Shikamaru refrains from reminding Neji it's his turn. Neji would just get bitchy, after all.
It's been 15 minutes since Shikamaru's last turn ended. He'd calculated his next move already and had taken to leaning back and watching the clouds.
Neji sighs. "I'm still thinking, be patient," he whispers in concentration. Shikamaru refrains from telling Neji he's not leaving so just take his time. Neji would just feel like he was being looked down on, after all.
Shikamaru shifts in his chair so he can rest his head against the back of it. His eyes float along with the clouds as the wind pushes them along.
There is a click as Neji finally moves one of his shogi pieces. "I might just beat you this time," he says confidently. Shikamaru refrains from telling Neji there's no chance. That would be going a little too far, after all.
Shikamaru lazes back up from his position in the chair, and flicks his eyes across the new situation on the board. It only takes a few seconds and he leans back while moving his piece. Neji groans.
Every small sound is distractingly loud to Neji as he scans the board. He mutters to himself as he moves another piece. "Stupid birds... shut up... trying to beat... Shikamaru..." Shikamaru refrains from telling Neji he sounds pathetic. Neji would just throw a fit, after all.
Surprised that Neji made a move that quickly, Shikamaru sits up and leans forward with his hand supporting his chin. He moves a piece with his free hand, then sits up straight and calls out. "I've won," with as little emotion as possible, so that Neji's temper won't flare.
Neji frowns. He knew he was going to lose, anyway, but his defeat and disappointment shows on his face. He makes no move to set up the board again, silently telling Shikamaru that he's finished.
"It's nice that I was able to play with you again. I do enjoy this," Neji says, his rich upbringing shining through again. Shikamaru smiles and refrains from telling Neji that he truly cherishes the moments they spend together.
It's all about the strategy, after all.
