Also to be noted, this does contain spoilers for the series finale. I know it's been a while since it aired but I don't know how many people have seen it.

So without further a due... I give you...

What If: Will found out that Emma was the one who drew the heart over his picture in the yearbook.

McKinley High School was a mess.

The school had let out for the summer and almost immediately the construction plans had gone through to transform the former general education public school into the Performing Arts School.

When the Board of Education had told Will that McKinley was being turned into a Performing Arts school he almost couldn't believe it.

For six long years he fought just to keep the performing arts at the school and had even failed a few times and glee had been disbanded, the choir room turned into a computer room.

However at the beginning of June he had received a letter from the school board, announcing his promotion as the principal of the McKinley Performing Arts School followed then by the plans to transform the school.

The school was a decent size but there were many rooms that needed to be changed to be better well suited to fit a Performing Arts school.

As principal of the new school, Will was in charge of over-seeing the project. He didn't need to be there every day for the construction work, but always on call in case there was an issue or a decision needed to be made.

Will still didn't truly believe it was happening until the first day of construction had started.

He had gotten up at the crack of dawn, a combination of the construction work starting early, his excitement over the project, and his near one year old son who always seemed to rise with the sun.

He got up and fed and changed Danny, talking to him as he made breakfast for himself. Danny always watched him intently with a smile when he talked - his son was smart and he was sure was starting to learn some words though he doubted he could understand most of what he said. The little boy was just happy to listen to his father's voice.

He sat at the table, eating his breakfast with Danny in his high chair across from him.

Emma entered the kitchen just as he was done eating, which allowed him to go get changed while she stayed with Danny.

He showered and changed into an old pair of jeans and a gray t-shirt, knowing that although he probably wouldn't be doing any of the construction work himself, he would be at the construction site.

Emma smiled at him affectionately as he walked back into the kitchen about fifteen minutes later. "Very work appropriate." She commented, her eyes twinkling. "All you're missing is the hard hat."

He chuckled as he walked up to stand the chair she was sitting in, his hands resting gently on her shoulders as he leaned down to kiss her cheek. "Yes, well, hard hats are not my usual attire and I don't think I have any lying around."

Emma giggled and slipped her hand over his, squeezing it gently.

"Are you ready for today?" She asked as he came around to sit on the chair next to her. "Are you ready for all of it, Mr. Principal?"

A grin split across his face and he shook his head. "I still can't believe it's all really happening. My dream was always just to keep the glee club alive and thriving - national champions at best. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that we would get a performing arts school in Ohio - none the less have McKinley be that school. I keep waiting to wake up or for something to go wrong..."

"Will," She reached over to take his hand, "You can't think like that. Listen, you've got the Superintendent on your side with this. It will happen, Will and it's all yours."

He nodded, letting out a breath. "I know - it's all just happened so quickly, you know? It's still a little hard for me to get my head around it...and I guess I'm a little nervous about it as well. "He shrugged. "I'm a teacher and I love being a teacher, coaching and leading these kids but I don't know the first thing about being a principal...and of a brand new school? It will be up to me to get it off the ground, literally. It's... a lot."

"Yes, it is." She agreed and then smiled encouragingly. "Will, there is no one better for this position than you. From day one you have fought endlessly to keep the performing arts in the school and you care about your students. You have such determination and you are so talented, not just in your performing ability, but in your ability to come up with ideas on how to successfully run a glee club. You led the glee club into their first national championship win. This new position, it will be challenging for you but I know you will give your everything to make this school a success."

It always amazed Will how Emma always knew exactly what to say to him to make him feel better. It was a gift she had - a way with words, her gentle, sweet tone, not to mention her adorable, round brown eyes that looked directly into his soul.

He smiled at her, wrapping his fingers around hers and bringing her hand up to his lips and brushing a loving kiss over her knuckles. "What would I ever do without you?"

Her face lit up in a smile and her cheeks flushed a bright pink.

They were interrupted then by a high-pitched squeal of a laugh - a sound both parents had committed to memory as one of their favorite sounds.

They turned in sync to their son sitting across the table to find him picking the few pieces of cereal puffs Emma had given him off his tray and throwing them to the floor.

"Daniel!" Emma scolded and Danny froze, looking over at his mother, his tiny fist raised in the air as he prepared to throw another piece to the ground.

He looked at his parents, both giving him stern looks and he flashed a smile, laughing again before he shoved his fist into his mouth, eating the cereal puff.

Will looked down at his lap, to hide his amused smile from his son as Emma sighed quietly and got up, walking over to pick up the pieces Danny had thrown to the floor.

Danny leaned over to watch what his mother was doing on the floor with wide, curious eyes and then clapped his hands together, squealing happily as she rose back to her feet.

He threw his arms out, reaching eagerly for the collection of cereal puffs in her hand.

"No, Danny." She told him. "These are dirty now. We don't eat the ones on the floor."

He looked up at her, his arms still in the air, staring at her blankly as he tried to understand the words and sucking in his lower lip.

He dropped his hands and made a small noise of protest as she walked away from him to throw the cereal out.

As Emma then proceeded to the sink to wash her hands, Will watched Danny's reaction and noticed the tell-tale signs of an on-coming cry.

His face slowly fell, his lips moving to a pout, his round eyes glistening with tears and the slightest of whimpers coming from his throat.

Will quickly rose from his seat and walked over to his son, gathering the rest of the cereal puffs that were scattered around his tray and pushing them into a pile in front of Danny.

"Danny, look." He tapped on the tray and then picked one up between his fingers, holding it out to him. "You still have more - you can eat these."

Danny watched his father's every move, his lips quivering and after a few sniffles he reached out and took the cereal piece from Will, slowly moving it toward his mouth.

He garbled out a couple more whimpers as he put it into his mouth and as he blinked a tear fell out of each eye, rolling down his chubby cheeks.

Then he spotted the pieces still left in front of him and his quiet whimpers turned into soft squeaks of joy, the smile returning to his lips as he grabbed another and shoved it into his mouth.

Will let out a little sight of relief, grateful they didn't have to deal with a tantrum that morning.

"Crisis averted." Will muttered as Emma came back to stand beside him and she too smiled in relief.

Danny looked to his mother as she came back into view and picked up another puff, letting out a noise as he offered it to her.

She smiled at him warmly and shook her head. "You eat it, baby."

Happily he obeyed, sticking his hand into his mouth and pulling out a string of drool as it left.

Emma's nose scrunched at the sight and she leaned over, using his bib to quickly wipe off his hand before he returned to eating.

Will watched the interaction with affection. Emma had come a long way in the few years they'd been together and especially since she became a mother.

The first few weeks were a little crazy dealing with a newborn, Emma's slight post-partum depression coupled with her panic attacks over the messes the newborn created.

However he was impressed with how quickly she adjusted and she still wore gloves every time she changed his diaper and fed him the messy jars of baby food and she still made that adorable scrunchy face whenever he excessively drooled over his food, fingers and toys.

Emma Schuester was a loving, caring mother despite her mysophobia and he loved her more each day they all spent together.

With her nose still scrunched, Emma was once again heading back to the sink to wash her hands, though not as long this time.

Will caught a glimpse of the clock on the wall and pursed his lips thoughtfully. He still had a little bit of time before he was told to be there but his excitement made him want to be there earlier.

He looked away as he felt a graze against his arm and found Emma once again at his side, smiling and holding his famous Superman lunch box in her other hand.

"You look like you are about to jump out of your skin, Will." She explained and handed him the lunch box. "Go early - see if anything can be done."

He smiled back at her as he took the lunch box. "I love that you know me so well."

She hummed lightly, her smile widening. "Well I am your wife and your best friend."

"Two great things rolled into one beautiful woman." He said and then leaned down to meet her lips in a sweet kiss.

"Have a good day, Will." she said sweetly, her hand sliding onto his chest as she smiled up at him once they parted. "You'll be fine."

"Thank you." He smiled, moving his hand to squeeze hers for a moment. "I'm not sure how long I'll have to stay but I definitely should be home for dinner if not earlier."

She nodded, smiling. "We'll be waiting to hear all about it. Won't we, Danny?" She turned to look at the baby who had now finished all his cereal puffs and was sucking on his fist, watching his parents intently.

Will smiled and released himself from Emma, walking the few steps back to the high chair and leaned down to drop a kiss to his son's forehead.

He brushed down a few pieces of wild ginger hair and Danny took his fist out of his mouth, looking up at his father his mouth open and eyes wide.

"You be good for Mommy, okay little man? No more of this throwing your cereal on the ground."

Danny let out a squeak of laughter, smiling widely and waving his arms up and down as if he had any clue what his father was talking about.

He turned back to Emma and gave her a final kiss goodbye before he left with a pounding heart but a spring in his step.

He arrived at the school to find that the construction crew had already arrived. There were a few trucks in the parking lot and a few workers were staring to put up a large fence around the property.

He pulled into one of the empty spots closest to the street and then looked around for the man in charge.

He was surprised to find that the Superintendent, Bob Harris, was there, standing on the front steps of the school with a few other men.

"Schuester!" He called once he spotted Will walking towards them and Will smiled as he picked up his pace and walked up the steps, meeting the group.

"Everyone, this is William Schuester he will be the Principal of the new school. As I mentioned earlier, I am only here for an hour or two at most, Will here," He clapped Will on the back with a smile, "Is the man in charge. Will, this is Randy." He motioned to the heavily muscled man directly to his right, "...he's the construction manager for this project."

"It's a pleasure to meet you." Will said as he shook Randy's hand, trying not to wince at the tight grip of the stronger man's handshake.

"Same to you." Randy nodded. "I've heard good things."

Will's smile widened, looking in surprise to Mr. Harris. "Really?"

He opened his mouth to reply, already shrugging his shoulders but Randy cut him off. "Not from him - my daughter went to McKinley...graduated a couple years ago.

Said you were the best teacher she ever had."

Will stood in agape for a second and then shook his head. "Wow...I...I don't know what to say. I am glad I was able to inspire her."

Randy nodded again and then motioned to the two other men standing beside him. "These are some of my men...Rob and John."

Will exchanged greetings and handshakes with them and then Randy continued. "We have a good team here...I promise your school will be in good hands."

"Great." Will grinned, clapping his hands together. "Where do we begin?"

Just as he suspected, Will would not be doing any hard labor...unless cleaning was considered hard labor.

The teachers were asked to clear everything out of their classroom on the last day of school, throwing out everything they didn't need and the janitorial staff took care of most of the rest after graduation.

About a month before, an architect had designed the new layout of the school, which Will and the Superintendent had to sign off on.

They spent the first half an hour or so surveying the entire school, comparing with the blue prints and marking off every room that would be transformed.

Some of the construction men were to start removing all the desks from the rooms that were to be altered or destroyed and Will...Will was sent to the library.

Once he stepped through the doors and switched on the lights, his breath caught. The librarians and some volunteer students had started packing all the books into boxes on the last few days of school so the shelves were bare, the tables and chairs had been pushed to the side of the room, the room filled with nothing but the boxes of books.

He had spent a good amount of time in the library - both as a student and a teacher. Sometimes it was the quietest place to go over his students' papers or come up with ideas for glee club.

He had been so distracted with the task at hand, being asked all these questions and making little decisions here and there, he had forgotten what exactly they were doing.

He was overjoyed at the thought of the new school but they were still ripping up the old school. His alma-mater and where he had found his dreams. So many memories were lined in these walls, spanning over 20 years of his life.

The room he stood in now come the fall would be one of the many choir rooms, as it was one of the largest rooms in the building. The new library would be moving to the other side of the building.

He blinked slowly and could almost see the transformation before his eyes, a small stage built against the far corner, a beautiful grand piano nearby, and music stands littering the room.

Then he blinked again and he was back in the deserted library and his heart both ached for the loss of memories and yearned for the memories to come.

He swallowed thickly and smiled to himself as he walked around the room slowly, letting every memory he had in this room flash through his mind.

There was one table still sitting in the far corner, untouched because it had been bolted to the floor. He walked over to it and brushed his hand over the wood.

This table was one of favorites to sit at, it was further into the library and not really many students liked to sit there but he found it quiet and peaceful.

One memory, a more recent one was suddenly very vivid in his mind.

Will sat muttering to himself, his brow pressed together as he wrote furiously on the notebook in front of him.

All around him were numerous books and pages, spread across over the entire desk. It was nearing the end of the day so there were not many students in the library to notice his madness.

He would take a break from writing to chew on the pencil, scrunching his face in frustration and grunting before he went back to writing, occasionally looking over at the various books spread open around him.

He was so involved he failed to notice someone walk up and take the seat beside him.

"Will..."

Her voice was so gentle and calm it barely caught his attention and he vaguely acknowledged her with a soft hum.

He only paused when she touched his arm and he slowly looked over to find his wife watching him in quiet concern.

Her very presence acted as a calming agent and he felt himself slowly relaxing as he let out a breath as he met her eyes.

"You looked stressed, Will."

He let out a heavier sigh as he looked back down at the notebook. "I...am trying to plan a lesson for next week."

"History or glee?"

"History." He said, his face twitching. "Not as fun."

She chuckled softly and squeezed his arm. "You are usually good at lesson plans."

He nodded. "I know but this time..." He shook his head. "Something just doesn't seem right..."

"Well read it to me." She said, leaning back in the chair with a smile. "I really don't know much about teaching but I can help where I can." She shrugged.

He smiled at her in relief. "You are the best." He resisted leaning over to kiss her and then gathered the notebook in his hands. He cleared his throat before reading his notes aloud.

"The Civil War began in 1861 when the baby starts eating solid foods at around six months of age-" He paused, furrowing his brow. "Wait."

Emma bit her lip, trying desperately to hold back the bubble of laughter that was threatening to escape. "Oh Will..."

He frowned, looking up from the notebook and back to the table. She followed his gaze, a smirk now on her lips as she leaned over, finding one smaller book lying on top of another.

She lifted the smaller book and read the cover, her brow lifting. "How to be a First Time Parent." Then she turned her amused gaze to Will and he smiled sheepishly.

"I forgot I was reading that one too..." He admitted.

She finally let a small laugh escape her lips and shook her head as she looked over the table. "Will...history books, parenting books and what looks like 20 sheets of sheet music." She placed down the book and took his hand in hers. "You are over loading yourself."

"Maybe but -"

"First of all, the baby is not due for another 5 months Will." She placed a hand over her barely there bump and his eyes flickered downward and for a second, allowed himself to smile at the thought of their first child growing inside his wife. "You have plenty of time to read up on it."

She pushed that book to the side. "Your first priority is this History lesson."

He nodded, turning his attention back to the books. "You're right...I know you're right but then there's glee club and there's Sectionals to think of..."

"Just focus on one thing at a time, Will. Don't try to do everything all at once." She stood up and walked around his other side, stacking all the sheet music into one pile.

Then she smiled at him, moving the history books in front of him. "Plan the lesson, Will. You'll be done before you know it and then you can work on glee and when we get home - then we can talk baby talk."

He let out a slow breath and nodded to himself, a smile twitching at his lips. "You always know what's best for me, don't you?"

"I do try to." she smiled. Then she looked around and at finding no peering eyes, leaned down and dropped a light kiss to his forehead. "Don't work yourself too hard, okay?"

"Okay." He murmured, smiling as he looked at her. "I love you."

She lightly touched the side of his face. "I love you too."

It was amazing how far they had come in a year and a half. His son had been born and was nearing a year old and he was the absolute light of his life (equal to Emma).

He had gone from being a history teacher at McKinley to teaching Vocal Adrenaline at Carmel and then back to McKinley and finally promoted to Principal of the new performing arts school.

He was certainly grateful that Emma had confidence in his abilities to become Principal. He knew he'd never be able to do it without his own personal life organizer.

He smiled again as he tapped the table once more before continuing his journey around the library.

He was pulled out of his walk down memory lane by a call into the library, "Excuse me?"

Will weaved his way through the empty book cases back to the entrance of the library and spotted a few young men standing in the doorway.

"Oh hello." Will greeted warmly.

"We were told we had to move some boxes from in here?" A tall, blonde haired boy said.

Will opened his arms, gesturing to the boxes piled all around the library. "Have at it. Most of them are going to go in the storage unit behind the school...whatever doesn't fit is being brought back to my house so you can bring it to the mini-van parked at the end of the lot. Actually...you know what, I'll bring it around the side entrance and we can use it to bring the boxes to the storage unit."

The young men nodded their understanding and Will left to do just that.

Transferring all the boxes of books to the storage unit from the library took mostly all morning - there were a lot more than any of them thought would be there.

In the end, Will had to fit 8 boxes of books into his car. It had took some pleading with Emma to let him take them home - though he promised he'd keep as many as he could in the car and the rest in the storage closet out of her sight.

He stayed for another few hours after lunch to continue to help cleaning out what was left in the classrooms.

Around 4 p.m. Randy told him that they wouldn't really need him for the rest of the day and they were all clocking out at around 5 anyway.

Will had actually had fun cleaning out the school but he was beginning to feel the exhaustion take hold. He still considered himself to be in relatively good shape but he wasn't as young as he used to be and a full day's work caused a strain.

So he was relieved when Randy dismissed him and he bid goodbye to the rest of the staff, said he'd be back tomorrow and then headed home to his family.

Will pulled into the driveway about ten minutes later and let out another sigh of relief as he turned off the car.

He looked over his shoulder, pursing his lips at the boxes piled everywhere they could fit. He knew he couldn't leave them all in there but he didn't exactly feel like taking them all in now.

He got out of the car and opened the side door, pulling out just one box, the one sitting on the seat beside Danny's car seat.

He would do the rest later, he told himself and closed the door, shifting the weight of the box under his arm.

"Hey Em, I'm home!" He called as he walked in the door.

"We're in here, Will!" He heard her response from the living room and walked towards the sound, the box still secure under his arm.

A smile broke across his lips as he spotted Emma rested on the floor with Danny beside her, playing with his toys.

Emma smiled back at him and rubbed her finger against Danny's chubby little thigh, cooing, "Look who's home, Danny."

Danny looked up, spotted his father and then let out a squeal of delight, throwing his arms in the air. "Da!"

Will's smile grew impossibly wider and he quickly placed down the box and then crossed the room to scoop Danny into his arms.

Danny let out a peel of laughter as he was lifted above Will's head and then brought to his chest and tickled mercilessly.

Will chuckled as his son flailed all his little extremities, squealing in laughter in response to the tickling.

Will ceased after a few seconds and finished off with a kiss to the side of his head.

"Were you good for Mommy, today?" He asked the little boy.

At the sound of her name, Danny twisted his body and pointed at Emma. "Ma!"

Will chuckled again and lifted his brow inquisitively to Emma. "I'll take that as a yes?"

Emma smiled softly as she rose to her feet. "Well as good as a one year old little boy can be."

Will turned a look down at his son who he knew could be a trouble maker when he wanted to be but at the moment was sitting quietly and contently in his arms.

Emma stepped up to stand in front of Will and leaned in to kiss him in greeting. A smile tugged at the corner of their lips as they lingered there knowing what was coming.

Sure enough, just a few seconds later, a little hand shoved against their joined lips accompanied by a small little giggle.

It was something that happened as soon as Danny had gained full control of his arms. He was in Emma's arms when Will had come home from work one day and as they kissed each other a little hand shot out, pushing against their cheeks and lips as he giggled.

Will wasn't sure why their son had so much fun interrupting their kisses but it was something they found adorable and so they made a point to do it often.

Then again as usual, Will turned his head, laughing in return as he captured Danny's little wrist and placed a kiss to his son's open palm causing another round of giggles.

Danny then lifted his other arm toward Emma and Emma repeated the action, lightly pressing her lips to his open palm and Danny giggled again, then clapped his hands together joyfully.

With every smile on his little pink lips and every joyful laugh, Will fell in love with his son all over again.

"So how was it, your first day?" Emma asked, bringing his attention to her.

At the thought of work, Will could once again feel the slight ache in his body but he smiled. "It went really well. Mr. Harris was there but he said he wouldn't be there very often and that I was in charge. The construction crew are full of great, hard working men and we got a lot done for the first day. The school still needed to be cleaned out so that's we really did today. I brought home a few boxes of the library books," he nodded behind him to the single box, "that's just one - there are seven more in the car."

Emma tilted her head to view the box behind him, stared at it for a moment and then nodded to herself, a silent of acceptance of its presence in her home.

"I told you everything would be fine." She said turning back to look at him with a smile.

He smiled in return, nodding once. "You were right, as usual. It is only the first day though - once the construction starts I'll be completely out of my element."

"Well that is what the construction crew is for...you just have to stand there and give orders."

"Yes...that's what I'm afraid of. What if I give an order that blows up the entire school?"

Emma's eyes widened slightly. "Are you planning on using dynamite?"

"Er...no but there will be a wrecking ball at some point."

She huffed in amusement and slid her hand onto his chest. "As long as you don't operate the wrecking ball you'll be fine, Will. Besides, they won't let you do anything too dangerous."

Will nodded. "I hope not." They shared a smile and then their attention was brought back to Danny who was now wriggling in his father's arms.

Will dropped another kiss to his head and then placed him back on the ground. As soon as he touched the ground, Danny sped-crawled back to his group of toys.

He immediately started banging on his little toy piano, a grin on his face as he looked over at Will.

Will smiled brightly and clapped enthusiastically, always happy to encourage his son to play music, even if the clashing notes banged out by his little fists could hardly be considered such. "Very good, Danny! Bravo!"

He rolled the 'R' which caused Danny to erupt in giggles as he continued to play.

"He loves when you do that." Emma said, slipping her arm around his middle.

"I know, that's why I do it." Will replied, resting his hand on her lower back and together they watched and eventually joined Danny in playing.

That was until both father and son started to get a little hungry grumpy.

She knew when Danny was getting hungry because he would pause in what he was doing to pout, whimper quietly and pat his tummy. If he could catch one of his parents' eye he would pout a little more before returning to his present activity.

Will was almost the same but instead of pouting and whining, he would frown and grunt, also patting his tummy and Emma wondered if Danny had inherited this adorable reaction or had learned from watching his father.

"I think it's time for dinner." Emma announced after the second time Danny paused to pat his tummy.

Will visibly lit up and let out a quiet sigh of relief and turned to his son, exclaiming happily, "Food, Danny!"

Danny threw both hands above his head, squealing in delight.

Continuing with their family routine, Will made the dinner while Emma washed the dishes afterwards because while she trusted Will to cook she didn't trust him to completely clean the dishes, at least not to Emma standard.

This routine had only changed when Will would work until past dinner time, which had only been during his time at Carmel. Once he returned to McKinley, he was home by four or five at the latest except for the occasional time he would stay late to help with the glee club.

Still tired from his first day at work, Will decided to make something easy and something that they all enjoyed: pasta.

Once Danny started eating solid foods, it was one of the first things they introduced him to and he loved it.

He loved it so much in fact that even from the living room, where he stayed with Emma to distract him while Will cooked, he squealed at the sound of the pasta box being taken from the cupboard.

Will chuckled as he heard Emma's voice telling Danny to stay there until Daddy was done and then Danny's whine of protest followed a few seconds after by the sounds of the banging on the mini piano.

It took nearly an hour for them to finish dinner, between the preparation, and the eating and Danny once again attempting to throw his food on the floor, and the clean up of Danny's mess.

As Emma started with the dishes, Will went to the bathroom to give Danny a bath. About fifteen minutes later, after cleaning up a soaking wet bathroom from Danny's splashing, and Will changing both himself and Danny into bed clothes, he headed back downstairs with Danny.

Emma was still in the kitchen, finishing up the last of the dishes so Will once again went to the living room. He placed Danny down with his toys and the little boy once again started playing happily.

Will smiled at him adoringly and then spotted the box of books still on the other side of the room. He walked over to it and was going to put it away into the storage closet as he had promised Emma but something at the top of the pile caught his eye.

He fully opened the box and smiled at seeing the box was full of old yearbooks. The first on the pile was just from last year, he picked that one up and quickly skimmed through it.

He felt a slight tightening in his chest knowing it'd be the last year book for the William McKinley High School.

He put that one aside and rifled through the rest, pausing at one in particular.

A slow smile spread across his face as he pulled it out of the pile, reading the cover.

William McKinley High School - 2009.

He took a seat on the couch and just held the book in his lap, smiling fondly just at the cover.

2009 had been the year it started it all. True the glee club had been formed in the 2009-2010 school year so this book would not have the glee club pictures but the year still tugged at his heart.

He opened the cover and started to slowly flip through the pages, smiling as he came across a photo of a memory, or of a favorite student of his.

His throat tightened a little when he came across the sports teams, the football team in particular. Finn Hudson had a quarter page solo picture, being recognized as the first freshman to become a quarterback in McKinley history.

He last remembered him as a young man, unsure of what to do with his future, but determined to make it bright.

The boy in this picture was just a young kid, starting out in his high school career, unaware that he would become a friend and inspiration to so many.

Will let out a slow breath, feeling that familiar prick at his eyes whenever he thought of the young man that had not been just a student, but a dear friend and like a son to him.

Will tore his gaze away from the pages to glance over to Danny. The little boy whose middle name honored that young man and who never got a chance to meet his namesake.

Will shook his head and then turned the page before his emotions got the better of him.

He rolled his eyes when he came to the club photos and how Rachel, who of course had been a member of every club, had her face doodled on in nearly every picture.

He had nearly forgotten the year book fiasco and how Sue banned the glee club from the yearbook the following year and how he fought, and his glee club fought, to get at least one of them in there for recognition.

It had seemed so long ago but at the same time just yesterday that it had all happened. His glee kids were such kids and now they had all grown up and were living their own lives, pursing their dreams, becoming successful in all the ways he had hoped they would.

He felt his throat growing tight again at the thought and continued on flipping through the book before he really started to cry.

He finally reached the faculty pages and his smile grew bright once he flipped onto Emma's square. She had changed so much in the last six years and yet somehow she looked the same.

Those big brown eyes, that beautiful smile, her perfectly neat bright clothes, and her hair flipped just at the edges. His heart stuttered at the sight of her.

Emma Pillsbury, Guidance Counselor.

His eyes lingered on her name, feeling a swell of love and pride that her last name now read Schuester.

From the room behind he could hear the water turning off and Emma starting to put away all the dishes and smiled knowing she'd be joining him soon.

He stared at the photo for a few moments longer and then continued on.

The next few pages were all filled with pictures of colleagues and friends - teachers who had been put out of a job by the transformation of the school. However, he had made sure that the school board found them all secure jobs in neighboring school districts and they still kept several teachers employed for the new school, even though it would focus on the arts, general education was still required.

He finally came onto his page and let out a bark of laughter as he saw it.

"What's so funny?" Emma asked as she walked into the room behind him.

He let out another amused laugh as he lifted his hand in the air, waving her over. "Em, come here and look at this."

He heard her footsteps quicken and then a flash of red as she leaned over his shoulder.

He grinned as he turned to look at her, pointing at the heart drawn around his face in sharpie marker.

Emma's eyes widened and her breath caught in her throat. "Oh gosh..." She whispered.

"Isn't that great? I knew that sometimes female students had a little bit of a crush on me but I didn't realize it went this far. I wonder who it was..." He mused thoughtfully as Emma, still wide-eyed, slowly walked around the couch, biting her lip.

He gasped in realization and Emma nearly jumped at the sound, pausing momentarily to look at him. "Maybe it was Rachel...remember that time she had that crush on me the year I started glee? That was crazy."

Emma let out a breath slowly. "It wasn't Rachel..." She muttered.

Will furrowed his brow. "No? Are you sure? It...wait-" His face lit up. "You know who it is, don't you?" He asked eagerly.

A flush spread across her cheeks. "I ah..."

"You do! Oh come on, you have to tell me."

"I don't think-"

"If it was a student, one - you're not the guidance counselor at the school anymore, and two- whoever it is is long graduated by now...Emma please, just for curiosity's sake."

Emma cleared her throat, taking the seat beside him but keeping a little bit of distance between them as she wringed her hands together. "Well, curiosity killed the cat, you know, as they say..."

"And satisfaction brought it back." Will finished tapping her nose and then started pleading with his eyes.

She swallowed thickly, nodding to herself. "Well, it wasn't a student..."

"Really? A teacher?"

She bit her lip, nodding again, a deeper red now flushing her cheeks as she looked down at her lap. "It was me." She admitted quietly.

"What?" Will laughed out of shock (and amusement if he was honest). "You did this?"

"Yes. Oh gosh, Will..." She buried her face in her hands, shaking her head back and forth. "It's so embarrassing now..." She muttered, the words muffled by her hands.

She failed to notice that he was now grinning at her, his eyes dancing in amusement. "Emma-"

"I know!" She suddenly exclaimed as she rose to her feet again. "Will, I was always crazy about you, pretty much from the moment we met...but back then I was just stupid crazy. I mean you were still married to Terri and completely unavailable but still I tried whenever I could to spend time with you and you just made me feel like a school girl with a stupid crush so I acted like a school girl with a stupid crush." She sighed heavily. "And this was when you were going to leave...to become an accountant. My feelings had always been unrequited, but still I had hoped, and then you were leaving...and I was never going to see you again and my heart broke so yes, I drew a stupid little heart around your face because I loved you and didn't know what to do about it."

"Emma..." He tried again, his voice soft as he extended his hand out to her.

She bravely looked up to see the smile still on his lips and she sighed, slipping her hand into his and letting him lead her back to the couch.

She plopped down beside him, their thighs now touching, and a small pout formed on her lips.

He spread out the yearbook across both of their laps, looking down at it for a moment before focusing his attention on her. "Emma...this is the most adorable thing I've ever seen."

She looked him in the eyes, a hint of a smile tugging at her lips. "Really?" She asked quietly.

"Absolutely." He said sincerely, taking her other hand in his.

"You don't think its stupid?" She asked, her face scrunching up.

He smiled at her fondly, releasing one of her hands to cup her cheek. "Nothing you do will ever be stupid to me."

Her smile widened, her body relaxing as she leaning into his touch.

"And..." He continued, growing a bit sheepish. "I don't think I need to remind you of all the stupid things I've done."

Emma furrowed her brow, shaking her head quietly.

"Really?" He raised his brow and chuckled softly. "When you were with Carl?"

Emma's eyes widened, her lips forming a small 'o' in realization before she bit her lip to hide her smile.

"Yes..." He continued. "You drew a heart over my face when you couldn't be with me. When I couldn't be with you I bought a car I could not afford, performed Britney Spears with my high school students in front of other high school students, and made those same high school students perform one of the most inappropriate musicals in musical history...all in the name of love."

Emma couldn't help herself and a little laugh escaped her lips. "And had me seduce you in your classroom." She added.

He smirked at her. "From where I was standing you enjoyed that just as much as I did."

Once again her cheeks flamed up and a smile crossed her lips but she didn't deny it.

He chuckled and then shook his head slowly. "Emma, love makes you do some crazy things sometimes. It is nothing to be ashamed about - at least not what you've done." He squeezed her hands as she smiled at him.

"It was so sweet and innocent…In fact..." He held up one finger as he then reached behind to grab a sharpie off the stand next to the couch and then flipped back a couple of pages to her picture.

He uncapped the marker and proceeded to draw a perfect heart around her face.

"There." He finished the heart and turned to find her beaming at him. "Now we match."

"You vandalized school property." She giggled and his brow rose.

"You did it first." He teased back with a laugh. "And besides, this particular yearbook is so full of doodles, many of them inappropriate, that one more innocent little heart is not going to hurt it. Especially when it's around my beautiful wife."

She smiled warmly and then leaned in, brushing her lips against his in a short, sweet kiss.

Then she let out a soft sigh and rested her head on her shoulder, staring down at the old picture of herself. "Back then this was just one of my wildest dreams. I never thought I'd have it with anyone and certainly not you."

He pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head, slipping his arm around her shoulders and then resting his head on hers.

"We've been through so much...both of our lives were so different then."

As if to prove his point, the biggest change of all came crawling over to them and plopped down on his behind, throwing his arms up towards them and whining.

Both parents smiled at their son who they could tell had tired himself out by playing. Emma leaned forward and lifted him onto her lap.

Danny let out a small noise of delight and instantly curled up against his mother's chest, his eyes blinking slowly as he tried to stay awake.

Will's heart swelled as he looked at them, mother and son, matching red-heads and the loves of his life.

Back then, this was only one of his wildest dreams too.

He had been about to become a father but through Terri, a woman who he once had loved but their marriage was falling apart. Then there was Emma, a woman he could now admit he had feelings for, but couldn't dare admit it back then, even to himself.

After the fake-pregnancy and then the fallout with Emma not long after, he thought this would never happen. Yet there they were.

Emma was his wife, they had a beautiful son and he was about to start a new career doing his dream job. It was all a dream come true and he couldn't have wished for anything better.
