"Hmm?"
He looks up at her, his eyes momentarily flashing gold before returning to his normal, lust glazed colour.
"Can you," she turns around to place a finger on his nose, "Promise me something,"
He returns to his original position, his lips resting against her neck and placing feather light kisses against her sticky skin. Breathing in the musky smell, his kisses travel up to her earlobe.
"Depends on what I'm promising you," he whispers huskily.
Morgana lets out an involuntary shiver before attempting to hold onto the piece of sanity that is slowly slipping out of her mind.
"I don't think it's going to be fulfilled,"
Merlin frowns, before gentling sucking on the skin just below her ear.
"What makes you say that?"
Morgana pauses and opens her mouth before closing it again.
"It's against your destiny. You know as well as I do we're not supposed to be together. We're changing the course of the future just being here, now,"
This he knows, far too well.
"You know I don't care, at least not at this very moment,"
"You should," she whispers, "You shouldn't love me, Merlin,"
He lets out a frustrated sigh, placing a kiss on her jaw and gentle placing his palm on her cheek to get her to turn around to face him.
"But I do,"
She nods, a small smile gracing her lips.
"Promise me you'll stay with me forever,"
Merlin isn't exactly startled by her proposition. The promise she wants him to keep, the promise he doesn't know if he can keep. The destiny of a prince, a kingdom, a universe, a future rests on his shoulders. Something he can't give up and something that is completely impossible to run away from. Nothing can stop him from following his destiny, not even Morgana. But he loves her too much to let her go and he loves her far too much to give her up.
Gently brushing his thumb over her lips, he lets out a breath.
"I promise,"
Her eyes flash gold, a sign of strong emotion and he smiles before removing his thumb and replacing it with his lips.
Even though their promise is something that won't last forever, they're too caught in the moment to worry.
The both of them want it to last as long as it possibly can.
