Chapter 20
Hi everyone! It has been 2 LONG years since I have last updated. I had a lot going on for a while and never had the time or inspiration to continue this story. However, I'm back and the creative juices are flowing once more! I really hope that you guys enjoy this long awaited update.
Last time:
"I don't know, nor do I care and I'm not going to make excuses or try to justify where this all came from. But know that it came," he said with an air of finality as he released me. "Now I am going to do rounds. Stay here, I can cover the whole train myself, and we both know you always find a way to get into some sort of trouble with someone and seeing that you're not necessarily focused on hiding your emotions right now and I can see everything in your eyes that makes for another reason why you need to stay. I will return soon, and I may decide to kiss you again since you like it so much," he said with a smirk and left.
This time:
While Draco was gone doing rounds, it allowed me some time to really think about some of the events of the past couple of days. The more I thought, the more I came to realize that Draco's words were not just words, but that he had been saying them with his actions for a while now. In addition to that, I also realized that, as a whole, I was happier. Not just with my new situation, or my friends, but with Draco. Despite everything that has happened this year, I realized that without Draco there to take away some of the stress, fear, or even there to watch out for me that I would have had an even tougher time adjusting to everything, and for that I was truly thankful. It was also a bonus that he was a fantastic kisser and changed my perception of the male sex entirely.
'Well thank you Princess,' Draco interrupted.
"Dammit," I said out loud somewhat frustrated. 'Is there any way for me to have even the least bit of privacy? Those thoughts weren't meant for you, Draco.'
'Of course not, Princess. Not when you're broadcasting your thoughts for all the world to hear,' he replied. 'Anyways, I didn't mean to intrude on your personal time. I was just checking up on you. You were very flustered when I left,' he said with a smirk.
'I'm not even thinking about that anymore Draco,' I thought stiffly.
"I know," he replied out loud walking back into the car, "You were just thinking about how happy I make you. Now before you get all flustered and embarrassed again I just wanted to let you know that after everything that has happened recently I think you deserve to be happy and the fact that I can contribute to that happiness brings me greater satisfaction than the simple fact of knowing that you are safe," he said as he sat down across from me. "Now we have a long train ride ahead of us and I would like to get some rest before meeting the excitement that our parents will exude upon our arrival," he said with a yawn. "Please, you should get some rest as well. If there's one thing I've learned living with you these past few months it's that you aren't the most agreeable person when you're tired.
When we arrived back in London, the first thing I saw when I got off the train was my overly excited mother. "There's my darling head girl!" She exclaimed. "Oh, how I've missed you so! I hope that everything has been going well so far this semester?" She asked anxiously.
"Of course mum, aside from the adjustment to my new house and identity, everything's been fine," I said blandly. "By the way, where's dad?" I asked as I looked around.
"He wasn't feeling too well so I made him stay home. I'm glad you didn't experience too much trouble at school by the way," she said as she looked over at Draco. "Oh! Draco by the way, your parents had some important business to attend to and were unable to make it here so they asked me to bring you back with us and they will arrive later on," she said.
"Alright," he said. "Ready when you are Mrs. Balthazar."
"Right, let us go then," she said as she began walking away.
When we finally arrived back at the castle, my father was waiting for us in the entrance hall. "Darling," he began. "How I've missed you," he said as he walked over to hug me. "And Draco, I trust everything has been going well?"
"Of course sir," Draco replied.
"Fantastic," my father began. "I trust you've been taking care of my daughter as well?"
"Of course sir, her happiness and wellbeing are my top priority," Draco replied.
"Good, very good. Now moving on, Kaia," he said looking at me, "later on when the Malfoys arrive we have some news to share with you and Draco. Until then go and relax, and don't forget to change for dinner. Draco there will be some clothes for you in one of the guest rooms."
"Yes sir," we replied.
For some reason tonight's dinner was a formal affair and my parents had my personal house elf pick out a beautiful light pink strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline and matching heels. To accessorize I was to wear a set of diamond earrings and matching necklace. My hair was done up beautifully in somewhat the same style as the one that I wore to the Yule ball. When I finished getting dressed and checking myself over in the mirror, I heard a knock at my door. When I opened it, I was surprised to see Draco standing in the hallway looking very handsome in a black tuxedo topped off with matching bow tie.
"Draco," I said surprised, "What are you doing here?"
"You look beautiful," he began, "and your father asked that I escort you down to dinner," he said as he held out his arm.
"Thank you," I replied blushing slightly as I took his arm.
"Your eyes have changed," he said. "They match your dress."
"Oh," I replied looking away.
As I did so he gently grabbed my chin and turned my face to look up into his. "Beautiful," he said letting go. "Shall we?" he asked as we began walking.
When we reached the dining hall both my parents and the Malfoys were already there waiting for us. "Children," Mrs. Malfoy began, "you look wonderful. Kaia so beautiful and Draco my handsome son. The reason we asked you to dress so formally tonight is because we have some very important news to share and afterwards we will be attending a party with all of the most influential families in the wizarding world. Your classmates will be there as well," she finished off.
"Okay Mother, now could you please tell us what this mysterious news is?" Draco asked somewhat impatiently.
"First," Mr. Malfoy began, "We would like to ask how the relationship between you two has changed, as it is obvious that it has."
"Umm we get along pretty well," I said hesitantly.
"From the way Draco is looking at you I would say that you more than just get along," my mother stated happily.
"Mum what does that have to do with anything?" I asked impatiently.
"Kaia, Draco," my father began, "the news we have to share with you is that you are betrothed and since you are both technically adults now, the party we will be attending tonight is to celebrate your engagement."
