Day Six

"I'll keep dreaming

Not another word, sweetheart

Nothing is perfect but it has to be someday

So I'll keep dreaming

We have to be someday"

-Chiodos "To Trixie and the Reptile, Thanks For Everything"

They could have been perfect together.

Maybe he wasn't as wealthy as him, maybe he wasn't as handsome as him, maybe he didn't know what to say at the right time like he always did but that didn't make his love any feebler. No, if anything, he loved her more than Malfoy ever could dream of loving her. Barty didn't have anything or anyone else to share his love with and so he gave every last piece of it to Narcissa. Lucius, on the other hand, loved his family and, more than anything, himself so he couldn't devote the quantity of love to that princess.

It was true that Barty was a little more than a bit rough around the edges – anyone could see that. He didn't have the easiest home life, though. He wasn't cooed over and pampered by his parents like Lucius was. No, Barty was a lone solider, a lost boy. Sure, his mother loved him but she was just as tied up in work as his father so he never saw her. She was never around to praise him or let him at least know that she cared. Barty had never been shown how to express how he felt and so maybe his words didn't always come out the way he had intended. He had no idea how to show Narcissa how he felt and that gave Lucius just enough time to woo her.

Barty always expected Lucius to take a fancy in the youngest of the Black sisters. Narcissa and Malfoy were practically a pair made in heaven – their golden locks, their noble looks, their shining eyes. They were like a box set, matching one another. Both Narcissa and Lucius were reserved and proper people; always they worried about what people would think about them. Barty was wild. He had no boundaries and even if he had, he would've crossed them. He paid no heed to rules or laws because he wanted to break as far away from his damn father as he could. Barty could have shown Narcissa a whole new life, he could have led her out of her comfort zone but he never received the chance.

Barty had never been good enough for her. He had only been a knight when she had wanted a prince like Lucius. Barty had never given up hope, though. Even now that Narcissa took the name Malfoy and became the golden queen just like she had dreamed about, he still loved her. He couldn't give up because he had used up all of his love on her… Maybe someday she would tire with her perfect fairytale story and go on a search for an adventure; maybe someday she would realize that she had been mistaken and really wanted a knight instead of a king. When that day came, if it ever did, Barty would be there, and until then, he would just keep on dreaming.
