Next morning Kat wake up feeling happy, worried and tired, everything at the same wanted to go with Patrick to his deposition, although she wasn't about to pull her luck on with Walter. She was forgiven, but was very far away from forgotten. When she got down the stairs, Walter and Bianca were already having breakfast.

"Bianca, Cameron is coming to get you." Walter declare at the sight of his oldest daughter.

"What? Why?" Bianca asked in shock, even her cereal fell down the spoon.

"Kat can't take you."

There it was. He was going to take her to a convent.

"She has to go to the court. Patrick has his deposition, hearing or something of the sort." Walter said hiding his amusement at the sight of his daughters' shock.

"Who are you and what have you done with my father?" Kat asked not quite sure if she should believed her ears.

"As I see it I have two options. Option one, I don't let you go to Patrick's hearing and you will go anyway. and you might get another detention. Option two: I let you go, on the condition you come back to school as soon as it's over, and I make sure David's know about such a promise. I decided option two is better for my health".

"Are you sure?" Kat asked.

"Kat! Just say thank you, and don't let him reconsider" Bianca complained.

Both of them laughed.

Walter left first, births didn't obey any kind of schedule. Bianca followed next, so Kat was left alone, every time she thought about Patrick a very stupid smile would come to her lips. Normally she would be scared about something like that, but being in loved with Patrick felt familiar and safe in an odd way. He had prove himself and she wasn't about to protest.

The door bell rang and David was waiting for her. He was wearing a gray suit, he looked… let's say Kat understood Dani, far better than Patrick would approved.

Patrick was sitting in the back seat, as soon as he saw her, he smiled, although it didn't quite reach his eyes. he was worried. Kat took Patrick's hand among hers. He let a sight out.

The four of them, were in complete silence. Each one of them keep themselves to their thoughts.

Although calm didn't last long. Dani switched the radio station from jazz to 70's music.

"That's more likely". She said with her super model smile.

"Hey! I was listen to that." Patrick complained.

"And I was falling asleep"

"I'm the one who's going to be an orphan, I get to choose!"

"I'm the one with tons of homework, sorry but I win!"

"Selfish"

"Dramatic"

"Stop! The pair of you, just stop. Remember Patrick has to look responsible." David argued.

"Patrick? Responsible? Good luck with that." Dani said.

Kat was about to protest, it was Patrick's day after all. But then she saw him, he looked more like himself, his scary self, you may argue, however he was now the boy who told her "Because I found you interesting." Dani looked at Kat by the mirror an winked at her. Kat smiled.

"Dani is right David. My father used to think Patrick was some sort of criminal"

"Kat, I can hear you, I'm right here." Patrick said.

"Oh come on! That's hardly news." Kat said smiling.

"You…"

The four of them broke in laughter.

By the time they reach the court, Patrick seemed much more calm, he was drawing lazy circles on Kat's thighs, and she had her head resting on his shoulder.

David and Dani took out the wheelchair, while Kat helped Patrick out of the car.

"I thought you didn't need a wheel chair by now" Kat said.

"The doctor thought I should keep it slow for a few days, and David thinks it would make the judge sympathetic about my… situation." Kat found it completely out of character Patrick's slow and careful movements. He looked so fragile, she felt like hitting Patrick's stepfather herself.

"Come on, kid." David said taking the wheelchair. David drove Patrick, and both girls follow them. They reached an office.

"Now, Patrick, remember, just stick to facts, and you'll be fine. And most importantly you are not doing this because you don't love your mother, you are doing this to keep yourself safe."

Patrick only nodded.

"The same goes for you two. I might need you to talk to the judge. Only, if Judge Benson asks. So be ready."

Patrick and David entered the office. Kat and Dani tried to peek, but they only managed to see a bookshelf.

Both girls sat on a bench that was outside the office.

"I'm worried" Dani said. "I trusted David to pull Patrick's out of this, but I'm afraid about Patrick. He would keep his misery to himself, would get grumpy and hate everyone just because he is too proud to say he is sad. Kat, please don't leave him, he'll need you. Believe me."

"I will, don't worry." Kat looked at Dani, the girl looked as scared as she felt. "Dani, I'm sorry. I haven't been easy on you."

Dani smiled at her,

"Don't sweat it. I was prepared to hate you as well".

And thank you for the help in the car. So you fight him when he is sad?"

"Oh yeah! You know Patrick can't deal with sadness, anger is something different. Although I might stick to be the one making him angry, since you have some other, let's say weapons which I would die first than used them on Patrick".

"Weapons?" Kat ears had become red.

"I meant kissing, flirting and sex." Dani said like someone who is giving the ingredients to make a cake.

"I was afraid it might be so." Kat was trying to hid her shock. Not that she minded having to do all that.

"Oh! Sorry, I would have guessed that you weren't the sharing kind. It's a shame, I was going to tell you the story when David sneaked into my room." A playful smiled appeared on her lips.

"Are we really going to talk about boys, while Patrick's future is at stake?"

"Look there is nothing we can do now, except maybe bit our nails, which I rather not or we can make fun of the odd pair we are dating, and we might have fun."

"Ok, you win." Kat said rolling her eyes.

"Please tell me the story about how you father caught you in the act. Please, Patrick doesn't want me to know, and I'm sure I'm imagining far worst things than what it was."

"I doubt it".

Dani laughed during the whole thing. Kat started to see the fun in her they switched. Dani told her about David trying to imitate Romeo, then it was Kat's turn to laugh in tears.

"He fell in my room with the same grace a bag full of sand would have. His ego was the most affected one, I was laughing so hard. He wanted to feel young, but all he managed to do was to feel older than he already did."

"What happened next?"

"I need a few drinks to tell you that part."

Both girls laughed.

MEANWHILE

Patrick was hearing his deposition being read at loud. His mother and Joe were sitting there, with their own lawyer. He could listen to distant laughter, he knew it was Kat and Dani, he wanted to be with them instead of being here, watching her mother crying, and Joe playing the good husband card. He hated the guy. After finishing the rest of the text, the judge turned his eyes to Patrick and said:

"Are you sure you want to do this? There is no way back"

"I don't want a way back, I want a way out." Patrick answered.

"If that's how you feel, there is nothing left to do. I'll sign the papers. And from now on, Susan Platt will no longer be your mother, at least legally."

"Can I say goodbye to her?" Patrick asked.

"Sure, Patrick."

The judge, Joe and David left, Susan and Patrick alone in the office.

"I never believed you were capable of saying something like that." Susan said the moment they were alone.

"And I can believed you still defend him. You saw him pushing me."

"You are always attacking him. He reacts he is human."

"Is that the best answer he can deliver?"

"You think your father was so wonderful, let me tell you this, he was cheating on me. He took his students as lovers. Ask David if you don't believe me." Susan said with such a hatred that Patrick wondered how his mother didn't explode.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Your father was in love with one of his students, her name was Sybil. She was merely a girl. He was going to leave us, when I met Joe:"

"But he didn't left. That's the difference. Good bye, mother"

Patrick left and didn't look back. He was a little disappointed to be on a wheelchair, his exit would be much more dramatic if he was allowed to walk. Even though he acted more sure than he felt. David was waiting for him, while he chat with the judge.

"Have a nice life, my boy. You earned it". The judge offered his hand to Patrick. "Good bye, David. I hope next time we see each other in more agreeable circumstances."

Both men said goodbye, the judge left.

"How are you feeling?" asked David concerned.

"I'll live, I need to ask you something. Preferably alone"

"Sure".

David drove Patrick to a small office.

"Did you knew Sybil?" Patrick asked to David, as soon as the door was closed.

"Yeah, she was a friend of mine, she died on a car crash. Your father…"

"Was in loved with her?"

David only nodded.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Patrick asked feeling a weird kind of anger boiling inside of him.

"Honest, I didn't thought it matter. Your father was confused, yes. However, he always put your welfare before his feelings." David answered with his professional voice, the one which didn't admit any kind of replay.

"So he never…"

"Actually Patrick, I don't think it's up to you to judge him. He never let you, he loved you as we all dream to be love by our parents, so stop. It's just your mother trying to excuse herself like she always does."

"Your are right. I should have expected it." Patrick ruffled his hair.

"Yes, you should. But don't worry my friend, you are free now."

Can we get out of here?" Patrick asked, not wanting to be in that room for one more second.

Kat and Dani were sitting biting their nails. Kat saw Patrick and ran to hug him. Patrick kiss her head.

"Where the hell were you? We were going crazy." Dani said.

"Love, I doubt you can be more crazy." David cupped Dani's face. "But don't worry I love you anyway."

"You better. So everything is fine?" Dani asked.

"It will be. Now we have to take Kat to the school."

The group walk towards the car.

"I think I would like to go to the school" Patrick said.

"You can't Patrick" Kat said. Every eye turned to her. "You don't look scary on a wheelchair. It would completely ruin your reputation."

Everyone laughed.

"I'm joking I told everyone you got into a fight with a gang. One of them is in coma."

"Really?"

"Oh yeah, he is very badly injured."

"You two are the worst. Now let's get you to the school."
