Author's Note: Just a little one-shot. More of a quick drabble. Maybe there'll be a sequel. Maybe.

Skate

Frightened. That's what she was. She'd seen how high Storm Riders flew on these things, and she saw how close to death they always got. All because of these Air Treks. But she had to do this. She finished lacing up the motorized skates, and calmed herself. Then, grabbing onto a very low-hanging tree branch, she hauled herself up.

Yayoi clung to the branch, refusing to put any weight on her skates; she had heard Ikki's tale of his first terrifying ride on ATs. Gently, very gently, she eased her weight onto the skates until she was finally able to let go of the branch. Okay. So far, so good.

She leaned forward slightly and there was a small beep; the motor started and she was rolling. She wobbled a bit at first, but eventually got the hang of it. Soon, she was skating around the parking lot in small circles.

Kogarasumaru was on the other side of the school, their usual training ground, so they couldn't see what she was doing, thank God. How embarrassing would that be? With a sigh, she rolled to a stop. This wasn't what she wanted. She wanted to be able to fly like the rest of them. How in the world did they get so high?

"Oi."

She whirled. Agito. "W-what are you doing?"

"That's what I should be asking you." The shark skated closer on his deadly ATs and circled her, scrutinizing her. She felt like she was shrinking. Agito stopped in front of her. "What are you doing?"

It took a couple of tries before she could finally form the proper words. "I want to s-skate like you guys." She watched Agito's face contort into an expression of amusement and she huffed in annoyance. "Geez, it's not that funny. What's wrong with wanting to skate like you guys? You can get so high up…"

Agito raised an eyebrow. "Do you really want to learn how to…'skate'?" Why did it sound as though he didn't like the word "skate"?

Nonetheless, Yayoi nodded.

Agito sighed and reached for her. She didn't blink as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Do you want me to teach you?"

Yayoi grinned. She had been planning to ask him herself, but then wondered if she'd be a bother. So she'd decided to learn alone. Then again, if he was offering, then why not take it? "Yes."

Agito smiled and brushed his lips against her cheek. "Then I will teach you. But don't blame me if it's too hard. To be able to 'skate' as high as us takes time." His eyes narrowed and he added, "But I'm pretty sure that you should be learning how to tune me instead of wasting your time with ATs."

"So you want to get rid of me?" Yayoi sang. She turned and rolled away, knowing exactly how to pull the Fang King's strings. A strong, warm hand closed over hers, and then an even warmer pair of lips descended on hers.

"I never said that," Agito growled, peppering her face with light kisses.

Yayoi grinned and laughed, but her laugh was quickly turned into a terrifying shriek as her boyfriend leapt up into the sky with her in tow.
