Day Nine

Pandora's Box: Sorrow

"I'll live with the loneliness.
But I'll never forget
I was never your best bet."

-Scary Kids Scaring Kids "Just a Taste"

She had blown her only chance and now she regretted it so damn badly.

Yeah, so he wasn't the most attractive guy and she could have anyone she wanted. And yeah, he was a bit gruff in appearance. But Marcus was the only guy who actually showed her that he cared. Fleur didn't deserve him.

She hadn't been too sober that night of the Yule Ball, thanks to her dear friends at Beauxbatons, and after a while she had gotten bored of her date, Roger Davies. Fleur had gone around the dance room, looking for a guy who looked uninterested because she had been in the mood for a bit of a chase. The Slytherin who had been sitting alone at one of the small tables had fit her quo perfectly. She had approached him, not even bothering to use her Veela powers because she had already known that he wouldn't refuse her. No one ever said "no" to Fleur Delacour.

But he had.

Marcus Flint, the dark-haired trollish Slytherin, had turned her down. Fleur had been a little bit offended but hadn't given up; she never let her prey go without a fight. But Marcus kept telling her to go away because she was too drunk or something like that. This only had sparked her interest even more and she had given it her all, still holding back on her Veela powers. But Flint didn't budge.

So she, in a last ditch effort, had used what she had inherited from her mother's family and the poor boy hadn't had a chance. Within minutes, she had been leading the way out of the Great Hall and her toy closely followed behind her.

The next day, at breakfast, the burly Slytherin had approached her, looking out of place. Fleur hadn't even let him get the words that he had wanted to say out of his mouth before she had scoffed at him and then turned to laugh with her friends. But the way his face had fallen when she had sneered had affected her in a way that she hadn't expected. It had made her, dare she admit it, feel bad.

So, after her friends had left the hall, Fleur had gone up to him to see what he had wanted. Marcus had spat out that he had just wanted to see if she was feeling alright after drinking all that she had.

Oh.

Fleur had been so used to guys just wanting that one thing from her that his words had caught her off guard. She had believed that he had probably wanted more of what he got the night before or, even worse, a relationship. She had never been asked if she was feeling okay…

But, again, she made a decision that she would later regret. She had snapped at him, telling him that how she felt was none of his business. Fleur hadn't wanted him to think that she appreciated his concern…

Now, she wished that she would have done things differently that night. She had gone through her fair share of guys after that night and not a single one of them cared about her welfare. She regretted treating that Slytherin like she had but, truthfully, she didn't think that she deserved him. Some girl out there was worthy of Marcus but it wasn't her. She was destined to go from empty relationship to empty relationship and it killed her to know that she could have changed her destiny that morning so many years ago.
