Regret.
And humiliation.
Every emotion inside her rendered her immobile. So when he lowered his head to her ear, she could absolutely do nothing.
"The way you're feeling right now is nothing compares to what I've been feeling every day of my fucking life since the damn day. And you know what? I've had it! I'm tired of the fighting. Tired of the games. Tired of these fucking emotions I can't get rid of and tired of you acting like you don't care!"
Rika remained frozen in place, looking straight into nothing.
"Whether you like it or not, you are mine. And I will have you, just you wait."
Gently pulling her jeans up to its proper height, he buttoned it, zipped it, then said, "This," pointing out her state, "is only child's play and you sure as hell look near ready to die now." Bending down once more, but this time leveling her eye to eye, he added, "So I promise you the next time I ravish your body, I'll kill you with pleasure ten times over."
With that, he got up, opened the door, and exited the room. And the minute the door slammed shut, Rika's knees gave out as tears ran free down her face.
Chapter 17: "Confession"
"Oh…my…applesauce with grated cheese! Where is she!" Kiara exclaimed, eyeing the time on her iphone. 15 minutes had gone by since Rika's departure from the bathroom to check the perimeter for a certain someone.
"I know that campus is huge, but my biochemistry class should have only taken her 6 to 8 minutes to get to from here and that's if she actually went that far and into Building B, which I doubt. So what's the holdup, Rika? Where are you?" She muttered to herself, worry settling in.
Deciding to text her, Kiara continued to eye ball the time, leaning her back against the wall opposite the stalls.
Two minutes had passed and no response.
Now Kiara was a breath away from switching into panic mode, her thoughts racing with possible scenarios that could have delayed Rika to the point where she couldn't text back in under 10 seconds flat like she usually does. Rika always answered her texts right away. She had such a quick response time that Kiara acknowledged this great feat by giving Rika an additional nickname to the several she already gave her. Flash Fingers was the name and Rika lived up to that name ever since its birth.
So the why hadn't Rika answered?
Unable to wait any longer, Kiara left the bathroom with her belongings and decided to call Rika instead. She walked out and exited the building while her phone just kept ringing and ringing. Then a few seconds later it went straight to voicemail.
Kiara felt her heart dip straight into her stomach, fearing the worst.
...Rika, where did you go? Why aren't you answering me?…
These thoughts and more rattled her brain and so Kiara continued to walk, bag over her shoulder, in the direction she believed Rika might have gone, which was towards The Hex. Kiara searched for her friend among the crowd of students hoping to spot a 5'1" woman in fiery red heels. There was no way you could miss a 5'1" woman in red heels! So where could she be—
Kiara stopped abruptly mid-step. She was confused then taken aback at the scene in front of her.
Near Building E in the Hexagaton, there was an absolutely stunning woman standing not too far from her with a face that belonged on billboards of major cities. Her hair was a silk, ebony blanket that covered a body that was the perfect female figure any woman could want. Unfortunately, this mystery woman's locks did not block everything, including that woman's lips on top of those of none other than Shuichi Minamino.
After a few seconds had passed, Kiara shock dissipated because why wouldn't he be making out with such a woman? She was beyond beautiful and he was free to do anything he wanted with whomever he wanted because he was not in a relationship with anyone….at least not a real one anyway.
Kiara could have smiled at her sarcastic thought, but she didn't have it in her. It's true, there was nothing concrete between Shuichi and herself because they were in fact a 'fake' couple, if you could even call them that. They were anything but. And fake was fake.
But even so, couldn't he have waited even a full 24 hours before 'fakely' cheating on her. Was she not even worth that?
"I guess not." She mumbled to herself.
Wow…this was doing wonders for her self-esteem.
Disregarding them entirely, Kiara refocused on finding her friend. To avoid them completely, she took an alternate route and began to walk down the pathway that would lead her to Building F. A few steps down, she heard her name being called out loud in a light manner then the second time it was reinforced but with much more force.
Was he out of his mind! No way in hell was she going to turn around and acknowledge the man that dared to call her name. Irritation bleed through her system and before she realized what she was doing she was doing it. Kiara raised her left hand and gave him the middle finger in honor of Rika because she was sure that in this exact circumstance she would have done the same thing. If not, then oh well.
Her hand down, Kiara continued looking for Rika, who was her top priority at the moment. Retrieving her phone, Kiara tried to call her. But then the shackles of death caught her wrist and pulled her back to a halt.
Large blue eyes looked back to meet bright green ones and her anger surfaced. Kiara yanked her hand right out of his grasp, pulling it back into her body.
Oh, did she have plenty to say to him, especially after what she just witnessed. But none of it left her lips. She just stared at him and he did the same back at her, not saying a word. And then unable to help herself, her eyes drifted quickly to his lips.
"Leave me alone." She commanded, turning away from him once she did so. He didn't listen of course and the next thing she knew he was grabbing her wrist again.
"Kiara, wait—"
"Did you not hear me the first time?!" She asked him out loud, angry and annoyed. Pulling her arm free she did not want him to touch her. "Leave me alone—"
"Shuichi! How dare you just leave me!" Then she looked at Kiara. "And who the hell are you?"
Kiara eyed the gorgeous woman who looked even prettier of close. Was that even possible?
"No one important, so I'm going to go now." Kiara gave them both a fake smile then turned to leave, walking away. And just when she thought she was good, Kurama grabbed her wrist for the third time.
She was fucking furious now.
"What is your freaking problem! Let. Me. Go!"
"No." He said blatantly, his grip on her stronger and his eyes full and serious.
Kiara couldn't believe it. "Have you lost you're—"
"Shuichi! Unhand her! Don't you see the girl wants nothing to do with you! Listen to her and let her go. I'm not done talking with you just yet."
Kiara eyes flew to the black haired beauty—who rudely interrupted her.
"Since when did swapping saliva mean talking to one another? Did this just become a new things or did I miss that era?"
The should-be-model stilled then shifted her bright lavender eyes over to Kiara. She glared, turning to face her.
Kiara mentally sighed. Yup, this was just what she needed right now…to be on another woman's hit list.
Ready to give Kiara a piece of her mind, the black haired beauty opened her mouth to do so. But suddenly her line of vision was blocked by a certain someone's chest. She looked up at Kurama, a mixed look of confusion and shock written all over her face.
"Fumiko, I'm done talking with you. So leave and never approach me again."
Kiara should have left. This was the perfect time to do so. His back was turned to and everything. But she had seen his eyes shift in color the instant the other woman spoke, just like they did yesterday. The second she saw the amber amongst the green she froze and her heart began to beat in rapid succession with every feeling of last night rushing back to the surface.
Was it truly possible for someone's eye color to change so rapidly with any given emotion? And even so, why did such a change continue to evoke such a reaction from her.
Apparently, Fumiko was used to it or just too upset to notice. She matched Kurume's glare head to head with a glare of her own.
"Why? So you can find a new play thing? Is she one of them? You're new—" She stopped spotting something in his eyes. Then her lavender eyes darkened in rage once realization hit her. "You can't be…You aren't! Are you interested in—"
In a blink of an eye, Kurama was right up in her face. "If I were you I would stay quiet and heed my warning because next time I won't be so nice. Stay the hell away from me and don't you even dare think about confronting her." Kurama turned and grabbed a stunned Kiara to walk away with him, his hand now firmly in hers. The continued down the pathway to Building F.
….Hold up! Hold UP! WAIT A GOSH DARN GOOD MINUTE! Was that? Did I just hear a growl of some sort from him!? Am I going crazy!? Because first the change in eye color, now this deep, scary growling? Ohhhh, Dear Lord, say it isn't true! Please say it isn't true! I'm losing my mind. That's it, I'm losing my mind! But we made a deal! If I get my butt into college, you keep me sane until I'm at least 42! 42 Lord! You're about twenty-three years too early!...
But the state of Kiara's sanity had to wait. Right now, she had another issue to deal with. Following a certain red head against her will, Kiara finally mustered the strength to pull her hand away from his iron clasp grip.
"Where the hell do you think you're taking me?" she inquired, her brows furrowed in anger.
Kurama stopped mid-step then he turned to her fully before saying, "I want to explain what happened."
"There is nothing to explain." Kiara began, checking the time on her phone then adjusting her bag over her shoulder. "I need to find Rika and then get to class—"
He took a step forward and reached out to her. "Kiara—"
"Don't!" She suddenly yelled, drawing the arm he meant to take against her body. "Stop grabbing me! Stop calling my name! Stop everything! You don't know me and I don't know you." She began, continuing to glare at him hard. "So let me quickly fill you in on something. Don't let this face deceive you okay. I am not stupid. Naïve, yes, but stupid? No. And what I saw back there was plain as day."
Kurama opened his mouth to interrupt, but Kiara cut him short. "I don't care to hear an explanation because quite frankly it is none of my business cause like I said I don't know you and you don't know me. So how about we leave it like that and go about our merry ways—"
"No." Kurama said, overpowering her voice at the very end. "I am not going about my merry way."
"Well too bad because I am." Kiara turned to leave, but he snatched her back against him.
Looking deeply into those sapphire gems filled with shock, he said, "You are not going to run away from me like you did last night. I won't let you."
Amber-green orbs made her catch her breath. It took a second for her speak their affect on her immobilizing. "I almost died yesterday because of you!" she started, "So I think I'm entitled to want to keep my distance."
"You're using that accidental fall as an excuse, Kiara."
Enraged she exclaimed, "I am not—"
"Was the kiss we shared that bad of an experience for you?"
Kiara looked away, needing a distraction, but he placed his hand under her chin and turned her head back to him.
"I need an answer Kiara."
"No you don't. I need to go to class. I'm going to be—No!" Kiara pushed him hard against his chest, the both of them stunned at what she had just done.
Her heart rate was pounding rapidly and her breathing was labored. Just then he bent his head down and tried to kiss her.
"Just leave me alone!"
She turned and left, making it to the side of the building. She couldn't believe he just tried to kiss—And without any warning, Kiara's back was brought against the building wall then came Kurama's lips that devoured hers within seconds with no mercy. His body pinned her tightly, wanting her to feel every reaction his body felt in reaction to their kiss.
Her shock gave him access he craved and he wasted no time. He inserted his tongue deep, swiping it against hers in a ravenous manner. Over her shock she fought with him to release her, but second his sucked against her the fight in her gave out. She whimpered against him, unable to take the onslaught of his mouth. And there it began. That indescribable feeling she so desperately feared and wanted to forget.
Her body lit up like a flame, on fire. She became sensitive and highly aware of him and the sensation he brought on her was too much for words.
Wrapping his hands around her face, he angled his head to the side in order to get in deeper. He continued to fight against her earning a deep throaty moan from her. He growled his approval, the sound low in his chest and she felt it, the entire sensation and suddenly her knees gave out, unable to support herself.
He separated from her, holding her against him while taking a breath. He looked down at her his gaze shifted on her lips which were now swollen. "I'm sorry. But I can't seem to leave you alone."
And as if those words were the spark to a nasty flame, Kiara eyes filled with raged. She suddenly pushed against him again and Kurama actually took a few steps backs this time. He looked again with wide eyes. Such strength? Where did it come from?
"Have to LOST YOUR BLOODY MIND!?" She yelled enraged.
Kurama smirked. "I think I might have." He replied more so to himself.
"Shut up!" Kiara yelled, slapping both her hands against his chest for the third time, sending him back with even greater force.
"You were not supposed to answer that question because it was already implied! How dare you kiss me after you kissed another woman 10 seconds ago! Who the hell do you think I am!?" At her last word, she tried for chest one more time, but he caught her hands and pinned them as well as her body back against the wall.
"Kiara, will you calm down and just listen to me—"
"Get off me! I don't want to hear anything it is you have to say!" She uttered back at him, fighting for her freedom.
"Fumiko and I aren't in a relationship." Just the mention of her name pissed Kiara off even further.
"But yet you were sucking her face dry 5 minutes ago!"
"She initiated the kiss and took me unawares."
"BULLSHARK!" Kiara bellowed in his face. "You're such a liar!"
"I am not. I am telling you the truth!"
"I don't believe you. But then against whether I believe you or not doesn't really matter because we are not in a relationship. I do not know you and I don't ever want to—"
He did it again. Kiara couldn't' believe it. He did it again.
Kurama kissed her, but this time his kiss was different. It wasn't so hungry like before. Instead it was calm and quite pleasant.
He lightly licked her lips in and Kiara shivered, a deep chill working its way up her body. When he continued to kiss her stomach clenched and moaned out her pleasure just like before.
Releasing her, Kurama moved his head back to take a good look at her. No longer was there any anger in her eyes. It was as if there had never been in the first place. But what replaced it had him confused.
"Kiara?"
"What do you want from me?" She asked in an empty whisper that pulled at his heart strings. "Can't you just leave me alone."
"I can't." He replied back.
Her brows furrowed in confusion. "Why not!"
"I just can't." He responded.
"That's not a good enough answer, Shuichi." So she fought to get away from him, trying for her freedom.
"I like you, Kiara."
Kiara stopped struggling and stared at him, eyes wide open in complete and utter shock.
"What?" She whispered.
"I like you." Kurama repeated.
"But you can't like me! You don't even know me! We only knew each other existed since yesterday! That can't be enough time for you to like me!" She rushed out.
"Actually, yesterday wasn't the first time we met. Remember, the tea incident?"
Kiara covered her face with her hands, which at some point Kurama released, and shook her head, denying his feelings. "You can't like me."
"Kiara, I do. Why is that so hard for you to believe—"
"You do realize that I'm black, correct?"
If there was anything in Kurama's mouth right now he was sure he would have choked himself to death. My goodness! Only she would say something like this at a time like this.
"Yes, I do." He grinned. "Do you?"
Kurama's grin grew even larger when her look became an evil glare. He could tell she wanted to slap that grin right off his face, but she kept her cool, her eyes watching him intently.
"Don't you dare be a Smart Alec with me, Shuichi."
"I'm not trying to be, I assure you. It's just I couldn't pass up the opportunity. And one's race is not an issue for me, never has been, never will be. So don't make that an excuse to deny to the both of us what I feel."
"You don't feel anything for me! You can't! Out of all the woman out there, especially those in your freaking fan club, why me!?"
Then in the most care free manner possible Kurama answered her with his own question. "Why not you?"
Kiara just stared at him. That was all she had the energy to do. And he met her gaze, never looking away.
"You're crazy." Kiara finally declared, breaking the silence.
Kurama smiled genuinely. "It seems you have discovered my secret." He teased.
"Shuichi, I—"
"Meet me at the Fountain of Lily[1] near the Zai Chi Mall[2] at 4:00pm this afternoon."
Kiara's brows furrowed in confusion. "What?"
"The Fountain of Lily at 4pm today by the Zai Chi Mall." And before she could say anything more, he took her lips in his in a slow kiss.
Stepping back, she followed his motion and got her breath, completely dazed. There they were. Those amber-green eyes staring back at her in all its intensity. With a smirk that could woo any girl into submission, Kurama whispered, "Don't make me wait," then departed.
Kiara watched him go. And when he was no longer in sight, she touched her lips and closed her eyes breathing in then breathing out.
"That didn't just happen. No, that didn't just happen!" Kiara mumbled to herself. "How could he just confess to me like that then leave me hanging! And this meeting at 4pm? What is this? This better not be a date! I am not going on a date with him! Ughh!—Wait, what?!"
The chime of the grand campus clock went off and Kiara frantically pulled out her phone from her bag to check the time.
10:00 am. Class had begun.
"GOSH DARNIT!" Placing her phone back in her bag, Kiara momentarily dismissed this morning's events and ran with all her might in the direction of her Biochem class.
