A/N: Quote [Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened] is from Dr Suess (childrens author, look him up if you don't already know him!).
This is not my normal style at all but a writing bug took me with this when I saw the quote. It didn't work quite as well as I hoped but it's not too shabby if I do say so myself (feel free to give me your opinion on this in a review *wink wink nudge nudge*).
If you're wating for my other stories to be finished then I am EXTREEMLY sorry but I've only recently finished exams AND I've hit a wall and can't find anywhere to go. I will finish it eventually, it just may take some time so please be patient with me.
Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.
6 months later
Gwen climbed out of the car and slammed the door behind her. Holding her pregnant stomach she half walked half waddled towards the man at the top of the hill with her doting husband a pace behind her.
"Couldn't have picked a nice warm pub could you? It's freezing out here!" Joked Rhys as they approached their friend.
"Oh I'll miss that, the Welsh complaining." Chucked Captain Jack Harkness. It felt strange to him to laugh, he hadn't laughed in 6 months, he'd spent so much time running, running away from his memories.
"You know Jack," started Gwen as she approached him, touching him lightly on the arm, "You done the right thing."
Jack shook his head, "But what about all those people that get hurt, get killed, because of me? Suzie, and Owen, and Tosh, and Ianto, even Steven. I can't stay here Gwen."
Gwen pulled her friend into a tight hug over her bulging belly. "Please stay Jack, for me." She felt him shake his head as he pulled away. She felt hot tears beginning to pour down her face.
Jack smiled a little, "You told me something once Gwen, something you told me never to forget. Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened. Obviously the 456…" he trailed off.
Gwen nodded as she took a step back into the comforting arms of Rhys. "Stay Jack." she pleaded one last time.
"I can't."
"Just a little longer? Ianto…" she choked on the word, "Ianto wouldn't want you to just run away like this." She knew it was pointless but she wasn't about to let Jack leave the place he'd called home for so long. She needed him, Cardiff needed him, the Earth needed him and they weren't ready to get by without him just yet.
Jack flipped open his vortex manipulator and pressed a few buttons before closing the cover once again. He smiled slightly at the couple in front of him, "It's been good. Really good." He sighed sincerely, "But there are too many ghosts here now." He looked up at the sky moments before a beam of light hit him. "Goodbye Gwen."
Gwen watched as the man she would always think of as her boss vanished, leaving no trace, no record of his existence. Captain Jack Harkness was as good as her imaginary friend, only she and Rhys knew such a man had walked the earth. Gwen turned into her husbands arms and allowed emotion to overflow her.
