Chapter 16
You Just Have to Rewrite What's in the Stars
Draco braced himself, his hands clawing at the tiled wall in the shower. Letting out a low moan as Harry pounded him from behind. He felt himself coming close to release but tried to will it away. He wanted to hold onto this for as long as possible.
"D-damn it Potter." He breathed between thrusts. All he got in response was a grunt, an increase in speed and change of angle. Draco was seeing stars as Harry was purposely hitting the bundle of nerves that pushed him over the edge. Draco let out another moan before he felt himself bucking his hips with his orgasm. If Harry hadn't been holding his hips as he thrust, Draco would have slid to the floor because his legs felt like jello.
"Draco!" Harry moaned as he came inside of Draco and leaned on Draco's back for a bit before slipping out of him. Draco felt Harry leave feather kisses along the back of his neck and shoulders.
"I'm not sure how I'm going to last without feeling myself buried deep inside you for the next several months." Harry sighed. Draco felt his face turn crimson. He wasn't sure how Harry was always able to have such an effect on him. He cleared his throat to put himself together.
"Then maybe you should have thought twice before you knocked me up." Draco turned to smirk at him. Harry reached out rubbed his right hand over his 5 ½-month rounded stomach. When he looked up to meet Draco's eyes, he felt himself suck in a breath at the intensity that shown in those beautiful emerald eyes.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." Draco heard him say before leaning down to kiss him.
"We should hurry before we're late to the appointment." Draco murmured. Harry let Draco finish his shower before proceeding to shower himself. After getting dressed and letting Harry he's meet him downstairs, Draco made his way down to their common room. Draco was so excited. Today's appointment was the gender reveal of their baby. Lost in thought about whether it would be a girl or boy, Draco failed to notice a presence in the room with him. He concealed how startled he was at having someone invading his living quarters, let alone someone there holding one of the photos of Harry and him.
"Who are you?" Draco demanded walking closer to the 'guest'.
The stranger looked up from the photo and gave Draco a foxlike smile. He placed the photo back down and turned to face Draco fully.
"You must be the infamous Draco Malfoy." Mocked the intruder slowly crossing his arms in a superior manner. Draco gave him an icy stare back, Malfoy mask firmly in place. No stranger was going to intimidate him, especially not in his own home. The dirty-blonde haired trespasser had an air about him that rubbed Draco the wrong way.
"Not that it is any of your business but yes I am…" Draco replied coldy. He brought his hand up to his face; he tapped his index finger on his check as he walked around the still unknown person. "But I go by Potter now in case you haven't kept up with the news." Draco mocked.
"Who could miss that news? Most of the world still weeps at Harry's choice, even if it was to escape the desperate wanna-be partners." Draco frowned at his comment. He crossed his arms frustrated.
"You have yet to introduce yourself. It's rather rude to come unannounced to another person's rooms. I won't ask again and will have no qualms at throwing you out of here." Draco sneered. The dirty-blonde chuckled in response.
"I am Gideon. " He gave Draco a mock bow, smirking at him. "At the moment I'm working with Harry at the ministry. Something came up and I needed to speak with him urgently."
Before Draco could say anything Harry walked in.
"I'm so sorry I took so long lo—Gideon! What are you doing here?" Harry asked surprised. He walked over towards Draco, placing a chaste kiss on his cheek. Draco noticed how Gideon's eyes followed Harry's every move. He watched as this Gideon person turned towards Harry and gave him a suave smile before turning into a guilty look.
"While it's always a pleasure to see you Harry, I've unfortunately come here on some urgent ministry business. Private business." Gideon made eye contact with Draco for a split second as he said, "Afraid we will need you to floo over now." Draco glared at him and slipped his hand into Harry's who laced their fingers together. He was fuming; as if Harry would make this "urgent business" more important than their appointment. The nerve. He felt Harry's hand release his own and slowly wrap his arm around his waist. At that Draco gave Gideon a smug look as Gideon frowned at Harry's unconscious gesture.
"I'm really sorry Gideon but I have a prior engagement that is rather important."
"I apologize Harry. I didn't want to come and bother you. I tried to handle as much as I could but some unexpected things just came up and they asked me to ask for your help." Gideon said looking sheepish. Harry sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"I'll stop by later today." Gideon smiled widely.
"Thank you Harry. I'll have to buy you drinks at your convenience." Harry chuckled as Gideon left. Draco gave Harry a glare.
"What?" Harry said clueless. Draco huffed at his obliviousness.
"Do you really think that you should be working today?! Will you leave right after I give birth as well?" Draco fumed pulling away form his husband.
"Draco stop. He said it was urgent and I warned them to only call on me if it was a last resort. You know I wouldn't be anywhere but with you and our baby when it's born. We don't haven anything else planned for the rest of the day. What is the problem?"
"You should be with me. Not with that blonde playboy." Harry chuckled.
"Draco…are you jealous?" Draco flushed and turned away.
"No. It's the principle of the matter." Draco murmured. He felt Harry come up from behind him and place his hands on his belly.
"I will be there for everything. It's our baby. I wouldn't dare mess anything regarding my child if I can help it. Also, if I remember correctly, you used to be a blonde playboy….to an extent. I took care of the rest." Draco turned to face Harry flustered.
"Harry!" Said person just smirked at him.
"Now let's go find out what we are having."
They walked to the infirmary hand in hand. Once inside, they headed towards their private room. Madame Pomfrey was waiting for them inside.
"Hello boys. Are excited to find out the gender of your baby?" They both nodded as Draco sat himself on the bed.
"Good. Lets just check the health of the baby first." She waved her wand around, nodding and smiling at the results. Then she frowned.
"What's wrong?" Harry asked worriedly.
"Well I'm not sure how to tell you this boys but congratulations, you are having twins."
They both gaped at her. Draco was the first to recover.
"Excuse me?"
"You are carrying twins!" She beamed. "Although is doesn't surprise me that something like this could happen since Harry is involved." She chuckled.
"Twins?" Repeated Draco.
"Twins." She confirmed.
Draco was stunned. How was he supposed to carry twins? Turning to Harry, Draco saw as his surprise turned to complete joy.
"Can we know their genders then?"
"Of course Mr. Potter. Now let's see." She waved her wand again in a different motion. Pink and blue sparks came out of the tip of her wand.
"Looks likes you're having a girl and a boy! Congrats boys! Now they are both very healthy. Good size and weight. Keep up the good work and see you for your last check up with me before graduation. Oh and no more intercourse until after the twins are born!"
They walked back to their room in a daze. Draco sat on the couch smiling until he watched Harry's tense form kneel down in front of him. He didn't want to hear what his husband had to say.
"I need to go now love. I'm sorry. But I am so happy about the news." Draco glared at him.
"Just go Potter." Harry frowned looking guilty. He brought Draco's left hand up to his face kissing the back of Draco's palm and then where his wedding band was. Draco's heart swelled at the gesture.
"I'll finish as quick as I can and be back." Draco 's glare turned into a pout. Apparently Harry took that as acceptance because he leaned up and kissed him briefly before heading to the fireplace to floo out.
…
The weeks that followed the twin's revelation and the Umbridge scandal were torture for Draco. He hardly got to spend any time with Harry outside of class and it was a bit lonely. Draco had developed a routine where he spent most of his time in the library. Their room was either too quiet or full of people from the ministry who gave him looks of hatred when Harry wasn't looking. They had both agreed not to let anyone know about the pregnancy as a precaution. Draco made sure to put up glamours when the ministry officials were around or outside of their rooms. At the moment he was sitting at a table by the window reading a book for research for an essay hat wasn't due for another 3 weeks.
"That book has got to be complicated. You've been reading the same page for 20 minutes. I've never known a book that could stump you." Draco didn't bother looking up; he knew it was Zabini. He had been coming to bother Draco a lot recently. He pretended he hadn't heard him, hoping he'd get the hint and leave Draco alone. The sound of a chair scraping against the ground crushed his hopes as Zabini yet again insisted on talking to him.
"You've been alone a lot recently. Potter not giving you any more attention?" Again Draco refused to answer the Italian. He still didn't trust him. He turned the page in his book.
"Draco. Are you doing alright?" That caught Draco off-guard. Stunned and a little wary, Draco finally looked up to look at Zabini.
"Why do you care Zabini?"
"Because we were once real good friends. It kills me that all that is gone because of Umbridge."
"Why care now? I haven't heard from you since you came to me right after the Umbridge scandal."
"I wanted to give you some space. I knew you wouldn't believe me right away. I'm just worried about you. You're not exactly in the best situation." Draco frowned but did not go for the bait.
"Draco come on and wake up! Why are you being so stupid? You can't possibly be in love with Potter. You know it won't work. At leats not long term, Don't you think it's strange he came to you? Hasn't it crossed your mind that he may have a hidden agenda when it comes to you, one he purposely didn't tell you?"
"Zabini keep out of my business. Don't be jealous that we love each other. Nothing you say will change my mind. I trust Harry far more than I'll ever trust you." Draco growled and moved to gather his things to leave but Zabini stood up in a flash.
"I knew it wouldn't be easy getting you to trust me again but at least think about the possibility. Potter was just as involved with having to obey this law as any of us. He's famous and so many people would go after him for his riches and fame. Did he pick someone close to him? No. He picked a former death eater traitor. Someone the wizarding world wouldn't care about if Potter left, hell they'd probably rejoice. You've seen what they've written in the Prophet. You don't want to be a stepping-stone for him until he meets his next Potter spouse. One everyone would approve of." Zabini gave him a pointed look. Just as Draco opened his mouth to retort, he continued.
"Or since everyone knows he wants a family, what if he just wanted to knock you up to have children without the difficulty of dealing with gold diggers. Then eventually find a suitable parent who is actually considered a good parent. There are plenty of eligible bachelors within the ministry right now. You know for a fact that the odds would be against you; if you ever had any children together. Potter could have full parental rights and no one would bat at eye because of your history as a death eater. You would never see them again if he willed it. He's the Golden Boy. He may be noble and all that crap, but he's still human. The point I'm making is that you're someone that can easily be replaced according to the world's perspective. I just don't want you to get hurt."
With that he walked away. Draco sat their stunned and angry. His arms had gone down to rub his rounded belly protectively. A tear had slid his cheek unbeknownst to him. His thoughts led him back to Gideon. Gideon was always over now and he was Harry's main contact with the ministry much to his annoyance. Was there any truth in Zabini's nonsense?
…
Harry downed the rest of his drink. Gideon had persuaded him and a few other fmor the ministry to a night out of drinks. Apparently he wanted Harry to know that he was a man of his word when he promised to buy him drinks. Harry had agreed to just one and wanted to head back after.
"You sure finished that in a hurry. All this work at the ministry must be getting to you." Gideon said coming up next to him. "I'll get you another one."
"No Gideon really. Thank you but I should head back." Harry missed the glint in Gideon's eye.
"Come now Harry. The fun has just begun. It's still early." Gideon said why signaling for more drinks to the bar tender. Harry gave a sigh and laughed.
"Fine one more and that's all."
The evening progressed and many drinks later found Harry pretty drunk. He excused himself from the group to head to the restroom. On his way out he bumped into someone and nearly fell. Saving himself he grabbed onto said person.
"So sorry…oh Gideon its you, the loo is open." Gideon didn't reply or show any signs of moving.
"You know Harry, you should let loose more often."
"What do you mean?" Harry asked confused. He'd never been old that.
"When you're this relaxed, your eyes shine more. Makes you look even more handsome." Harry frowned slightly.
"Uh thank you. We should head back before we're missed."
Gideon moved out of the way for Harry to pass but lost his foot. Harry reach out to catch him making his fall towards the wall less painful. Gideon looked up at him and smiled.
"Such a waste…" Before Harry could inquire Gideon had reached up and kissed him. He was too shocked and not to mention drunk to process. When he finally could he gently pushed Gideon back.
"I think you've drunk too much Gideon."
"Not at all. I've been wanting to do that for ages." Harry stepped back surprised.
"Gideon you know very well I'm married. Very happily I might add."
"You could do so much better. You deserve so much more Harry. He doesn't deserve you. He'll end up hurting you. "
"That's too bad." With that Harry walked away but he didn't get to far before the room started turning. He groaned. He was the one who drank too much.
"I'll take you back Harry." Gideon reached out to him. Harry pulled back.
"It's alright. I can manage on my own."
"Damn it Harry. Let me help you. I won't try anything more tonight." Harry hesitated but gave in, as he actually did need some help getting back. He had no idea how he was going to tell Draco.
…
Draco had gotten up to walk around the castle in order to try and clear his head from his earlier conversation with Zabini. But the outside air did nothing to help clear away his doubts and thoughts. By the time Draco could rouse himself from his musings it had gotten very late. He headed back to his room and upon entering he found Gideon pulling a blanket over a passed out Harry on the couch. This is not what he needed right now. He walked over to the couch and fixed Gideon with a pointed look.
"He got a bit too drunk and was passing out. I volunteered to bring him back." Gideon ignored his look and proceeded in taking off Harry's glasses and setting them on the table by the couch. Draco cleared his throat.
"Well what brings you to our home?" Draco sneered at him; his Malfoy mask on full force despite how he was feeling inside.
"Harry drank too much and was passing out. I volunteered to bring him home." Draco scoffed.
"Funny. I thought you were all hard at work cleaning up the mess you found yourselves in. The mess you needed Harry to help you with. How does my husband end up completely smashed on our couch?" Draco said while looking at his cuticles looking up to give Gideon an accusing look. Gideon gave Draco a careless shrug.
"I convinced him to go. I promised to take him out for drinks. We all finished up early anyway. No harm no foul. We decided to relax at a pub. He had a blast. Haven't seen him ever have that much fun. It doesn't seem like he had much waiting for him to come home to. Glad we didn't spoil his fun. Are you always out so late while Harry's at work? One might think there's problems at home." His fox-like smirk annoying the hell out of Draco.
"Our home life is none of your concern." Gideon grabbed a picture frame off of the fireplace as he wondered around the common room; all the while he continued to smirk at Draco.
"Perhaps…for now. Going off of how different Harry seemed…well who knows what the future has in store. Surely not much for death eater scum like you." Draco gave him the best glare he could muster.
"Leave now…I'll take care of MY husband." Gideon gave a short chuckle before he floo'd out. Shoulders slumping a little as the tension left his shoulders, Draco gave out a sigh and looked at Harry. He started at him for a good while before finally making a decision on whether to move him or not. He went and grabbed a glass of water and set it next his glasses. He figured Harry would need it when he woke up. He then walked up to their rooms making sure the door was locked. He was angry with Harry and hoped he'd have a bad hangover tomorrow when he woke up.
…
The morning light shined on Harry's face and he groaned. He winced as a migraine came on full force. Stretching his arm out for his glasses, he frowned when the dresser wasn't where it had always been. As he became more aware of his surroundings he realized he wasn't in his bedroom. Finally finding his glasses he saw he was in the common room. How had he ended up so drunk? He was only supposed to go for an hour and then come back. He had to think hard to remember. Gideon kept buying him drinks. Ah! That's how. He reached for the glass of water and downed it all. He smiled as it filled itself back up. He'd have to thank Draco. He got up and walked up to their room but frowned when the door wouldn't budge. He moved to wave his hand over the lock but hesitated on going in. Draco never locked the door. That must mean he was angry with him. He leaned his head against the door and sighed. Dreading the conversation that was sure to come, he steeled himself for it, head still on the door.
Suddenly the door opened and he fell forward. He groaned as his migraine doubled once he hit the ground. He slowly lifted his head to see Draco looking down at him. His mercury eyes were molten with silent fury. Harry got up facing Draco wanting nothing more than to take him in his arms. He was at a loss for words and finally settled on an 'I'm sorry'. Draco huffed but his shoulders sagged in resignation. That is when Harry noticed that something was off with Draco. He frowned and reached out to run his hand across the side of his husband's face.
"What's wrong? Are you not feeling well?"
"I'm fine." Harry's frown deepened.
"There's something else going on with you." Draco looked away.
"It's nothing."
"Draco…"
The blonde said nothing and then, "Gideon brought you home last night."
Harry looked confused as he heard Gideon's name the kiss from last night came to mind. His eyes widened at the memory.
"Shit." Draco frowned at his reaction but before he could question him Harry spoke.
"I don't remember how I ended up so drunk. Gideon wouldn't stop buying us drinks. I really am sorry Draco. I had more than I thought I could handle. I will make sure to let you know if we go out somehow. But there's something I should t—" Harry watched as Draco's eyes welled up with tears. He went over and sat on their bed. Harry panicked. Did Gideon tell Draco what happened before he could?
"Love what is wrong?!" He knelt in front of his husband and reached up to wipe the tears running down his face.
"Bloody hormones!" Draco murmured angerly.
"Talk to me love." Harry begged, dread building in his gut. He was sure it wasn't just his hormones. This was Draco we were talking about. He remained silent for a while.
"Harry I've been really lonely." Harry nodded for Draco to continue. "I understand you have a lot of responsibilities but I've hardly seen you recently and Blaise keeps trying to get into my head about us—"
"Zabini?!" Anger welled up within Harry.
"He hasn't done anything. Just brought some things up that I know deep down aren't true but with you being gone all the time, it just made me feel insecure about us. I hate being insecure and then with the Gideon thing…" Harry was silent as he processed everything.
"I'm really sorry Draco. I haven't been a very good husband recently." Harry sighed and sat back on his legs. "What about Gideon?" Harry asked. Again Draco was silent for a few moments. "Please Draco…"
"He likes you." It was Harry's turn to stay silent. He bit his lip. "He does and he's made it apparent to me that he and probably the rest of the world don't like that I'm your husband. Even Blaise mentioned how you could leave me and no one would care. And that you could take the twins from me and I'd never see t-them…" Draco was sobbing now.
Harry got up on the bed and held Draco to him. When he had calmed down a bit, he kissed the top of his head and lifted his head by the chin to look at him.
"Draco. I love you. You are not going anywhere. I want you by my side forever. I don't give a rat's ass about the world. I fell in love with you and have no plans on letting you go. I'm so sorry to have hurt you and let you feel this way." Draco had tears streaming down his face. He wiped them away.
"I'll put Gideon straight the next time I see him." Harry promised. He leaned in to kiss Draco when he had a flashback to last night and cursed. He turned his head to the side and stared at the floor.
"Harry ?" He shook his head and looked at Draco solemnly
"Draco there is something I need to tell you. I tried to tell you earlier. It's hard for me to say. Draco's face became guarded.
"If there is one of us who deserves better than the other, it's you." Harry sighed.
"Harry…what do you mean?" Draco said keeping his voice as steady as he could. Harry took a moment and finally looked at Draco. His eyes were red with the tears he was holding back. He knew this would hurt Draco and he hated himself for it.
"Last night at the pub. I was drunk and coming out of the loo. Gideon well he kissed me. I pushed him away. I had no idea he had those kind of feelings for me. I'm sorry Draco. I love you." Harry admitted guiltily.
Draco was deadly silent. A mixture of emotions filtered across his face. "HE kissed you. YOU pushed him away without responding?" Harry nodded.
"I've never seen him as more than a friend. I promise Draco." He slowly reached for Draco's hand. He didn't pull away.
"Harry, you didn't want to kiss him?"
"No of course not."
"You sure you don't have any desire to be with Gideon?"
"No Draco. You are the only one I have any desire to be with."
"I never want to see him in my home again." Harry nodded in agreement.
"I will speak to the ministry officials. They should be able to handle the rest without me."
"Good." Harry looked at Draco with worry.
"You seem to be taking all this fairly well..."
There was silence and then, "If I ever see Gideon again he'll wish he never messed with me. and my family" Draco said with deadly calm.
"You know, when I'm not at the receiving end of your threats, you are quite scary." Draco glared down at him.
"Don't think you're off the hook yet Potter." Harry gulped.
"You know I only have eyes for you. Please don't think I wanted it to happen." He pleaded. He watched as Draco's glare softened.
"You do love me? And want to have a family with me and to raise our children together?"
"Of course I do. Just wait until I see Zabini again." Harry said angrily. He reached up and pulled Draco onto the bed. He leaned in and kissed him.
"If I could have my way with you right now, I would." Harry growled. He enjoyed the blush that colored Draco's cheeks. He rubbed his pelvis against Draco to emphasize how he was feeling.
"Does that feel like I want anyone else?" Draco shook his head and pulled him into a kiss. Draco pulled back and looked at Harry, vulnerability written all over his face.
"I love you Harry"
The next day Harry went to the ministry to explain his resignation. When Gideon confronted him, he glared at him.
"I love Draco and if you ever insult him again not only will you have to face his wrath but mine as well. Final warning Gideon."
…
Graduation came in a flash. Draco groaned as he looked at himself in the mirror. His 7 ½-month belly was protruding a good amount.
"I'm so fat." He complained. Arms snaked around form behind.
"You're beautiful love. Remember you're carrying twins."
"They don't let me forget. They're either kicking all night or constantly sitting on my bladder." Draco chuckled fondly at his stomach.
"We'd better go or we'll be late." Harry reminded Draco. He quickly finished getting ready and they were off to the ceremony. When it was over, everyone gathered on the quidditch pitch. A buffet was laid out with delicious meals and treats; a fine last Hogwarts meal. Draco ended up walking towards the Slytherin side of the pitch. He gazed at the stands sadly.
"It's surreal that we won't be coming back next year isn't it?" Draco gave off an annoyed sound.
"What do you want Zabini?"
"You still refuse to trust me?" Draco turned to glare at him.
"What reason would I have to ever trust you again?" Zabini gave him an annoyed look.
"That's it I'm done trying to play nice to get you to trust me. You don't belong with Potter."
"Go away Zabini and find someone else to annoying." Draco moved to walk away but his wrist was grabbed rather forcefully.
"Zabini let go!"
"I gave you every chance to come back to me Dragon." Draco glared.
"I knew it!" Zabini laugh cruelly.
"It wasn't enough that I turned Umbridge in to get you to think I was under a spell. You've been spending too much time around Potter. His stubbornness is rubbing off on you."
Draco yanked his arm away. Zabini raised his wand and muttered a spell. Draco braced himself but when he felt nothing, he looked up. A shield had appeared, encircling his entire body. Zabini frowned.
"How?" Then realization dawned on his face. "You went and got yourself knocked up by Potter didn't you, you slut." Draco glared but before he could say anything, Zabini was knocked into the pitch wall and onto the floor. Draco looked around and found Harry fuming with his right hand in the air.
"I warned you Zabini. Keep away from us." Harry said with a dangerous glint in his eye. Draco watched as he waved his hand and Zabini was tied up. Harry turned to face him.
"Are you alright love?"
"Yes." Draco beamed. "Our twins helped out. They put up a shield right before you got here." Harry laughed.
…
Bliase Zabini was tried and sent to Azkaban for his crimes. He would live out his days in a cell right next to Umbridge. Harry never spoke to Gideon again. Although, thanks to Harry's short lived help at the ministry, they were able to shape up a decent amount.
A month and a half later Draco and Harry welcomed two beautiful children into the world. A silver-eyed boy who looked just like Draco named Scorpius and a dark haired girl with silver eyes named Lily. Scorpius was born a full 2 minutes before Lily.
Harry never went back to work for the ministry. Instead he took on the position of DADA professor at Hogwarts after having a few years off to enjoy his life with his family. Having had such bad experiences with the ministry Draco switch his goals and became a potions master specializing in healing potions at St. Mungos. He and Dara became close after working together.
Harry was right when he said Draco was fertile because a year and a half after the twins were born they welcomed another beautiful boy with blonde hair and green eyes named Orion. The happy family of five was able to stay out of the papers after a threat from the savior of the wizarding world sent a very well worded howler, with the help of his clever husband.
The End
