "Do you wanna watch something on the boob-tube?" A small giggle began to ring out of the Joker that made Johnny recoil for a moment, and the Joker looked up to reveal that he was now laughing; and for a single moment before Joker spoke, Johnny was sure he was about to get shot.

The Joker continued to laugh as he spoke; "Heh-heh… boob." Johnny began to laugh with him, and Joker took the remote and put on the news. "You know Johnny-Johnny; I think you and me are gonna have a long, lucrative career together."

Johnny smiled, but the Joker just kept on laughing; and though he felt slightly uncomfortable about it, Johnny laughed along for fear of what might happen if he didn't.
