Author's notes*

Okay so this is a re-re-write of Living with Kudo. I might change the plot as I go soooo I hope I still have readers haha. I've improved since the last time so don't worry.

Heiji P.O.V.

I can't wait to see the look on his face! It's going to be priceless! My heart is already racing from the excitement. I snickered to myself as I glanced down at my wrist watch. School starts in less than half an hour. I glanced out the taxicab window and smiled when I saw his school only a few blocks away.

"I'm coming for ya, detective of the East,"

Living with Kudo

Shinichi P.O.V.

"She's what?" I asked Ran in surprise and disbelief. Her parents are supposedly getting back together after ten years of being separated. From what Ran told me, her dad basically begged Erie to move back in. Though I give it a week or two, Kogoro can be a rough person to get along with.

"Moms moving back in!" Ran squealed in excitement. "I'm so excited! We'll be one big happy family again,"

"Right..." I said, averting my eyes towards the window. I really doubt her family will be as happy as she thinks. Someone will probably die from all the arguing and fighting that is soon to come. I watched as grey clouds began to hover over the school and cover the sun. Oh, oh, I forgot my umbrella! Oh well, I'm sure Ran brought hers.

"What?" Ran asked, cocking her head closer to see my face.

"Oh nothing," I said, moving away from her while rubbing my right hand over one of my tired eye lids. I didn't have much sleep last night. Professor Agasa had kept me up all night, showing me a bunch of different experiments and gadgets he has made. They were cool and all, but even a guy needs his beauty sleep.

Just then, Ran walked in front of the window I was staring out at. She crossed her arms and raised her left eyebrow. "What?" she asked again, annoyance in her tone.

"Nothing," I said again with a shrug of my shoulders. "I just think that things will be very… interesting,"

"Interesting?" She questions. "Interesting how?"

"Well…" I started, "your dad can be a handful."

"What do you mean by handful?"

"Well he's an alcoholic, he doesn't pick up after himself, he likes to drool over woman, he worships pop Idol Yoko…" I continued, counting off her father's flaws with my fingers.

"I'm sorry-" I heard Ran say in a scary voice. Before I had time to react her fist already slammed itself down on my desk. "-what did you mean by handful again?" she asked, with a threatening smile on her face.

"Ha! D-Did I say handful? I meant-" I stammered before the school bell rang, indicating that 1st period of class has started. A sigh of relief escaped my lips. "Sorry Ran, I guess I'll have to tell you later!" I apologized, smiling a big cheeky grin at her. She glared hard at me before removing her fist from my desk. In case you were wondering, yes, Ran did manage to leave a dent on my medal desk.

"Next time that will be your face!" She warned before making her way towards her desk, which was next to mine.

Just as the last student rushed into class, our English teacher, Ms. Jodie Starling, walks in. "Everybody, take your seats," she said happily in her thick accent. Everyone in the room settled down in their seats and soon enough the class remained silent. Waiting a moment or two, making sure her class was in order, Ms. Starling announced, "okay everybody, get ready for this because we are going to have a new student!"

"Great, another new kid," I said plainly.

"Don't be mean Shinichi," Ran scolded, nudging my side. "You don't even know them and you're already becoming his first bully."

"I'm just saying it's strange to have four students and two teachers transfer here all of a sudden, and now there's another kid transferring in? I think something's up," I explained. Not long after second semester started, these students and teachers decided to come transfer to my school. I get that students transfer because they want a better school with more academics and teachers want a higher paying job, but they all transferred in at the same time. Plus, this is a pretty hard school to get into, not saying that they look incompetent. I don't know maybe it's just my paranoia, or detective instincts, kicking in.

"If you don't mind, Mr. Kudo, I would like to introduce our new student to the class," Ms. Starling said, her smile never leaving her face. "Especially since this new student is very similar to you."

"Wait, what do you mean by similar?" I questioned, raising a brow.

She winks at me and giggles. "He is a nice, very tan, boy who came all the way from Osaka," she said while pushing her glasses closer to her eyes.

"Osaka?" Me and Ran question at the same time. She's not talking about him, right?

"Yes Osaka," Ms. Starling confirmed as she walked closer to the door. "He's won championships in kendo tournaments and his father is the chief of police in Osaka Police District," she explains, putting her hand on the sliding doors handle.

"Chief of police?" I questioned. Everyone in the room began to whisper among themselves, questioning who this new student is.

"Shinichi," Ran whispers to me. "Do you think she's talking about, Heiji?"

"Hattori?" I questioned as my heart skipped a beat. "No, it can't be," I tried to convince myself and Ran. A swallowed the lump in my throat. It can't be Heiji, and even if it was, why am I reacting this way? Why am I so nervous?

"You all probably heard of him as-" she began as she opens the door for the mystery kid to come in, "the detective of the West."

My heart raced and butterflies began to bounce around in my stomach as Heiji Hattori enters the class room. My eyes widen in disbelief and shock. "Hattori," I said as he gave a toothy smile to the class.

"Please, call me Heiji," he says, running his hand through his hair in a show off manner. Some of the girls in the class squealed in awe, saying things like "oh my god its Heiji" and "he looks so hot in our school uniform." I scanned his body from his head all the way down to his toes. He was wearing our school uniform. Well I guess that confirms it, Heiji has transferred in to our school… did he get taller since the last time I saw him? "Kudo, Ran!" he yelled when he finally spotted us, "it's been a while." His eyes met mine and I swear I saw his smile grow bigger. I shot him a glare before averting my eyes away from him. I could feel my face growing hot for some reason. Why am I blushing, and why did he transfer here?

"How could you have forgotten your umbrella?" Ran scolded as she opens hers and puts it over our heads.

"I forgot to check the weather report," I pouted, scratching the back of my head. "And it looked like it would stop raining around 6th period, I didn't think it would pour harder instead."

"You're so careless, and you say my dad is a handful," Ran grumbled that last part to herself as we began to walk out of the school.

As we walked through the rain, my mind couldn't stop thinking about Heiji. We had most classes together but we didn't have a chance to talk do to the fact that he was surrounded by a large number of girls. Cocky bastard kept bragging about the big cases he's solved back in Osaka. He practically had the girls drooling all over him… not that I have a problem about it.

"So why do you think Heiji decided to transfer to our school?" Ran asked, breaking me out of my thoughts.

"…Who knows," I said, putting my hands in the back of my head. "He probably got competitive again and wanted to prove that he's a better detective-"

"-That's not a very nice thing to say to your new classmate," Heiji suddenly said, though he said this very close to my ear. I could feel his hot breath ghostly touch my skin, making the hairs in the back of my neck stand. How was he able to catch up to us, and why is he so close to me?!

Ran and I stood at our tracks. "W-would you get off me please?" I huffed, pushing the tan detective away from my flushed ear. "What are you doing here?" I asked glaring at the smile he had on his face.

He backed away from me, with an umbrella in his hand. "Hey, can't a guy hang out with his friends?" he smirked.

"Hi Heiji!" Ran greeted, smiling up at him. Yup, he's definitely gotten taller.

"Hello there Ran! See Kudo? At least Ran is kind enough to greet me!" Heiji sighed, shaking his head disapprovingly. "How do you expect to be a great detective if you can't even greet others-"

"-What do you want Hattori?" I half growled, trying so hard not to just punch him in the face.

"What?" Heiji asked, scooting closer to me. He snaked his arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer to him. "Not happy to see me?" he smirked.

"No," I said coldly, making him pout childishly. For some reason my chest fluttered up from seeing that pout. Ah, something is wrong with me!

"Shinichi!" Ran scolded, as Heiji removes his arm from my shoulder.

"How cold," Heiji says dramatically as he puts his hand over his chest. "And here I thought that going to school with you guys would be an amazing experience,"

"Whatever," I said, looking away from him. "We should get going, the rain isn't going to clear up soon," I told Ran, tugging at her arm. Doesn't she get the hint that I don't want to be around him? I need to figure out why I'm acting this way before I say or do something stupid.

"Okay, okay!" She huffs, yanking her arm back. We turned our backs towards the tan detective and continued our walk towards Ran's house. Heiji decided to follow closely behind. He's like a lost puppy following its owner, it's annoying! "So Heiji," Ran began, "Why did you transfer to our school all of a sudden?"

"Can't a man visit his friend?" Heiji asked.

"Nope," I said plainly.

"Stop being such a downer Shinichi," Ran scolded.

"Hehe still cold as ever," Heiji laughed. I'm not always cold! "I actually came to Tokyo because there have been reports on missing people," Heiji explains. "I thought I'd lend you a hand Kudo,"

"Thanks but no thanks Hattori," I said as we stopped in front of Ran's house. "I'm fine looking for the missing people myself, I don't need your help."

"Oh come on Kudo, I just want to help," Heiji said as me and Ran turn to face him. He had puppy dog eyes and a pout on his lips. My stomach was filled with butterflies once again.

"But what about Kazuha?" Ran asked, referring to Heiji's childhood friend. "Did you tell her you were coming here?"

"Kazuha? She was the one who told me to help out," Heiji explains. "Besides, she doesn't need me to rescue her from trouble anymore, now that she's dating Yuki," he says with an annoyed expression on his face.

"Oh, so that's why you left Osaka," Ran chuckled, covering her smirk behind her hand. My chest tightened. So did he leave Osaka because he didn't want to see Kazuha with another guy?

"No! It's nothing like that baka!" Heiji tried to convince, blushing madly. "I just came to help out!"

"Sure, whatever you say," Ran giggled. "Well I gotta go now, want to borrow my umbrella Shinichi?" Ran asked me.

"He doesn't need one," Heiji interrupted as he pulls on my arm to stand beside him. "I'll walk him home!"

"What?" I exclaimed. "I rather get wet!" I said, tugging my arm back. I turned away from him and began walking away, letting the rain pour down on me. "See ya later Ran!" I said as I walked towards my house.

"Hey wait!" Heiji called from behind as I walked faster.

"What?" I asked annoyed, stopping on my tracks as Heiji puts the umbrella over my head again.

"Why are you so angry at me?" Heiji asked giving me a confused and hurt look.

My face softens at the sight of his face. "...I'm not angry," I said as I began to walk again. Heiji walked close beside me with his umbrella covering us both. "I'm just tired from lack of sleep," I said, rubbing my temples.

"Oh," Heiji says as he smiles a softly. "I thought that seeing me at your school pissed you off or something." My face felt like it was heating up when I saw his sincere smile. "Are you okay?" He asked, noticing my blush.

"Yeah, I'm okay," I said plainly, having on my poker face. Why am I acting like this?

"Good," He said. "Hey, can I ask for favor?"

"...Sure, knock yourself out," I hesitated, noticing that my house was a block away.

"Can I stay at your place for a while?" he asked.

"What? No!" I nearly shouted.

"Oh come on, please!" he begged, clasping his hands together, nearly dropping the umbrella. "I'll be good!"

I groaned, arguing with myself internally whether to let Heiji live with me or not. What are the pros and the cons? Well first of all he's my rival!.. Then on the other hand, he can probably help me solve the case of the missing people. "…Why can't you live with someone else?" I asked annoyed.

"You and Ran are the only people I know here," he explains as we stopped in front of the gates of my house. "Please let me stay here, just for a little while," he begged, pouting his lips and making puppy dog eyes. My heart began to race again as I stared into his warm eyes.

"...Fine," I sighed, defeated.

"Alright," he smiled. "You won't be sorry!"

"But if you get on my nerves, you'll be sleeping outside," I warned as I pushed open the gate.

"...Okay," he frowns.

"Where's your luggage?" I asked as he walked through the gates.

"It's inside," he said with a big grinning.

"Inside, where?" I asked as I pulled out my keys to open the door.

"Inside your house,"

"What?" I exclaimed. "How did you get inside my house?" I asked as he closes the umbrella.

"Dr. Agasa let me in through the back," he smiled as I stare at him in disbelief. Living with this guy is going to be very stressful.
